I went to this salon by recommendation. Kim the owner did my weave and the closure was horrendous. I should have gone to the African Hair braiding place up the street and saved $1...

Worse Closure ever! 1/8/2012

I went to this salon by recommendation. Kim the owner did my weave and the closure was horrendous. I should have gone to the African Hair braiding place up the street and saved $100. NEVER AGAIN WILL I STEP IN THAT PLACE! more

Tacky and OVERLY EXPENSIVE!! 9/26/2011

Went there twice to get a touch up and walked out paying $70 and the second $98.00!!Are you serious?! Prices always change, and never for the good. I have never in my life. Some of the staff are ok, but it wasn't very busy, (I wonder why) The place is overcrowded with their junk they call fashion and smoothies? :-/ This place is in the hood, and they don't have Hollywood clients for their prices that they charge!! It's really ridiculous how much they charge. Heaven forbid I got a cut, I would have to sell my car! I'm sure they would have more clients if she wasn't so expensive. I have now made it a habit to go to the local Dominicans. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! more

Slight change of heart 9/21/2010

Okay, over a year later and I figured I would come to update my previous review (which I apparently erased by accident) oops. I had been to Salon K 2 times before with excellent experiences. Great razor cut, neat & nicely installed extensions, friendly service, good experience. Since I haven't really been able to find another good salon on Staten Island that care for ethnic hair I was happy overall and fully expected to continue my patronage there. My first review stated that my only issue was parking--since the only option is to feed the meters in front IF there is an open spot. NOW, I think I would still go to them in a pinch...but I must be honest and say I have not come back to them since last year for the following reasons: 1. Comparitively speaking to the Dominican spots in BK that I've found lately, their prices are more expensive for what I got. 2. My regular stylist was gone unexpectantly (w/o notice) so I had to go to the owner to get my weave installation. First--I'm not even sure if they knew I was showing up when I got there that morning. They seemed surprised that I was on the books. You'd think since I booked the appt awhile ago you would have seen that I was coming in that day, right? Second- I had to assume that she was a good stylist since she was the owner, but didn't like the feeling that I was still taking a chance on a stylist I didn't have a chance to ""check out their skills"" first. But anyway, they quickly put me in the chair, so no wait, but that brings me to 3. THOSE CORNROWS WERE SO DAGGONE TIGHT! I felt like my scalp was bleeding for a little while. LOL. Too much and was not comfortable. I wound up saying something & I thought she was about to loosen some of them but instead just cut a few threads and gave me a towel to soothe my scalp. huh? 4. Showed her a picture of the cut I wanted and it really didn't turn out the pic at all. I went home and got it cut again the next day. I've seen her cut others' short hair and it looked GREAT. Maybe longer hair or that particular style wasn't her thing that day. Anyway, I'm not completely writing off Salon K--because again, my other visits were still good & I haven't been able to find another on SI that can manage AA hair well...but I figured I come back here to re-evaluate my ""continued patronage"" mentality as stated before. more
