I mean Oldest RESTAURANT in LA County! But the food may as well be as antiquated as the cafe. My husband and I are major history buffs, so we couldn't wait to chceck out "THE OLDEST OPERATING RESTAURANT IN LA COUNTY". Uh...we were a bit disappointed. I had hoped to see antiques, history, ambiance. What we got was more like the average truck stop along the old Route 66 in Oklahoma. Not without it's trucker charm- but still, hardly what I'd call a wonderful dining experience.
The decor seemed dated more to the mid to late 60's than the 1890's and the food was greasy, heavy and without much taste. Basically, truck stop food. There is a seedy bar attached to the tiny cafe and the place seemed overrun by truckers and bikers- not history buffs, lol. The service was fantastic and I am glad we went- but I have to say, I don't understand the esteem this place holds with the SCV locals. It seemed just "yucky" to me...and not in an exceptionally old way- just in an unkempt, unclean and greasy food way.
Try it anyhow, just so you can see for yourself!
