It's difficult to distill what I love most about my quarterly sojourns to Scruples. I live inside the loop but make the trek even though there are dress shops galore nearby. But a trip to Scruples is not mere ""shopping"" — it's an event. Owner Betty Griffin, her daughters Linda and Betty Ann, and the lovely gals that they employ are so hospitable and charismatic, it's more like a Girls Night Out. Except I come home with lots of treats. Like Joseph Ribkoff dresses that make me taller, smarter and more elegant when I put them on. And unique accessories like grommetted denim wedge heels and studded rocker clutches that add bling and attitude to my staples at home. It may sound expensive, but Linda runs specials regularly and the merch is value-priced. Scruples features fashion that is well made, fits great and is classic while on trend. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I can tell Linda my budget for the day and she won't let me spend a penny more. Even if I whine. And I whine a lot. Moreover she is not shy about telling me if something isn't right on me. Also, she's always right. There are a gazillion places to shop close to me, but my visits to Scruples are more than just shopping. It's sartorial food for the soul and it makes me and my closet happy. See y'all soon — and I still want the black shift with the leather bands!
