I've been dining at San Remo for well over 7 years and have yet to have a bad experience there. The staff is consistently pleasant and cordial, the food is fantastic, and the serv...

My wife and I went on Saturday, 2/16/08. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. The place is small, but it was full. We both ordered specials. She had the lobster ravioli...

Best Italian in Cary! 9/29/2009

If you like Italian cuisine...You MUST vist San Remo! Pros: Lunch Buffet more

Enjoyed it - Often 9/28/2009

The buffet at lunch is diverse and very filling for the price. You definitely get your moneys worth! The fresh dough knots/balls with icing and chocolate drizzels is the bomb. I've been for dinner about 3 times since I have lived in the area. Each time the experience has been excellent. The obviously family run restaurant really makes you feel like a part of the community/family (and I'm not Italian). Pros: Filling Lunch Buffet and tasty dinners more

soggy bread, monarch sauce? 9/21/2009

It's taken me a litle while to post this review, but after reading several of the others, I noticed that there are complaints about the bread. While it may be faccacia (sp?) type, it is definately in spirit only. The bread is soggy and the sauce tastes like the tomato paste you would get at a fast food pizza buffet restaurant. the entree(s) that i have had here are okay, but only okay because the prices are pretty steep. Probably, you'd be better off buying a can of tomato paste yourself and spending 20 minutes making sauce instead of wasting 50 bucks on two people for poor bread and overpriced food, no matter how appetizing it may smell. i have never had too many issues with the service, but in my past visit, the high school type atmosphere of the establishment is obvious and that is something I do not want to tolerate when I'm spending hard earned money. I want atmosphere with my food, not squeals and gossip and chatty staff who don't care about my needs. Definately gone downhill. I think in Cary I'll be going elsewhere from now on. Pros: at least the bread was ""free"" Cons: canned sauce IMO more

went to eat, but closed 9/21/2009

I went to go to this establishment to eat, but it was closed before the posted hours were reached. I had been here before, with satisfactory results, but it is irking to try to get something (to go even) and to be hamstrung by the place not even being open when you try to go in! I won't be back, open or not! Pros: didn't have to pay Cons: i wanted to eat more

Poor Customer Service 8/17/2009

My family and I went to San Remo for the lunch buffet and the food was day old and cold. The owner Johnny was very dry and cold when we mentioned our concern. Very slow in getting food and drinks. Food is bland. The small dinining area is unclean as is the carpet. Do yourself a favor and go elsewere! Pros: cheap buffet Cons: Poor Service and Dirty more

Delicious Food 7/20/2009

My family ordered take out from San Remo this past weekend. We were very pleased with the experience. My husband and I shared the appetizer special (prosciutto wrapped shrimp) and the steak special (10oz. filet). They were both very delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender. We ordered chicken fingers and baked ziti off the kid's menu for our children. My son ate every bite of his chicken fingers meal. My daughter barely made a dent in her baked ziti because of the very generous portion we received! We would recommend San Remo to anyone. more

Best Italian food 7/17/2009

Hubby and I love to try different restaurants but we no longer try new Italian restaurants. They were never as good as San Remo's. We know everyone by name and always have good service. The food is the best Italian in the area. Pros: Food/Service/Atmosphere Cons: Not closer to my house more

I love this place! 7/16/2009

I moved to this area from the N. Raleigh area a couple of years ago and immediately set out to locate an establishment to entertain clients and to dine regularly. I found it when I walked through the door the first time and was warmly greeted by Carla (front manager/ bartender/owner's sister). I patronize San Remo a minimum of 4 times per week for lunch or dinner, alone or with clients, and have never experienced the problems I see in some of the other reviews. Pros: Family owned & operated - warm & inviting more

Awesome Restaurant!!!! 7/15/2009

I have been dinning at San Remo for several years now and the food and service is outstanding! Chef Johnny creates incredible dishes and the nightly specials are amazing!!! Carla and Julie are a delight behind the bar and can fix any type of drink you can imagin. All wait staff are professional and welcoming! Pros: Excellent Food and Service Cons: I can eat lunch there everyday too! more

terrible lunch buffet 7/8/2009

I guess you get what you pay for. The much ballyhooed lunch buffet that I read about on the website failed to live up to expectations. I was on the border of Apex/Cary and wanted some Italian fare for lunch, but this was very disappointing. It is never pleasant to have old food on a buffet. I understand that buffets are money makers for the business, but can we get something that isn't rock hard or that hasn't been sitting out since lunch opened? I won't be going back for lunch, that's for sure. Pros: price Cons: dried out, old crusty food more

worst dessert, bland sauce, cramped space, UGH 7/8/2009

Patrons, please don't order anything with red sauce on it. I wasn't aware that ketchup was the new vogue for marinara. Pros: on kildare farm road Cons: cramped like a pretzel more

trashy service, shoddy management practices 7/8/2009

hmmm, from reading the reviews of this restaurant, seems a few people don't understand how city-pass works. they set out a list of holidays that coupons are not allowed. i personally saw one of the people in vlsmith's party pwnt the manager when he read aloud to him that independence day was not one of the excluded holidays from the city pass book and then he dejectedly took the coupon. that manager also would not come out to talk to the party since he had been humiliated before about the coupon usage. COULD NO ONE AT THE RESTAURANT READ THAT INDEPENDENCE DAY WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXCLUDED HOLIDAYS?!!? apparantly not, and with a community college right across the street!! Pros: i didn't have to tip Cons: i wasted an hour of my life more

first in cary best in cary 7/7/2009

I moved here recently and this is one of the first restaurants I have visited. I don't have reason to go anywhere but here for every occasion. The people here have treated me with such family oriented ideals that I almost feel at home. I love this bar and restaurant. I was just here for my birthday and the owner and all the staff made sure to make it known that it was my day and they did such fantatsic things for the group I brought in, I can't begin to show my gratitude. This is a place for everyone. I LOVE it! Pros: best service ever more

a comment to vlsmith4 7/7/2009

I am solely commenting on a review by someone who I personally saw in this restaurant the day that their review discusses. I would like to make it apparent that we also had Rachel (and granted I have never had this waitress before) but I came in with 7 people and was catered to all night to the epitome of perfection. Rachel was a great waitress, she did her job and we ordered apps, dinners, wine , and the desert. The owner also did a phenomenal job of making us feel comfortable and personally made sure we were happy with everything we ordered. I will say that this group that was seated next to us did seem to enjoy their dinner, after their discrepancy about a coupon they had that specifically said ""void on holidays"" (it was July 4th) was honored by the management after they pulled up a list of what was considered a holiday. I'm sorry I think July 4th is a holiday. Maybe management made that same mistake. The coupon was then honored for them. As they left, they asked the bartender, Julie, for the manager. She told them that he had left for the night ( most manager's can leave an establishment with employees that they can trust ) which was true and they made a comment about us being at the bar finishing our wine from dinner, they then proceeded to leave the restaurant and yell to the bartender and all of us sitting at the bar, "" good thing this bar doesn't have a problem serving people that make less money than we do "" Pros: one of the only great places in cary Cons: haven't find any more

SarahYorkshire is a FAKE reviewer 7/7/2009

Come on.... do you think we're Stupid ??? The SarahYorkshire Profile was set up on July 6th... the same day you wrote the FAKE REVIEW to try and counter the low reviews your business is getting. It only worsens the effect people! Pros: GivemeaBreak! Cons: Another Desperate Entity more

San Remo - great fun... great food 7/6/2009

There is always a great time to be had at Johnny's place. There is always a friendly face to greet you and the food is always freshly made. A taste of old world Italian cooking with a neighborhood feel. Try the Passion Martini - Carla's greatest invention!!! Pros: Friendly inviting family atmosphere more

Great Food - HORRIBLE SERVICE 7/6/2009

Some friends and I visited San Carlo this evening arriving at around 8:30PM looking forward to a wonderful Italian meal. We were seated in a booth and promptly greeted by Rachel, our server for the evening. Everything started out great, we got our drinks, gave our order and received a huge plate of varietal bread. Our meals came, perfectly prepared and full of great taste. However, I have to say that things took a turn for the worst just as we were finishing up our entrees. Rachel seemed to be in a hurry to leave for the evening and her pleasantness quickly turned to bitter disregard for our patronage. She was concerned about not having ""time to do anything when [she] got off work."" And was off put when we asked her about desserts. We needed to see a menu and she was clearly irked that we weren't sure what we wanted right away, even making a comment that the kitchen was closing in 30 minutes and we should hurry to make our orders. At this point, she is no longer smiling and is obviously annoyed that we are still there. Our desserts come (3 creme brulees and a tiramisu) and tasted great. However, when the bill came, and you can believe it came in a hurry, there was a small disagrement regarding a coupon from the Citi Pass book that we wished to use against our bill. Rachel said that she would not accept it because it was a holiday. We requested to speak with a manager (who's name we were not able to get), we showed him the book where Independence day was not listed as one of the exceptional holidays and he accepted the coupon. While the manager was at the table, and Rachel was taking the checks, with our credit cards, to process the payments she made a comment under her breath that it was already 10:00 PM. Her and the manager walked away from the table at the same time. Within 5 minutes Rachel returned with our bills and noted that the coupons and been accepted, ""by the way,"" she added ""we are already closed."" We said that shouldn't matter, we were seated well before closing and were frankly in disbelief that she even would say such a thing. We asked to speak with the manager again and Rachel walked off. We waited around for a few minutes and asked the bartender, Julie, if she could get the manager. We were told that he had already left for the evening. Which we found suspicious considering we had just spoken with him about 5 minutes earlier and there were no less than 6 people being served alcohol at the bar. We could not believe that the manager would leave before all tabs / checks had been settled for the evening. Pros: chicken saltimboca, creme brulee Cons: server was extremely rude more

Great place for a great meal! 5/9/2009

My family gets pizza from here almost every Friday and it's always wonderful. My family won't eat pizza anywhere else! I have never had a soggy pizza. We have also tried lots of entrees and we are never disappointed, everything is always so fresh. Sometimes, when they are really busy, the wait can be a little long, but what do you expect when everything is cooked fresh? It's always worth the wait for fresh and delicious food. The family that owns the resturant are great and hard working people. I have never been there when a family member is not behind the counter working. The chef/owner is always there and really cares about the food he is making. His sister works behind the bar and always greets us by name when we come in, we really feel appreciated. Give this place a try and I bet you won't be disappointed! If for some reason you are disappointed let a staff member know and I'm sure they will fix the problem, they seem to really care what their customers think and want everyone to be happy. In these hard economic times shouldn't we be supporting our locally owned and operated business? Pros: PIZZA!! BREAD! SERVICE! Cons: parking can be a pain when you are in a hurry more

Whole pizza is always soggy--why? 4/30/2009

Everytime we order a 16 in. pizza from here, the crust is so soggy, especially in the middle. You can't even pick it up, you have to eat it with a fork. It's just mushy. This is needless--they should fix this problem by crisping up their crust or something. Too bad. There is a new Italian place just across the street, and their pizza is nice and crisp. Unfortunately, we'll be ordering from there next time. :( Pros: generous with toppings Cons: soggy soggy soggy more

What a Hidden Treat 1/21/2009

I moved to NC 3.5 years ago and discovered this place about 6 months after I settled in, what a treat! It is a family owned business and they think a lot of makiing new friends of their customers. I have had just about everything on the menu and have loved every meal I've been served...some of my favs are the Pizza!, Shrimp DeCasa, Calamari, Ravioli, Lasagna, and the Eggplant Parmagiani! Never knew I liked eggplant parmagiani until I had it here, now I love it! Amazes me to read a few of the reviews on here and all I have to say is if you are looking to use a coupon for a pizza, well...you should probably stay in and call one of the local chains for delivery! I mean, come on...this is an authentic Italian restaurant, I think it's generous that they even offer a coupon for the entrees! Everyone from the hostesses/hosts to the owner are very kind, generous and hard-working. Now my favorite, the bar crowd! What a bunch of great people! They will make you feel right at home here. I, myself, have made this place my home away from home. Coming from Northern VA without my friends and family, the patrons and the bartenders have made my transition bearable. I can't tell you how many laughs I experience each night I am there. It's hugs and kisses hello and goodbye each night...just can't get that anywhere! Oh, and their dinner specials are very plentiful and amazing, you'll love them. And they also offer wine tastings each month (last Monday) and every few months they have a wine dinner which is an incredible experience. So come on in, say hello, have a drink(s) and a very tasty meal...you won't regret it. more
