Best

We had heard about 717 South from the hotel where we were staying at. The concierge highly recommended this restaurant--and we are so happy he did. This was one of the best meals ...

Worst

For the price the food and service was just not that good. We have never waited so long for our entree and the marinara with the Calamari was like tomato soup. I got a pasta dish...

They serve Hereford beef!! Simply 2/15/2012

They serve Hereford beef!! Simply amazing :)...the bread and marinara sauce is also very good more

For the price, there are much better places to go! 1/26/2009

For the price the food and service was just not that good. We have never waited so long for our entree and the marinara with the Calamari was like tomato soup. I got a pasta dish and brought home leftovers. I added my own sauce to it to give it some flavor! I personally think that for Italian food, Carraba's beats this place hands down. This restaurant goes all out to be an upscale, trendy place, but the food just isn't that good. Maybe we were there on an off night, but I was unimpressed. Pros: nice atmosphere, location Cons: high prices for average food more

SOHO BEST RESTAURANT !!! 4/26/2008

We had heard about 717 South from the hotel where we were staying at. The concierge highly recommended this restaurant--and we are so happy he did. This was one of the best meals we have had in 2008 and what a wonderful ambiance. Set within art deco paitings, cozy booths, and private rooms, the atmospher was first class, the service was pleasant and friendly and the food was amazing. I ordered the Delmonico Streak, warm spinach salad, and shrimp coctail for an app. My guests had ordered the Miso and Sake flavored Catch of the day, which was grouper. Everything from the start to the finish was perfect.\r We will definitely be back, time and time again, The bar was filled with the ""in-crowd"" , trendy yet sophisticated. The long oak bar served us well while we waiting for our table. A must go to restaurant in South Tampa. Pros: chef of the year prepared food Cons: we live too far to come every weekend more

Good food... poor service 2/11/2008

Our night started with a reservation for 4 people on 2/9/08. 2 of us arrived on time and were seated promptly. We waited for our friends for 15mins and then finally found them at the bar. These are friends that are NEVER late. They were told that there was no reservation under the given name and were rudely told by the host that maybe they had the incorrect reservation. They insisted that they were at the correct place and the host insisted that there was no exixting reservation. After we finally found them, we procedeed to enjoy a great meal... for the Tampa area. Our waiter, Buzz, was great and informative on the food and wine selection. We will definately request him the next time... if there is a next time.\r \r About the end of our meal the host who had seated us comes over to our the table. He starts yelling at us that after he seated the initial 2 people in our party there was no way for him to remember that 2 more people were coming under the same reservation. He was extremely rude and really ruined a good meal for us. He was not at all apologetic for his mistake. If he had not come to the table and yelled at us, a good experience would have been had and I would have rated this a 4 star place. The last I checked, remembering who you have seated and the remaining people in their party is the primary responsibility of a host / hostess.\r \r A good dining experience not only involves the food, drink and ambiance, but it also involves the attitude and politeness of the restaurant staff. more

Best of both worlds 10/21/2007

Itneresting spin on Pacific Rim and Italian food, they have them both. Fun upbeat atmosphere. There is a private room for parties and a nice open bar area if you have to wait at all. Food was delicous and we tried a little bit from both worlds. Portions are large, appetizers could easily be a meal. Pros: Great for a Party Cons: A little pricey, especially the wine more

TOP 10 9/3/2007

717 South brings big city dining with a worldly menu--spanning the world. Specializing in ITALIAN and PACFIC RIM, the chef has created 2 distinct and seperate menu's under one roof. \r \r A true compliment to Tampa Bay dining. Having spent most of my life in NY and Chicago, experiencing big city cuisine, I believe 717 South is justified in all of its praises and awards, from The Top 20 best new restaurant, Chef of the Year, Most Romantic, and so on... The ambiance, set within 1920's art deco, and decor was impressive with Tamara De La Pica paintings hung at every intimate booth. \r On this particular evening, my date and I , ordered the famous Miso and Sake cured Grouper. Fresh, captive and exciting...We stared with the Warm Spinach Salad, which was served in a warm cheese edible bowl, the Tuna app, and the crab wonton's. The app's were amazing and delivered promptly. Our server, had more than 25 years experience, and when it came time to order from the 300 bottle wine list, he was more than helpful. \r \r Desserts were award winning!! all home made. \r \r I would truly recommend this to anyone. While we were there, the bar seemed very busy and the restaurant was full. \r \r "" A perfect 10 Dining experience. "" Pros: great food, great location, attentive service, private room, parking more

TOP 10 Restaurant 3/8/2007

This was the first time I visited Tampa and after read ing all about 717South online at the Best10 and other reviews. I admit, 717 South was everything I could have hoped for. Adventurous cuisine, romantic and energetic ambiance and first class service was well worth the trip. The menu has it all, steaks, pasta, chicken, salads, and numerous specials...i.e. Miso and Sake Cured Catch of the day. This is a MUST oder dish. Unlike any other fish prepared fresh, and interesting. 717 South's menu spans from authentic Italian old school dishes to fresh and excitied Pacific Rim, the miso and sake, crab wontons, \r \r The bar was packed with the In crowd, especially noticeable were the attractive set, on this particular Thursday night. All in all, a fantastic dinner, great time and from someone who travels all over, this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in years...Daryl Murphy Pros: Make a reservation, located in South Tampa, plenty of parking more
