Schoolkids Records is my favorite record store in Raleigh. They carry a wide variety of music (rock, hip-hop/rap/r&b, jazz, country, among other genres), they have a much wider selection of different artists than a more mainstream/corporate retailer, and if they don’t have a particular title in stock, they’ll order it and get it to you quickly. Schoolkids is also a great place to pick up local and regional releases. The staff is friendly and knows about music (they seems to know release dates like their own birthdays), and when you walk into the front door, there’s almost always a staff pick playing over the speakers. They also sell new and used vinyl, used CDs, and new and used DVDs. The prices are great, and they also sell tickets to some local shows (usually select Cat’s Cradle and Kings shows).
