Warm & friendly with great food 1/3/2010

Have been there a couple of time and it has become one of our favorite restaurants on the Upper West Side. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the service excellent. The food is great. And the softly playing French music a great background for a very pleasant dining experience. Pros: Food, service, music more

wasting time ang money 7/28/2009

Savann restaurant was recommended to me from one of my colleagues. I went there with my boyfriend about a week ago, and that was a real disaster. First of all there was no busboy or waiter who understands English to help us. Our questions about the food didn?t replied. Later on I figured out, the chef was playing sort of like a chess game with his employees when we got the place. After we ordered he went inside to cook, after an hour(!), after our dishes being served, he sat down and kept playing the game. We really felt isolated at the place, and didn?t like the food at all. Wasting time and money? Pros: nothing Cons: service, food more

Nice 7/30/2007

This is a very nice little restaurant that anyone could become regular. Good food, comfortable setting. Pros: relaxed, food. Cons: small more

NO with capital Letters. 7/30/2007

I read some of the reviews and wanted to try this place. Not good at all. No charm, mediocre food, and service with attitude. Do not buy the phony reviews and go there.. you will be sorry. more

Great late night happy hour on weekends 7/5/2007

I was recommended this place for the food but, I found that their two for one happy hour help me save my funds for the whole weekend last weekend. I enjoyed myself so much I actually took my date there on tuesday night. He was happy he didn't have to spend an arm and a leg and I was happy I didn't have to leave my neighborhood for something cool.. : ) Pros: Sidewalk cafe, happy hours Cons: not open til 4am more

GET THE CHICKEN AND 2 FOR 1 DRINKS!! 7/3/2007

I come to this place quite often. At least twice a week. It's definitely one of my favorite places in the city, and probably my favorite place on the Upper West Side.. So far for dinner I've had the trout, pasta, crabcakes, and the filet mingon which were all fantastic but, I just had the chicken and it blew me away!! I take food VERY seriously and I am absolutely amazed! Another reason I love this place so much, they have 2 for 1 extended happy hours. Which is AWESOME to have around in this neighborhood.. especially considering most places with happy hours here have an overwhelming abundance of frat boys, soriety chicks and incredibly bad loud music... It took me a while to find Savann but, I am glad I discovered it. FINALLY, a place I can grab a decent glass of wine!! Along with some great food, good atmosphere and DECENT music.. I definitely recommend this place!!! Pros: 2 for 1 Extended Happy Hours & Great Food.. OH! They have a sidewalk cafe too!! Cons: Have yet to find one.. I LOVE this place.. more

A great Neighborhood Spot with great food... 7/2/2007

I made reservations here to eat dinner with my friends. More ended up coming then planned, and the staff was super accommodating at making our table seat more people. The service was impeccable, they were very attentive and the food was excellent. The drinks were great. They have happy hour every weekends late night, which made for more fun between friends. They did an outstanding job. (not to mention great atmosphere, friendly service and the cute manager!) We will be definitely coming here again! more

worst food in manhattan! 6/2/2007

I am local and had invited friends to eat here... service was inefficient, poorly managed... food didn't come for almost an hour.. just when we were thinking of leaving they started to serve us and some of the dishes were cold! more

Good food...so-so service 2/5/2006

Some travel books bill this as a French restaurant...wouldn't call it French, but the food is excellent. Unfortunately we had to rush through our meal to make it a show. The service left a little to be desired. Not sure if it was just a language barrier or if our server was really that bad. Overall we would both recommend. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Service more

Gift Certificate rejection 3/6/2005

Savann rejected a gift certificate I had to the restaurant because they ""no longer take those anymore."" BUT they took my money for it. Very not classy and very snotty in its rejection. I will not try to go here again. Cons: Service more

Don't Come Too Hungry 11/8/2004

The Sunday brunch menu has your typical Upper West Side selections. I ordered the Steak and Eggs and although the steak was extremely tasty it was quite skimpy. The eggs were also scrambled perfectly but they were sparse. The make the plate seem full by adding a slice of watermelon and some lettuce. Fill up on the bread and muffins. Service is typical of a French type restaurant, so-so. Pros: delcious food, outside seating Cons: , unfriendly more

SIMPLY AWFUL 2/7/2004

What a let down, since this place is rated well here and in Zagat. It was the worst service ever- rude, surly and inattentive waiter- and the worst food. Everything was over-cooked and dry. Awful- go elsewhere Cons: , Horrible food more

Delightful 7/8/2003

We had a lovely dinner at Savann last night. The spinach salad was delicious, unusual, and just the right size, as were the crab cakes. My friends were all very pleased with their dinners, and we had a nice, reasonably priced bottle of wine. The tarte tatin for dessert was fabulous. All in all, a truly delightful place with very reasonable prices. Pros: Delicious food, Attentive Service, Nice space Cons: Hard to park nearby more

Worth a detour 3/23/2003

If this gem were a block east, on Columbus Ave., I have no doubt it would be packed all day every day. Since it isn't, my wife and I had no trouble getting a table at an early dinner, and we're so glad we did: the fried clam appetizer was beautiful (believe me!) and scrumptious, and my entre (a ""purse"" of seafood) was almost too beautiful to eat -- but it was wonderful, as was my wife's dish. We had to try dessert, and the Tarte Tatin with cinnamon ice cream and honey was perfect. Attentive, friendly, service, too. Complimentary port didn't hurt at all. We'll be back. Pros: Food presentation, Food preparation, Relaxed atmosphere more

Exceptional 3/2/2003

If you're seeking a restaurant where you will enjoy a relaxing afternoon or evening with very tasty food and remarkably attentive but unobtrusive service, you won't find a nicer place than Savann. We've recently had brunch and dinner there, both delicious; accompanied by good, reasonably priced wine. Recently, I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant - it was a brunch for 60 people, all of whom said the food was exceptional. The owner is a a charming gentleman who takes a personal interest in his customers and makes everyone feel at home. All in all, a splendid venue in a neigborhood that is overloaded with noisy, expensive restaurants that seldom deliver real value. Pros: Excellent service, Delicious food, Charming atmosphere more

REALLY, REALLY GREAT food. Excellent meal, beautiful presentaion, prices are totally reasonable. A way-better than average neighborhood joint. When I visited they offered a $17.95 prix-fixe menu that looked great. I ordered lobster, scallops and shrimp in a filo purse that was awesome. My salmon gravlox and caviar app was great too. Pros: Excellent food, Reasonable prices more
