Great Sushi and Service 5/7/2011

The sushi is exteremely fresh and good and the service is exceptional. There would not be a line of people waiting to get in every weekend if this wasn't true. Also they now have a wood burning stove and have added fresh grilled fish and steaks to their menu. I have tried the grilled mai mai and salmon and I can attest to their flavor. My wife and I go there almost every Friday and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each time. I highly recommend them. more

Don't do it! 5/5/2011

We have been going to Samuria for years because of our parents and I don't know if they have changed hands but THEY ARE AWFUL! The food is mediocre at best and tghe service is BRUTAL! GO ANYWHERE BUT DON'T ORDER FROM THEM! more

terrible food, for once 4/23/2011

i was so dissapointed. i loved this place and always tell others about it although in the back of my mind knowing that its best kept a secret and don't always want to get out. I have been going to Samuari for about 9 years now and tonight I had some of the worst sushi I have ever had. I think that bad nights can happen with fish however the story gets deeper. One of the owners asked how everything wsas and I said ""ok"". My husband asked me why I didn't say that it wasn't good to which I replied ""I didn't want to embarrass you"". He let me know that I should tell them the fish wasn't good. The next time that the gal came around, I let her know that 3 of the fish I had were not good. And that what came from the kitchen cooked, were good. She told me that fish was fresh that day. Not good I told her. Not to mention there was no shine to the fish like there should be. I have love this place for a long time and referred many people to it but after tonights experience, I don't know if I can be an advocate. more

More Americanized 4/16/2011

My husband and I used to come here over 10 years ago. Back then, it had more of the atmosphere of a traditional neighborhood Japanese restaurant & the clientele to match (We had lived in Japan years ago). Recently, we went again & found that it was much more Americanized. The food's still great and so is the service, but the ambience is lost. It's still worth going to, but it's not the same. more

Unprofessional management 6/16/2010

I visited today (June 16) for lunch and the food was great along with the service. My experience was good until I witnessed my waitress getting fired in front of me and the rest of the restaurant. It was uncalled for and very unprofessional especially for a manager. Pros: Good Food Cons: Unprofessional management more

GREAT SUSHI, CHEAP PRICE 6/1/2010

I love to visit Sushi Samarai for lunch & dinner. For lunch, I often meet friends & sit at the sushi bar. For dinner, I like the 2 for 1 drinks specials all night, especially saki & all my favorite dishes are served for a measly $20. The green mussels, dynamite & jalapeno rolls are excellent! Reserve one of their private rooms for large parties. Dana always takes good care of us & makes us feel appreciated as loyal customers. I read the many coments about the poor service at Samarai posted here & although some criticisms may be valid, the overall experience is always pleasant & the food is good. Don't be in a rush when you visit Samarai & you, too, will recommend it to your friends! Pros: ALL U CAN EAT SUSHI & 2 FOR 1 DRINKS ALL NIGHT Cons: not a place to go if you are in a hurry more

don't bother 5/27/2010

The food here is great but that's where it stops. After waiting for a server after being seated, we had to ask for more drinks after the waitress looked at our table several times without coming over. We ordered the all you can eat sushi lunch buffet and I am convinced they take as long as possible to bring the food so you give up and leave. We ordered off of a card and never even received items we ordered, but didn't have the time to waste an actual waitress trip to our table to argue over what we didn't get. The attitude was less than desirable as well. All in all, if quality of service doesn't matter to you and you have hours to spend, this is the place for you. Pros: great sushi Cons: terrible service more

My Favorite Sushi Restaurant - I love this place! 5/23/2010

We have been eating at Samurai for many, many years and we love it! In fact, I try to go there once a week to get my sushi fix. The restaurant has become more crowded since they started the all you can eat option, more so on the weekends at least, but what do you expect when you go to a great restaurant that offers delicious sushi at such a great price! Unlike a couple of the prior reviews, we have never had to wait unusually long for our order to arrive. The all u can eat sushi is awesome both for lunch and dinner. It is not one of those yucky all u can eat buffets. You actually order off of a special sushi menu with many items to choose from including appetizers and non-sushi items (i.e Gyoza, Shumai, Tempura, Beef Teriyaki, etc.). For dinner the price is approx. $5 more with even more items to choose from. The sushi is fresh and they do a great job with the preparation. You can order off of the regular menu if you prefer not to take advantage of the all-u-can-eat option. The owner, Dana, is very friendly and always greets us with a great big smile. Her staff provides us with friendly, personal, and attentive service. If you are in a hurry to stuff your face with sushi and go, don't expect to get that done here at peak hours. If the place is crowded when you get there, get a table, relax, have some happy hour drinks and enjoy your meal and your friends. We love to share the Samurai experience with our friends and family. I hope you enjoy it too! And just know that there is a very good reason this restaurant gets full...it's great! Pros: Excellent food, great all-u-can-eat price, friendly staff Cons: I eat too much! more

Worst Service in the Denver Area 4/20/2010

I have been going to the Samurai for over 10 years now and the service since they started the all you can eat Sushi has gone downhill fast. We ate there on Sunday, April 11 and one of our guest ordered the all you can eat sushi. His first order of 6 rolls took over an hour to arrive and his second order never arrived. Two hours after being seated, we asked if he could get his order to go and were told that was no problem. We waited another 30 minutes and of course no food arrived at the table. We had now been at the restaurant for almost 3 hours and it was time to go. We told the server to just cancel the order. Our dishes remained on the table the entire meal and not once did anyone offer to clear the table. On our way out we heard several people complaining about the service and I guess we were not the only table having problems. I wrote to the management at the Samurai and I never received a reply. So much for customer service. Pros: Good Food Cons: Service more

Good Food, WORST WORST service EVER! 4/14/2010

We used to go to this place a lot. We always had problems with the way waitresses react. They are a bunch of very rude people who do not care for the business at all. We went there last saturday and the restaurant was full. There were 2 tables available though. After about 20 min of waiting some one came to us and had us seated...we sat and waited another 10 min for some one to ask us what we want to drink(it is not the worst part yet) Since we wanted the all you can eat sushi menu, we ordered what we wanted at 5:45 and we got a part of it at 6:45 while we were still waiting for the other part of our menu to get prepared at 7:30 we still had nothing to eat. We were at our table starring at other people complaining about the time factor. Finally my husband, who is such a patient guy, decided to ask the people about our food...he told them that we have lost our appetite and are about to lose our mood as well...Here's what she answered with a loud vice: "" Once you see the restaurant is this busy, you can decide not to stay at the very first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!"" OMG!!!!!! I decided to speak up and told her that I want to see the manager. She did not care at all. I told her that we are paying for what we eat and we are not guest and she left. We waited for the manager and to my surprise manager was one of the impolite girls!...she came to us and just said sorry...let's see what I can do....she left and brought us 2 very strange cookies!!!!!!!!! We left the place paying full amount of our bill and not having what we went for with a very bad mood for saturday night. Paying 50 bucks to be treated like that? We will not go there any more even though the food is good. I mean who cares for the good food when it is served with a LONG delay and bad temper. Pros: Very good california roll Cons: we waited for it to be prepared for almost 2 hours more

Excellent FOOD & EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE 4/5/2010

I went to Sushi Samurai 3 times. The first time, I ended up walking out because my friend and I had been waiting to be greeted for over 15 min by a hostess and she kept walking by and ignoring the line of 6+ people behind us. The second time, the waiter was unfriendly and mumbled his answers and we had to get up and ask for the bill. We didn't order that much food and it took over an hour for 2 people to eat when the place wasn't that busy. The third time, I went there for a happy hour lunch with m best friend. We told the waiter we were in a hurry and yet he was still slow with the food and the bill we barley made it back to work in time. The service makes me not want to go back, but the food is awesome! I hope the owner reads this. Pros: Food was Excellent and Fresh Cons: Hostess and Wait Staff not friendly and slower than snails more

Great food, Service was awful 12/22/2009

Service was horrific. Waited (at lunch) over an HOUR just to GET our food. Some at the table never got theirs. Pros: Food fresh and delicious Cons: Sadly I had to eat the food with that waitstaff present more

Probably the Best Night Ever? 8/21/2008

You must order the ?Neo Sashimi Wrap?, ?Sashimi Half moon?, and the ?Peacock Roll?. They are 3 (sort-of expensive) specialty rolls that will knock your socks off. The sushi last night was sooo awesome that my husband and I couldn?t even fight over our ruined and dwindling marriage. Samurai?s commitment to quality and service is outstanding. The sushi was so incredible I never once thought about how much I hated or was disgusted with the man sitting across from me. I?ve been going to Samurai for over 10 years and they never cease to please me every time. No matter where I live in Denver I will always go out of my way to eat at Samurai. I?m claiming Samurai in my divorce papers. Pros: Best Sushi Ever - Best Flavors of Specialty Rolls Cons: Can't think of anything right now more

OMG I LOVE SAMURAI! 3/22/2008

Let's see where to start! I am a very avid sushi eater, growing up in NYC I know what it means to have great tasting and FRESH food! Samurai exceeded my expectations from the beginning! The exterior of the restaurant definitely does not do it justice! When I was walking towards the entrance I though to myself ?this place looks like a whole in the wall? but the minute I walked in it was completely stylish then I expected. It has a very homey feeling to it! The FOOD WAS AMAZING! I left it up to the waitress to surprise me, and I?ve never had sushi as good as it was here! All the tastes were so BOLD and every flavor complimented each other! The staff was like family and their sake list was phenomenal (Especially the dessert Apple sake!). I?ve been going there ever since! Pros: the cheap prices for great food and service Cons: not enough room for parties over 10 people more

Top 5 Sushi restaurant in Denver 4/4/2007

This is one of my favorite Sushi places. Ive been to 20 different sushi joints in Denver, and by far, this is above many. This is definately in my top 5, and I consider myself a sushi connoisseur. They have a specific nigiri dish here that is not served anywhere else. It's a tofu pocket (inari) with salmon and crab w/ mayo in it. Definitely one of my favorites here. They also have excellent hand rolls here during happy hour. My favorite is the spicy california roll. We obviously know about the Sushi Den's and the Sasa's, however, give this diamond in the rough a chance. The value is the only drawback, i recommend going during happy hour which is around 5-7 pm. Pros: Dishes not found anywhere else in denver Cons: value.. go during happy hour more
