Can't get this place out of my head- and can't wait to go back. Everything was exceptional. Amazing pasta- and I usually don't go out to eat pasta- but this was from another world! Professional, happy staff made it an unexpectadly amazing evening. Just Go. Pros: everything! Cons: I guess it's pretty pricey more

Hidden Gem in Bella Vista 11/10/2008

Went there last week for a business dinner. The food is amazing and is reason enough to make the trip! Their pasta is made in house at their bakery around the corner, so are their desserts. I had the ravioli (heavenly) and steak special- to die for! There are only 2-3 meals per year where I enjoy it enough to fantasize about it days after, this was one of them. more

bad food great service 8/8/2007

Living on past reputation.Visited on a friday night,the place was more than half empty.Outrageously expensive,$780 including tip for 6 people,including the 3 people that actually got sick later that night!!!! the service ,however,was the best I've had for some time.also,the restaurant is a great looking place.Won't go back,there are many,many,many better restaurants at half the price. more

Kudos from a Constant Business Diner 10/18/2006

I was fortunate enough to be there as a business dinner but this is one of the restaurants in North America that I'd gladly plunk down my own AMEX for. I ate at Saloon in February 2004 and it still ranks as one of my top three meals ever (View from Nikolai's Roof in Atlanta and Keane's in NYC). Pros: Sit upstairs, a really neat setting with views of the upstairs bar and windows from the 2nd floor. Cons: I wouldn't park my own car as mentioned previously. more

Absolutely the worst 1/17/2006

After appetizers, we waited over an hour for our entrees. Our server said a large party had put their order in right before ours. I would hope that a restaurant this of this size and reputation could either handle the four additional steaks we had ordered or make our wait worthwhile. When our food finally arrived, three of the four steaks were grossly overcooked. The server removed only one from the table and said she would take it off the bill. When the bill did arrive, it included an additional $15 charge for the mashed potatoes the waitress said she would substitute for two of the steak's mushrooms. All in all, the food, service and price were unexceptable. With so many great italian restaurants and steak houses in Philadelphia, why would anyone choose The Saloon? Many times I head to South Phila with intentions of dining at another of the many fine restaurants in the area, however ,more often than not I gravitate back to the Saloon. The Best Restauant in Philly 6/3/2003

The food is impeccable, I have never been dissappointed. No matter how full you are, you always seem to make room for that desert. The staff is so professional, friendly and curteous. The owner is often found mingling in the crowd and greeting customers. The atmosphere is wonderful. There is no better place in the city for a great dinner. I have been here once, but what style, what class! The meal was the most expensive I had ever actually paid for and it was worth every penny. The service was gracious, the chops memorable. This is not high cuisine but perfect staples. I think it must be Philadelphia's best steak house, and of course it gets extra points because it is not part of a chain.
