Charlie is an amazingly talented stylist. He is willing to take as much or as little input as you want to give. In my case, I just want him to make me hair look gorgeous, and he always succeeds. He is extremely accommodating, and always wants to make his customers happy and beautiful. The atmosphere of the salon is also extremely pleasant - peaceful but not boring, stylish yet not overly trendy. I've been to some of the most expensive salons in the city and have never been happier with my hair than when Charlie cuts it. My hairstylist, Heather Davis, whom I've been going to for about 4 years now, just moved to Salon Sovay. I had been driving all the way to San Marcos to see her, even with the escalating gas prices. She is that good. I always get compliments on my hair because she always does such a good job. I wear my hair pretty short, and not everyone can cut short hair well, but Heather is a pro. Another thing I really appreciate about Heather is that she always spends a full hour with me for a cut and style. I never feel rushed, and she is great about making sure I'm happy with what she's done. You should go see her if you get a chance. I am so glad she is finally in Austin! more

Ask for Charlie Hodges if you want the best haircut and color in town. Not only is he very passionate about his work, he takes his time and provides you with the best products on the market. let me first say that i have been going to ERICA for several years and i will continue to go to her no questions asked!!!! I WILL FOLLOW HER ANYWHERE!!! she is absolutely the best! everytime i see her she gives me exactly what i ask for. i trust her TOTALLY...so much so that i will leave with my hair wet and know that it will look beautiful but of course she won't let me do that because she enjoys making you look beautiful!!! i am not kidding...when i leave the salon i get so MANY compliments about my hair and everybody wants to know who cuts my hair. i have a stack of her cards in my purse and i hand them out left and right. she loves pictures so if you find a hairstyle in a magazine and want to look like your favorite star just take it to her and she will make you look just like the picture!!! Marcy Hoen is the single best hairstylist in Austin. I have been going to her since 2003 and have followed her from Saks to Jose Luis and now Salon Sovay. I live in Round Rock so going to see her is quite a drive, but she is well worth it. \r \r She is always enthusiatic and listens to how you want your hair done. She never tries to push a certain style on her customers and works hard to make sure that you leave her chair feeling beautiful and satisfied.\r \r Marcy is extremely talented and has a real eye for looking at your facial structure and hair type, then creating a look that works well with you as a person and with your lifestyle. I recently tried to go see another hairstylist closer to my home and it was a total disaster. What a mistake and I learned my lesson. I didn't even let the hairstylist touch my hair after being treated rudely by her and the owner of the salon. \r \r I will continue to go to Marcy until she can no longer do hair or no longer wants to. She is not only talented, she is super smart and a real joy to talk with. Like I said, she is far from my home but she is worth every bit of gas. She is very flexible with booking and always on time. I have never had her rush through an appointment with me so that she could get to someone else. I highly recommend going to see her! I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a girly-girl. I don't have an entire bathroom cabinet devoted to hair products, I don't own a curling iron, and one time I went for a week without washing my hair (that was gross- I don't recommend it). That being said, I do enjoy relaxing in a comfortable atmosphere, like the one at Salon Sovay, and I DO actually care quite a bit how I look. That's why I'm so glad to have found Heather! She's the most talented stylist I've ever been to, hands down. She's very good at listening to what I want (when I know), and can fill in the blanks for me when I'm not sure. She's a genius with scissors and a wizard with color, on top of being stylish, charming, and personable. Heather helped me transition gracefully from an experimental shaved head period back into the world of people with hair. I don't know what I'd do without Heather- I'd probably never be able to look in the mirror again! I'm so excited that she's at Salon Sovay! OK, so I should first state that I am never satisfied with my hair. Also, I have moved around a lot so I get my haircut once and then never have a chance to see that stylist again. All of this to emphasize how impossibly picky I am AND that I have nothing to lose by being honest. \r \r I had my haircut in Austin while visiting a friend. The owner, Sovay herself, was incredibly considerate about trying to match my schedule with her stylists. She called me back promptly and was just super-sweet. \r \r My stylist is new. Her name is Heather, and she is possibly the sweetest and most careful stylist I have ever had. She spent SO MUCH time on my hair, and overall it came out really well. She has a real sense of style. She also listens well and is very accommodating. \r \r UPDATE 8/2/08: Two months ago, I wrote, ""I will write a word of caution for women who have a lot of texture to their hair, however. I have incredibly coarse, very thick, Chinese hair. Heather flat-ironed my hair first before she texturized it, and the cut looked great WITH the flat-ironing. But now that I've washed it, it's frizzy. Again, the style is FANTASTIC, and the frizz is nothing that can't be fixed with some careful styling...""\r \r The update is that within a week, the frizz calmed down and this became the best cut I've ever had. It's two months later, and the cut just keeps looking better and better. Thank you so much, Heather for the cut that keeps on giving. Pros: Service, Service, Service Cons: None. more

As a guy, it's always a little scarey to go to a new styist. Will she get it right? And will it turn out looking lame or have some edge to it? Will she pressure me into something I don't want or listen to what I like? That's why I'm so glad to see that my favorite stylist ever--Heather Davis--is joining the staff at Salon Sovay. I'm moving to Austin and the thought of having to find a new stylist was a bummer. Heather listens to what I want and always makes me look good. So don't be afraid. Visit Heather at Salon Sovay. I'm so excited that Heather Davis is joining Salon Sovay! She is without a doubt the best hair stylist I have ever been to, and I've always been thrilled with her work.. She is so talented and precise with her haircuts, and does amazing color work. Best of all, she's a stylist who listens to what I want, and helps me make decisions that I always love! If you are looking for a fabulous haircut and color, Charlie at Salon Sovay is your man! I was introduced to him at a different salon and now that he has moved to Salon Sovay I have followed him because there is no way I would ever again allow anybody else to touch my hair. The salon is spotless, beautiful decor and has a very relaxing atmosphere. Charlie is friendly, cool, a great listener, passionate about his work and professional service. Plus, he has ""mad skills"" with the shears and coloring products. My hair is not easy to work with. I have tons of hair and it can be unruly at times. Charlie has been taking care of my hair for about four years. His recommendations about products (not ""pushy""... just suggestions... I love that!) have brought my hair back to a very healthy state. I planned my Austin wedding from out of town and scoured this site for reviews on stylists that could do bridal updos. I happened to call Salon Sovay and Erica came highly recommended, and WOW, I was unbelievably LUCKY to find her. She did such a wonderful job on my hair, my 4 bridesmaids, my mother-in-law and EVEN my grandmother. She came to our hotel bright and early before my wedding and kept everyone on schedule and everyone's hair looked so beautiful and each style was unique. I wanted a kind of casual, low, messy bun, but something that would still look good with my veil and she did it exactly how I imagined. She is very talented, sweet and friendly - which is the perfect combination when working with someone on your wedding day. I am so excited to have met her, and now I already have a stylist when I move back to Austin!! What a FANTASTIC new 'do!! I wish I could include a picture just to show you what a great job they did. Here I was, in a massive time crunch & brand new to Austin....I needed a salon that could give me a great new 'do, at a great price & that could take me in on just ONE day's notice....I thought I was doomed for sure.\r \r Let me tell you....from the very first call, to the time I walked out the door, I was treated like ROYALTY. Savoy saved my life. For everyone that has had a self hair coloring job go bad, you know how horrible it is to live with it until someone can help you. Savoy was very flexible in scheduling me in. She took her time, explained all of the steps and did a wonderful job! She listened to how much time and energy I wanted to spend on my hair and cut accordingly. She provided tips on anything asked including makeup and complimentary colors to wear with my new hair color! Her techniques and products were gentle to my scalp and hair. I went to see Brooke for the 2nd time yesterday. The first time she was safe and gave me a trim. This time I came back with a picture that was much more drastic of a cut. She did a great job! She talked me through it and took her time, making sure it was perfect! The cut is great and exactly what I asked for. She is very sweet and actually listens to what you want. On top of that she has very reasonable prices! Great all the way around. My hair is thin and fine, so finding someone who can give me a hair cut I love, is like finding a needle in a haystack! I had a great experience at Salon Sovay, My previous hairstylist ( in a different city) had cut my hair in a way that I would only wear a ponytail everyday. Sovay was able to fix it and give me great tips on how to achieve the same look at home. I love that !! Thank you so much. I followed other great citysearch reviews to Sovay, and I'm thrilled that I did. After years of wearing my hair in a clip or ponytail to work at a laid-back SoCo office, I got a more formal job and didn't know what to do woth my hair. Sovay gave me some kind of magic cut that has all the flirty feminity of a Victoria's Secret model, yet seems to just fall that way with no effort from me. Suddenly it looked good un-clipped and down -- and that cut stayed looking just as good for more than two months. I just came back from my second visit to her where she did my color, too. I couldn't be more thrilled. I'm a lazy girl who doesn't want to spend a lot of effort to look great. Sovay's effort is all the effort my hair needs. I made an appointment with Sovay for a haircut and she treated me like no other stylist ever has. She is extremely personable and sweet, and she really loves what she's doing. Her salon is also really beautiful and clean but comfortable and they play really good music. She spent plenty of time on my hair and I didn't feel like I was being rushed through. She is masterful at blowouts and really spends time trying to teach you how to achieve the same style at home. You can tell that she wants you to be happy with your style.
