Fascinating 7/12/2006

I knew a little bit about Dali before my visit to the museum, the melting clocks and distorted women, but actually going there was enlightening. I saw so much of his work that I became a greater fan than before. There was a large selection of his work, and the admission price was pretty good. Maybe don't take small children, but if they are mature enough I say go ahead, art needs to be viewed. more

Surreal Life 3/29/2006

The Salvador Dali museum is a must stop for anyone who enjoys more contemporary art. The pieces are a little extreme at times so I wouldnt take small children. I really dont feel you can truely appreciate his work until you see them in person. This musuem is not just a place for locals but I was surprised how many people from out of state put this as a must stop on their list of tourist attractions. more

St. Pete is lucky to have Dali's work 10/30/2005

That's right. Because this is an excellent museum. They have many of his original works, including those giant 30 foot high murals. Some of his works are a bit... bizarre to say the least, but that's part of surrealism. I've been coming to this museum for many years now, it is a great experience for those who live in the bay area or who are visiting. Take a friend with you, it's that good. more

Get Some Culture On Your Vacation 8/20/2005

There is always something to do at the Dali Museum. They have pretty decent exhibits revolving around Salvador Dali. Not sure how you would feel about taking kids there because some of his art is a little on the scary side so maybe not a good idea to take small children but other than that a good place to check out when in St. Pete. more

Great but call first 8/7/2005

The first time I visited the Salvador Dali Museum I was VERY impressed. The number of pieces on display was more than I had expected (most of the original clock/time paintings were on display). However, the second time I visited the museum they had a LOT of the popular pieces out on loan to other museums which significantly decreased the value of my visit. With all of the paintings on location, this is a GREAT place to view some of Dali's most famous and not-so-famous pieces. Allow for 2 hours to roam the museum with a full collection. Parking is available on-street or in a small parking lot south of the museum. more

You know if you'll like it or not 8/6/2005

Most people I know either love Salvador Dali or hate him. So, most people would know if they would like a building full of his work. If you are a fan, there is a large selection at this museum. Besides some of the works most everyone has seen (The Persistence of Memory, one of the ones with the melting clocks) there are also some that are not as well known including sketchbooks. The focal point is 4 megaworks including Columbus Discovering America. There are many special events, including Surreal Fridays during the summer when admission is $5, there is usually a showing of a silent film and a themed band (jazz, etc). There are also food and drinks on those days. more

Amazing! 8/6/2005

If you live in the Tampa bay area you must go to the Dali museum! it is incredible! They have an enormous collection of most of his work, including the huge murals he painted! This museum is simply amazing and you have to see it for yourself. Ticket prices are reasonable and you should definitely go. If you like surrealism you probably know about Salvador Dali so go check it out soon and come back here to let others know what you thought! more

Wonderful exhibits 8/5/2005

The Salvador Dali Museum in Saint Petersburg is a really wonderful place. Dali was probably completely out of his mind but he produced some really fascinating art. I think they have student discounts and occasionally a free day for the public, but even at the regular price this is a great deal. I think they are relocating and hopefully they will be able to get in some more works because it is a little small, but if you're like me a 90 minutes is plenty. more

One of the greatest museums in America 8/4/2005

If you enjoy Salvador Dali and other surrealist artists, then there is no better place in this country for you than St. Petersburg, Florida. The Dali museum is unique: it is the largest museum in America dedicated to a single artist, and holds the largest Dali collection outside of Spain - including some of his most recognizable works. Whether you are a casual observer or a Dali fan, don't miss the guided tour - there is always something new to learn. The gift shop could be a little better - the should have more fun with the surrealist theme and create some more unusual objects to take home, but that's about the only weakness. more
