A Must Do in Ballard! 6/7/2010

I really enjoy this Senor Moose! The food is always great, and they have some pretty unique recipes. The only drawback I can think of is the ventilation. At times the heat from the kitchen can be a bit much. I love the smell of peppers cooking, but I see how some people might have a hard time with that. Once you get beyond those two small quibbles, this place is great! The staff is always friendly and prompt. The menu is full of hand picked specialty dishes from all over Mexico. So if some in your group don't like spice, there is still something for everyone to enjoy! Pros: Great Food & Staff Cons: Can Get a Little Stuffy more

NOT a Cheap Eats Restaurant 3/17/2010

I was looking for a cheap, everyday restaurant in the Ballard area, and having lived in Texas and spent some time in Mexico, I was excited to see Senor Moose Cafe on the Cheap Eats list with 4.5 stars. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the menu and found that the salsa chips, which come free in any Mexican/Texmex restaurant in Texas, cost $3.50. I must admit that the chips came with a variety of sauces instead of the standard salsa. For the main course I ordered the MOLE COLORDITO DE TUTUTEPEC Oaxaca for 15.95. It may have been me, but the meat or the sauce had a funky taste and I ended up only eating a couple of pieces, which didn't seem to bother the staff at all. I am a typical Canadian, which means I did not complain to the staff, but my previous experience is that a decent restaurant wants to know why you did not touch their main course. In the end, with two glasses of red table wine at $7 a glass (no selection, it probably comes in 5 gallon containers), the bill came to $35.00! I will grant that it may have just been bad luck with the main dish, and I may have loved something else on the menu, but with main dishes averaging $15.00 and $3.50 salsa chips, there is no way this restaurant belongs on the Cheap Eats list. I can name a number of places (e.g. Ristorante Machiavelli a $$ restaurant) where I can get a meal (including the bread equivalent of salsa chips), a main course and two glasses of (non-house) wine for less, including tip. Pros: Decent size portions Cons: Not Cheap, Funky meat dish more

The Best Accidental Find I Have Ever Made 5/23/2009

My girlfriend and I were getting tired of waiting 45 minuted to get in to the Dish so we thought we would give the Moose a try and I am not sure if we have been back to the Dish since. Not to disparage the Dish but Senor Moose has since become an addiction. \r \r They not only offer a unique breakfast with the Mexican menu (personal favorites are the machacca and the chorizo with cactus), but the traditional \r American breakfast is outstanding. They serve the best corned beef hash I believe that I will ever taste. I can't even order it anywhere else. \r \r As if that weren't enough, they also serve the best refill coffee I've ever found. Pros: Best breakfast I have ever had. Cons: I let too many people know about it. more

Tasty, well prepared Mexican food if you don't mind a line 12/9/2008

It's tasty, they are good with spices, and it's prepared fast. No frills. \r The enchiladas are delicious. Food is very heavy and you should come hungry. \r \r Prices are average--dinner around $25/person overall w/ drinks. Slightly on the expensive side for mexican, especially given decor (although, I kinda like it). On the other hand, where the hell else arey ou going to find Mexican food worth a damn in Seattle? Pros: Great food, nice vibe. Cons: Line @ door, uninhabitably hot in the summer, slightly pricey for mexican. more

Authentic Mexican Food at SENOR MOOSE! 11/26/2008

Their guacamole, first off, IS TO DIE FOR! They fry and salt their own chips to order so it's fresh and delicious. I just had the enchilada suiza for lunch at it was fantastic! It had a hint of lime in the creamy green salsa that gave it a little zip. The prices are reasonable, the food is fresh, I will never eat at Azteca again!! Pros: Delicious Authentic Mexican, Fresh and Tasty Cons: No wonder there's always a line at dinner time! more

Delicious non-standard Mexican fare! 10/7/2008

Friends recommended this place to us and we've gone back several times. Sometimes it can be hard to get in to, but worth the wait. The hubs had a shrimp dish that he loved and I always have the carne asada. Honestly, I could just get the queso fundido and eat it with the chips and salsa sampler and I'd be completely stuffed! They have large portions that you can almost share with a friend and munch on chips and salsa. Go at the beginning of the dinner hour if you can and you'll be seated right away. Also good for those eating alone because they have a sit down diner-type bar area you can perch on and eat. Pros: Excellent food, great service Cons: small dining area and parking can be difficult in Ballard. more

Authentic Mexican in Ballard 8/17/2008

Senor Moose Cafe was an unexpected find - it doesn't look that promising from the outside, but once seated, everything was fantastic. Margaritas were just right and the food was authentic Mexican, probably some of the best I have had. Service was attentive and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely be back! Pros: food, service Cons: crowded, noisy more

very good 7/30/2002

Good old fashion Ma and Pa restaurant, casual, modest prices, delicious food, unpretentious and excellent service and ""cheers like atmosphere"", I ate there many times and will go again soon. Pros: low priced, friendly atmosphere, good food Cons: street parking, needs updating, wall/deco change more
