How can you beat 47 years family owned and family recipes? A NYC Staple...delicious. And thankful they deliver 24/7!! Incredible food, incredible service.

WAAAAYYYY over priced! Tuna salad was too soft, and the bread was stale. They have 100 sandwhiches on their menu and they serve stale bread? I paid $11.50 for a basic tuna salad s...

Rude manager lost a $300/month customer! 2/19/2011

I've been eating at Sarge's for many years and have always loved the food...the cheese blintzes are amazing, excellent matzoh brie, authentic stuffed cabbage...some of the best deli food in the city. Regardless, after a recent experience with Lisa the manager I will not be returning. Her behavior was not only unprofessional, but bordering on libelous; I've never encountered a manager of any business so completely inept and abrasive. more

Yummy in the TUMMY!! 1/11/2011

This place helps me out all the time. From the morning time to when I'm walking home after drinking a lot. This place has the best food ever! The service is fast and friendly and I strongly would recommend this place if you want to try fresh, yummy food..Check this place out. more

Anthony Bourdain should visit this place! 11/3/2010

ThIs is by FAR THE BEST DELI FOR PASTRAMI IN NYC. I am an avid fan of anthony bourdain's show no reservations, watch it all the time, i am also a lover of killer pastrami, well he was on a typical adventure eating his favorite bone marrow. To thank this guy for the best marrow he has eaten, he told him that when he got back to NYC he was going to send him a pastrami sandwich (also his favorite nyc sandwich) from the 2nd ave deli. Wow that struck a bell, yummy! So i went to give it a try and wow i was totaly disapointed, fatty, greasy, soggy..... Sorry Anthony not the best in NYC. GO TO SARGE'S Mr BOURDAIN and have your palette pleased with the best lean delish pastrami you ever ate! BTW if you are concerned about fat you can request extra lean and they will remove what little fat is there! WOW where can you get that done in a deli! and if you are not a pastrami fan try the sarges favorite delish brisket served over a potato pancake smothered with gravy! and a side of apple sauce, btw it comes with soup as a special for linch for around 10 bucks! Enjoy this incredible deli, might see ya there i go there every time i am on the east side of manhattan! AJ more

Hands down, the best.. 11/1/2010

I eat there at least 4 times a week. I can honestly say that i have enjoyed everything i have ever ordered from them from the turkey to meatloaf to the cornbeef (which is by far the best in the city in my book). Everytime I walk in their the people at the front desk are friendly, its a great atmosphere and great food. Good times overall! more

Plea to Sarge's 7/17/2010

I used to love this place, so it pains me to say that I saw mice running around three feet away from patrons the other night. The waiter was polite enough to offer me a free drink to get me to stay, but the drink had a baby fly floating around in it! Please clean up your act Sarge's, so I can keep on enjoying you. You used to be one of the best places in the neighborhood! Pros: delicious food, an institution Cons: mice, baby flies more

Best Deli in NYC Ever!! 7/18/2009

If you're hungry for some great sandwhiches or deli meat, come to Sarges for it's unbelievale pastrami, and sugar free cheesecakes. So you see, I rate this place 5 stars, because their food reminds you of the good ol' days, the good grandma used to make. Pros: Pastrami, cheescake, and great prices. Cons: Nothing, everything is awesome. more

Best First Rate Deli in NYC 7/8/2009

I LOVE this restaurant. The food recipes originally came from the owners, ""food Grandma used to make"" and if you are looking for the BEST appetizing, smoked fish, pastrami, or burgers, shrimp or just an excellent hot dog - this is by far the BEST deli in NYC. Whether you want a solid breakfast, a power lunch, dinner at 4 AM after the clubs close, Sarges does what it does best since 1964. Same family owned and operated on it's fourth generation. Food is fantastic. Pros: First Rate Deli Delivery and Catering 24/7 more

Sarges Deli had Mold in its Burger buns 7/3/2009

Beware and stay away from this Deli. I ordered a burger and had MOLD in the bread. If you dont want to end up in the hospital stay away at all costs from this place. What chef sends out a burger with bread that is infected with mold. Im not talking about a spot or two but the entire bun... Dirty Establishment, Dirty Kitchen Cons: Dirty Kitchen, Mold in bread more

Best NY Deli experience!! 12/15/2008

Sarge's is the best NY deli I've tried in years! Open 24 hours, a vast menu, and a reuben that you'll never forget. The service is friendly, employees very helpful, and the prices seemed fair to me. Also, they serve breakfast 24 hours! I couldn't believe that I'd have trouble getting breakfast at noon in Manhattan, but it's not as easy as you'd think--but Sarge's has their entire gigantic menu available around the clock. Basically, this is a must-see deli that's a little off the tourist track but very enjoyable with a strong sense of 'neighborhood'. Try it!! Pros: Great food served around the clock, friendly service, good value Cons: Not quite as showy as the touristy delis in the theatre district more

Over-priced, underwhelming deli 8/8/2008

WAAAAYYYY over priced! Tuna salad was too soft, and the bread was stale. They have 100 sandwhiches on their menu and they serve stale bread? I paid $11.50 for a basic tuna salad sandwhich with shredded lettuce and sliced tomato. They make better sandwiches at the deli counter at Kings Supermarkets (NJ gourment market). Never again. more

Great new york deli 8/4/2008

I have lived in the New York area my entire life. So, I eaten in many NY delis. Sarge's brings back to me the delis I ate in when i was a teen in the'60's. The food is fabulous, especially the pastrami. The prices were reasonable, the service good, the decor typical NY deli (that's a good thing). For a great NY deli experience, without the tourist crowds, eat at Sarge's Pros: food, food, pastrami Cons: can seem a bit busy more

A mix of pretty good and quite bad 6/4/2008

I'm reporting on breakfast only. Pros: decent food, reasonable prices Cons: service very spotty---nice waitress, terrible cashier more

Solid and Reliable 24 Hour New York Style Deli 6/2/2008

Sarge's is not outstanding in any one area. It doesn't measure up to Katz's pastrami or Second Avenue's matzoh ball soup for example, but it does most things fairly well. Sarge's is kind of the like the New York jack of all trades of New York Delis. Sarge's is open 24/7 which is a huge asset for those who seek good quality deli styled food at all hours of the day. Sarge's would be a good choice for tourists who find themselves checking into their hotel at odd hours with a big appetite who want to start off their New York trip with a reasonably authentic Manhattan experience (i.e. not a chain restaurant). I went to Sarge's at 1 am and I found the service tolerable. Pros: Open 24/7; the jack of all trades of New York Delis Cons: Doesn't do one thing outstanding more

NOT WORTH IT AT ALL....RIDICULOUSLY TERRIBLE SERVICE 4/13/2008

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE.....they are completely incapable of taking an order from seamless web or over the phone. I am now still waiting almost 3 hours later for my meal. I have called three times and only found out the third time that they didn't have my order. Yet, they had confirmed twice that it was on its way out. Not only has this been ridiculous, but they showed no remorse or compensation. They obviously didn't give a sh*t about their customers because I used to be a loyal Sarge's order. IT'S NOT WORTH THE WAIT OR THE HASSLE AND THEIR SERVICE AND EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE AND INCAPABLE OF DELIVERING A SIMPLE ORDER....THEIR FOOD IS NOT EVEN WORTH A QUARTER OF THE HASSLE. more

Amazing food, amazing prices, amazing staff 4/12/2008

I spent half my New York vacation eating here, the sandwiches were so good. We found it whilst wandering a few blocks from our hotel after a 9 hour flight and were really pleasantly surprised. It was being refurbished when we visited so it was a little untidy and as always, very busy. However the staff were really great, explaining all the menu items as we were obviously out-of-towners. I'd highly recommend the brisket sandwich with gravy...I almost miss it! They do a great rang of desserts aswell and for the atmosphere and service the price is more than reasonable. I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in town. Pros: Ambience, Price, Food Cons: Menu needs explaining! more

Huge Portions but very bland 4/15/2007

I've tried this place three times now. The portions are huge for sure. But i find the food rather bland. I miss the Second Avenue Deli. I ordered in once - it took over 90 minute to get my order. it was ridiculous. Pros: Huge portions Cons: bland, bland, bland more

Great midnight eats 1/17/2007

Got into NYC late and hungry, citysearch found Sarge's a few blocks from my hotel. A little past midnight, but still with a decent number of people. Big menu, a lot to choose from ... so I went for my favorite: pastrami. Flavorful, moist, and stuffed ... little pricey but I've paid more for less. Cole slaw and pickles arrived first and they were great. Wish I was staying longer so I could try more of the menu. One thing I really liked was that this felt like a neighborhood place ... not one of those 'big name' places, but a good place that locals come to. Very comfortable. Pros: 24 hrs, nice neighborhood feel Cons: menu might be too big? more

As good if not better than the ""big name"" delis 7/16/2006

Sarge's is an old school Midtown gem, a survivor from the days when such delis were common in almost every NYC neighborhood. The food is at least as good, if not better, than the ""big name"" delis the tourists flock to in droves, and while it would be nice for Sarge's to get the extra business, the fact that Sarge's is a bit of a secret means you're unlikely to be stuck behind some out of towner asking where Meg Ryan sat or what the difference is between pastrami and corned beef. This is the NY deli experience the way it was meant to be. Pros: Good food, nice people, authentic deli atmosphere Cons: No celebrity connection, for those this matters to more
