Samena is needs complete new staff training, please! 7/7/2010

We have been going to Samena club for several years, because we have young kids and they love the pool. The staff there is so rude, it is beyond rude. If its older ladies at front, they look at you like you are bothering them. The younger ones really have no clue. The swim instructors are super young, the lessons are below average and packed. I dont like the way I am treated there, the staff does not care about complaints. If I could not go to Samena I would not go, but the kids like the water. I wish all the staff were just instantly replaced. ESPECIALLY the staff 'upstairs', I wandered up there once to get some help, and was treated very poorly. more

New Indoor Pool Is AWESOME! 2/26/2009

My family has been enjoying Samena for a number of years and the recent upgrade to the indoor pool building is awesome! I find it refreshing for a club to be able to upgrade without raising dues and the fact that Samena is non-profit speaks even higher of the quality of the club. The swim lessons are the best around....I highly recommend Samena to anyone that wants a great place for their family! more

Samena is a rip-off 11/17/2008

Our family joined Samena just before they closed the indoor pool for nine months, and there was no disclosure of this when we signed up. Nor was there any discount for the inconvenience. Then there are the constant ?late? fees. I use the term in quotation marks because I always send my check in the first week of the month, but somehow they never get it until after the 16th, and therefore put their hand in my pocket for another $10. The postal service is uniquely slow in delivering the mail to Samena, although they have no problems with my other bills. Their ready answer to the mysteriously slow postal service? Automatic deductions. That?s right, just give them access to your checking account. I finally got sick of it and quit, for which they?re charging me another $89. The staff is rude and generally incompetent: they don?t care, and they don?t have to, and they act like it. more

Happy Member...and I am sure I am not the only one! 7/26/2007

I have had nothing but great experiences at Samena Swim & Recreation Club. It was my understanding that the indoor pool will be closed this fall for a final phase of renovation to the indoor pool area. But the rest of the facility will be open and operating as usual such as the fitness room, outdoor pool, preschool, family events, and the before and afterschool care programs. This family oriented facility has been the gem of the Lake Hills area and has provided many families with a place to spend quality time in a safe environment. It has been my experience that when I have had an issue or a concern that management has always been receptive and willing to remedy my situations. My advice to the previous reviewer is to contact the general manager directly if they are feeling this dissatisfied and afford the club the opportunity to resolve this matter, or even the board of directors if they felt the need. Sounds like someone may have caught someone on a bad day. My kids learned to swim at more

Samena ABUSES its members!!! 7/26/2007

We JUST joined Samena and 2 months later find out that the place will be closed all winter long for a new addition. We WERE NOT TOLD, and when we discussed this with them that we no longer wanted to be members b/c the whole reason for joining was for the indoor pool - we were treated VERY poorly. \r The facility is nice (but aging), but its the STAFF that really is bad. The front desk treats you like you are bothering them, since they are older ladies who love to gossip amongst themselves and hate to be interrupted or bothered by members... and when I went upstairs to the 'offices' I was treated very gruffly by some rather large woman who told me to go downstairs and leave a note, though, when I went back down, they told me -they do not take messages!!\r The wading pool for kids is always crowded, the swim lesson instructors are young, and always checking the clock to go...overall if I could do it again, I would not have joined. more

Great preschool and children's camp 7/11/2006

We just moved here from CA and looked at a number of preschools for transfer. While Samena didn't look all shiny from the outside, the care of the staff and the fun my daughter has in school does not compare. This is the first school she has attended where she begs me to stay for the afternoon program. The art program is fantastic and the main teacher, Miss Cherie, has wonderful ideas for activities for the kids. Not to mention, a swim lesson or playing in the wading pool (during camp) is part of the daily activities. They also have a great outside playground. The only thing it needs is a sandbox. Pros: staff, activities, swimming Cons: facilities look a little worn, but they try more

Great Value 11/4/2005

I know so many people who have gone to this club since they were children and now to there with their own children. It is a great value, has recently updated facilities and offers a wide variety of programs for the whole family. A super alternative to chain fitness clubs, as this is a great place that caters to the whole family. more

A great place with activities for the whole family. 11/2/2005

This is a very family-centric place. There are activities for family members of all ages. It is a great place to network and get to know your community neighbors better. They offer nice swimming facilities, activity rooms and clean locker rooms. This is a great place to hang out on a rainy day (of which we have quite a few). more

Family friendly small town atmosphere 6/25/2005

This is a great club with a tight knit community in it and a family friendly environment. It may have a small town atmosphere but the equipment and the trainers of top of the line. more

The best value in town 5/25/2005

Samena is a great family swimming and recreation club and the best value in the area. The club strives to cater to whole families with activities for all ages including a wonderful pre-school for 3-5 yr olds. more
