amazing 1/7/2012

I really enjoied my experience at San Rocco Restaurant! The staff is really friendly and I felt comfortable with the service they provide me. Most of the staff are italians, including the owner, who I must admit was very welcoming and serviceable (not only because he gave me a glass of prosecco for free, believe me!!!). I found really interesting, the way they work, because I also learned many italian words and terms that night!..The music, atmosphere, and the ambience is unique. The food was great! I love red wine, and their selection is very complete, I recommend the bricco dell'uccellone, it is amazing!!! I do not have words to describe it!!! I just felt like in Italy. Can't wait to come back again with my family, What else can I say? My experience was priceless!!! more

Choose Another Restaurant 1/3/2012

Extremely unimpressed with the entire experience. I joined City Search specifically to educate others who are contemplating dining at this place. I went with some co-workers for lunch on a week day. We got there at 1pm and left after 3pm. We had the prix fixe (3 small courses). We weren't given menus when we first sat down. After finally asking for them (who has to ask for a menu after being seated at a restaurant?) it took another 5 -10 minutes for the waitress to return. We hadn't even received water or bread yet. We ordered, and only one of our meals came out first. My one co worker was fully finished with his meal before myself and my other co worker had received our first course! Our waitress was completely oblivious. I went to the manager to ask about the status of our meals. He only looked at me with a bewildered stare (as if I was crazy for wondering where my main course was after an hour of sitting down). The prix fixe comes with wine. That didn't come until the long -awaited first course was over. We specifically asked for the wine when we said we wanted the prix fixe. So, when we ask where our wine was, of course, we receive another confused look - and this time the question: ""Did you order wine with your meal?"" It wasn't before long that we realized, out of the 4 full tables in the restaurant (us included) we were the only table that either A) didn't speak Italian, B) wasn't wearing suits or C) didn't have an obvious relationship with the manager. It's time for the third course (dessert). Almost 2 hours have passed - and I ask if I can have coffee instead of a fruit bowl for the dessert. I am told ""No- that is not included"". So - aside from poor service, cold food and a bad attitude, the staff's ignorance trumps their will to compensate an agitated guest with a coffee-dessert swap. Now- we need to pay (begrudgingly). Naturally, we have to ask for the check (why would our server put it on our table after every dish of the 3rd course had been cleared?). Instead of dropping off our bill on her way to our section, our server proceeds to take the order of a table of 4 behind us, and makes us wait even longer. I have to get up from the table, once again, to ask someone else for the bill (my second time asking). San Rocco, some words of advice: - lunch customers should be served within an hour- tops - seat your guests with a menu; don't make them ask for it - check on your tables, check on your servers, etc. just because a guest isn't your friend / acquaintance, doesn't mean they can't be. Do the NORMAL things a restaurant staff should do to ensure the food and service are up to par. My company takes many clients out on business lunches and dinners. It's a shame that this off-putting restaurant will not be gaining any further business from us, our clients or friends. Italian cuisine is my favorite. I've dined in many restaurants in New York City and Italy. San Rocco does a complete disservice to the Italian food industry both here and abroad! There are some really positive San Rocco reviews from other CitySearch members; it's a shame that I cannot relate nor believe that any of those remarks are true. more

Terrific Italian dining experience! 12/27/2011

Terrific! Wonderfully impressed with the food & service. Thoughtful menu had a fair variety and ranged from bold to subtle flavors. We also enjoy the contemporary decor & atmosphere. We're now return customers. more

""Nelle botti piccine ci sta il vino buono"" 11/5/2011

Dammi questo! This chic little Italian restaurant is sure to please even the toughest of critics. Had the pleasure of having lunch there the other day. Me and my guest ordered off of the Prixe Fixe menu but were allowed to order half plates of the entree pastas. Who can resist a half plate of pasta with their meal? All of it was wonderfully prepared and super delicious. Their lemon chicken with roasted lemon and potatoes was prepared to perfection. A pallard of white meat chicken with lemon and pepper and roasted carmelized potatoes. The cod was also a pleasant surprise. Tomato sauce with capers and black olives give this fish a puch of flavor. Also had the pasta with ragu sauce and their spaghetti pomodoro. Each had their own distinct flavor and were outstanding. Oh, and to finish it off, we had the Strawberry Parfait with toasted candied pine nuts. The entire experience was accentuated with the beautiful Italian decor. I will be back, no doubt. more

La Dolce Vita on 24th Street 4/9/2011

San Rocco is a fantastic restaurant with fantastic people - all authentic italians mostly from Calabria-- excellent food and wine and a great ""club like"" vibe and modern decor. You feel like you have stepped off the street in Rome or Milan from the minute they personally open to door for you and greets you in Italian. The food is excellent with a very good selection of pastas, meats and fish. It's 25-24-25 ($36) Zagats rating is spot on. I had the fillet mignon and the lamb chops, both of which were extremely tender and flavorful. The sommelier prepared and served our wine and wine glasses in the most professional way I've ever encountered and I've been to all of the top rated NY restaurants. They are preparing for sidewalk seating come the summer which will be an added plus. Suffice it to say, everyone at this restaurant goes out of their way to make sure you are ""molto contento"". I've been back 3 times now and it has fast become my ""go to"" restaurant. more

GO FOR IT!! 11/20/2010

I had friday night dinner in the outside patio.. Amazing feeling, the food and the service are changed. The first time i got into this place i found it horrible, the manager was rude and unprofessional. I believe they changed the stuff, the new manager was very kind, the food amazing, even my dog had a good time!! This place is Dog Friendly, your dog is next to you and he has a treats to play with.. Very good San Rocco!!! more

dont waste your time and money 8/29/2010

Went there last nite and was greatly disappointed. I had ordered the pasta with chicken and broccoli, well it was tasteless and when we told the server she said I know , So if you know then the untalented chef should do something about it! more

Very Authenic Northern Italian food 2/13/2010

Just went to San Rocco for Valentines day dinner. The experience was great, i have been to many cities in Northern Italy including Milan and i must say, the food is very authentic and I feel as if i was transported to Italy. I had the ossu bucco which was out of this world! one of the best i had so far. The wine menu is extensive and very good. Can't wait to try the Milan happy hour with all the appetizers. Pros: Great Ambience, Great food, Great Service more

Great Food, Great Experience 12/7/2009

Ever since SAPA closed in 2008, I've been searching for that ""great overall restaurant"" in the Flatiron area. I love that this place is right around the corner from where I work, I can go there with a client for lunch, happy hour with co-workers, or a date with my beau. I LOVE THIS PLACE. the food is exceptional - and the service is BEYOND extraordinary. It's the new ""SAPA"" ... except better - they provide a buffet of apps for FREE during happy hour ... it's exquisite. Pros: delicious apps, dinner, atmosphere Cons: drinks were so-so more

Great Italian Newcomer! 11/23/2009

I usually go out to NYC restaurants multiple times a week and I really enjoyed San Rocco. Thought the entire dining experience was great. Decor was sleek and contemporary (especially for Italian restaurant standards). The service was excellent. Everyone was the right level of friendly and very attentive. The background music helped make the atmosphere pretty upbeat. The food was also very good. Each person I dined with really enjoyed their meals. I had the Penne with Veal Ragu and Grilled Shrimp entre. Both were great. The presentation for each serving was also pretty impressive. I would recommend San Rocco for most occasions and I hope they are around for a long time. Pros: Excellent service (staff was very likeable) atmosphere, food Cons: N/A more

Amazing staff, especially the manager Susanna! 11/2/2009

As I was walking by one evening, I noticed San Rocco, as I got closer to the door I met the most amazing manager, Susanna. As she spoke enthusiastically about the menu, I got so hungry that I had to try it out. This is my new all time favorite Italian restaurant, Babbo is now OUT THE DOOR! Must try, Orata, stuffed calamari and panna cotta. Pros: Best Manager, great service and fantastic food Cons: It's far from where I live more

Authentic Italian Aperitivio 11/2/2009

I haven't been able to find something like this back in the states. In Italy it is wonderful to go out after work and have aperitivo, which is buffet of finger foods when you order a drink. San Rocco has delicious aperitivo food and drinks! I felt like I was back in Italy! Also, the food on the menu is good as well. I have since stopped back for dinner and it was I had been look for, a good traditional Italian meal! San Rocco is a must!!! Pros: Wonderful atmosphere more

Great place for meeting a friend+food+drinks 11/2/2009

I had dinner in this amazing restaurant San Rocco. I did not know where to go and my friend suggested to try this restaurant. It is new, opened only 2 month ago. Very beautiful design, wonderful staff and food was just delicious! I had grilled jumbo shrimp with citrus fine herb dressing. I haven't try anything better. The best part was dessert- warm chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. It is great place where to meet a friend, even just for a drink because every day they have open buffet if you are having drink. Pros: amazing italian dessert more

Terrific Restaurant 9/11/2009

I also found this restaurant off a BYOB search on Citysearch and i decided to try out the restaurant last night for dinner. The food and the service were impeccable. Everything was honestly just really terrific. And the fact that it is currently BYOB (the manager said that they will get their liquor license soon) makes your check extremely reasonable. And then the coffee...i cant remember what kind of coffee they said it was but all i can say is that they might serve the best cappucino that i have ever had. Pros: Best cappucino on the planet! more

Fantastic 9/3/2009

I found San Rocco under a random BYOB search off this site. There isn't a real website for the restaurant yet since they just opened, and I was a little skeptical at first, but decided to give it a try anyway. Pros: Service, atmosphere, selection Cons: None! more
