Friendly, relaxing atmosphere! 5/15/2007

I've been going to Salon Soca for years and I refuse to go anywhere else. The staff are the friendliest around and the service is excellent. I always leave very pleased with the color and cuts that I receive there! Pros: talented, skilled stylists Cons: not always easy to coordinate my color and cut on same day as I go to two different people. more

Won't Go Anywhere Else 5/15/2007

This cozy salon not only offers excellent service, but the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Everyone that works there is very nice. Brigette, the owner, is super amazing at color.....I won't let anyone else touch my hair. Give it a try, you'll never go back to another salon.\r \r more

My kind of place! 5/14/2007

Hello,\r \r Just try it! I've been to many different salons...some in the city, some in the 'burbs and I've lived around the world and all I can say is this place works...and it works well. So many hair salons look the same (Kinda shopping mall-ish or just all the formica furniture...you know what I mean) but this salon stands out with it's look, custom made furniture, rotating artwork, etc.. My wife is a client and said to give it a try and I'm glad I did. Great service, friendly staff, complimentary refreshments that change depending on the day of the week. With a free touch-up in between visits it's been 3 visits so far and I'm sold on this place. I'm particular about my hair and have seen 2 different stylists so far, Nicole and ?, and both cuts were great! I went in to p/u shampoo this Saturday and a wedding party of 13 women seemed to be having a great time. I have told friends to go and they all love it so far! So a summary: Great staff, great service, great music, great look and atmosphere. PS: I've met one of the owners Patrick on Saturday morning and the extra attention to detail was a great touch...a little concierge-ish. Pros: Just a great place...staff, scalp massage w/ haircut, feel....all fantastic! Cons: I need a Salon Soca closer to my house! more

Michelle B is the best !!! 5/11/2007

I've been going to Michelle B for several years and I have ALWAYS loved my cut and color. When I go in I usually just tell her to do what ever she wants, and she knows my hair and she always does something new and cute. I would never think of going somewhere else to get my hair done. Pros: Great ambience, clean, friendly staff Cons: parking can be a pain more

Great Place for Funky Modern Cuts 4/7/2007

I used citysearch to find this place, and I was extremely pleased! I was looking for a stylist who would give me a great cut, but also take some risks...being a woman with a short pixie cut/ fauxhawk. My stylist Joe talked me through the process and I ended up with a great edgy cut time after time. I especially appreciate his interest in creating new, exciting cuts . . . but don't get me wrong, I think Joe would be great whatever your style, but if you want something funky look him up! Pros: Friendly Service, Great Cut Cons: Nothing more

Go Natural - HENNA 3/20/2007

Brigette to the rescue!! I have been dying my hair for years and recently became allergic to permanent hair dye. I had been online doing some research about natural hair dye options when I read about Salon Soca and how Brigette was working with henna. I was impressed with the fact that one of her clients also had developed an allergy to permanent hair dye and she took it upon herself to research and learn the techniques of henna application for her client. I have been going to Brigette at Salon Soca for a few months now and have to say I am very impressed. She is a perfectionist and really dedicated to learning more about henna. It is comforting to go to her since I know she won?t let me leaver her salon unless the perfect color is achieved. Overall, the salon is warm and friendly and I would recommend it to anyone. more

excellent stylist for haircut and color 1/24/2007

All I can say is I love my haircut and color!! This was my first visit to the salon and the hair stylist, Michelle B. was attentive and listened to what I wanted. I received several compliments on my haircut. I finally found a hair stylist that I can stick with for a long time. I would definitely recommend her! Pros: excellent stylist and good service more

Best haircolorist in town - Joe 1/11/2007

My co-workers come into work one days with the most gorgeous hair color!! Of course I have to find out who does her color now..and it's Joe and Salon Soca of course, she tells me.\r \r So it's off to the internet to find out about Salon Soca, I find their tastefully done website read over all the goodies and grab the phone to make an appointment. I was even lucky enough to get in that very next weekend! \r \r I arrive and was happy to see that parking wasn't too hard to find. I park about a block away and head over to the unassuming little salon. I walk in and I am immediately greeted by a very friendly receptionist who takes my coat, gets me some coffee and tells me Joe's waiting for me and it'll be just a minute or so.\r \r My friend was wonderful enough to call Joe and let him know I was coming in and make sure I got his VIP service, but I get the feeling he's naturally great with everyone who comes in. \r \r I sit down in the chair and tell him how I am trying to get a nice deep red color with some dark lowlights...lots of deep rich colors..he says he knows exactly what to do and comes back shortly with the magical color!\r \r All and all it took about 2.5 hours to color and cut my below shoulder length very thick hair. Joe was great to talk to, made me feel at east and by the time it seemed like we'd been friends forever. And MY HAIR...it's beautiful. I get compliments on the color almost every single day and it's been almost three months now! I'm getting ready to make my next appointment any day now.\r \r My hair is beautiful with so many deep rich shades, the light catches it and it's just awesome. I am so pleased. The price was average for a two color process so I think I paid around $200...not unexpected for such a nice salon at all or such a great job. Shhh...I would have paid double.\r \r You have to check out Salon Soca and you must ask for Joe! I am sure everyone there is great, but now I'm biased...lol. :-) Pros: Great people, parking, reasonable prices more

A relaxed environment, A nice staff, and not to mention great hair services 1/2/2007

Salon Soca is a very good salon.\r My mom gets her hair colored there and i get my hair cut there.\r I am 10 yrs old, yes i know what you're thinking: ""what would you know about salons?""\r well, i have been to alot of salons, and none of them were as nice as this one.its clean, very nice interior decorating, they sell aveda hair products, which are expensive but very worth it.\r They have a very nice staff, who dont treat me like a 10 yr old, but who help me pick out my style, and treat me just like an adult, exept for occasionally calling me cute, which i dont mind. They are very freindly there, and they give great haircuts and hair treatments, like coloring. They even give you a complimentary neck and shoulder massage when getting your hair washed. They always have a treat and beverages that you can just go up and grab, without even asking. Overall its a very good spa with a really nice staff, a clean sanitary and very pretty inside space, and very very very great hair treatments and cuts, in which i have gotten compliments from everyone.\r Salon Soca is located on the north side of Chicago, near the webster movie theatre\r pros: great staff, great hair treatments, great overall\r cons: none, really more

Best colorist and staff 11/16/2006

No one ever guesses I am not a natural blonde. I even got my sister to go to Salon Soca (formerly J Bauers Salon). So we look the same, and it seems even more natural!!! Bridget, the owner is a master colorist, she can fix anyone's hair and she does such a good job that when my highlights grow in, I barely have roots. I get compliments on my hair color all the time and I have been coloring it for years, but until I went to Bridget it never looked natural. \r \r I get my hair cut by any of the stylists available, Tara, Nicole, Lauren, they are all so good that I never have to worry about who I get. Lauren is really good at making your hair look fancy if you have a big event that night. Nicole also does makeup. They are an Aveda salon so all the products are natural and great to use. \r \r Everyone is freindly and kind and you always feel at home. I look forward to going every other month! I highly recommend Salon Soca no matter your hair type they have a stylist for you!!! Pros: great staff Cons: parking more

Amazing and Talented Staff / Outstanding Customer Service 11/15/2006

A few years ago a friend recommended I try her colorist after I continually raved about her hair. I finally took her advice and am ever so grateful I did. Brigette, the salon owner, has colored and cut my hair for over 3 years now. \r \r Recently though, I was devastated to find out that I am highly allergic to the main chemical in permanent hair dye and did not know what to do. I shared my findings with Brigette and she helped me research safe alternatives to dying my hair. I might not have been able to continue to be her client for coloring services, yet she raced around contacting her professional organizations trying to find solutions to my allergy problems. In the end, it was decided that my best mode of action was to use the natural henna dye found at the holistic grocers. \r \r Again, Brigette stepped up and went beyond what was expected and provided awesome hair color using this natural dye. Henna is not an easy consistency to work with, but that did not deter Brigette from successfully managing it. Now, not only is my scalp in the best shape ever, but my hair color has never looked better; and it is all natural! I was really blown away by Brigette's commitment to service, and her talent as a colorist and stylist are off-the charts amazing. I will always be loyal when I find talented individuals, but Brigette?s efforts on the customer service level have given me even more reason to stay loyal. Thanks Brigette and Salon Soca! Pros: Talented staff, outstanding customer service, soothing decor & cool art work Cons: N/A more

best salon ever 11/15/2006

highly recommended!! this is the cutest salon i have ever been to in chicago. it is in a great location with natural sunlight which most salons don't have...the stations are like antique dressers, very cute and different! brigette, the owner and my colorist, is the greatest. i have been to many different salons and different colorists and i would never ever go anywhere else. she is amazing. Pros: all good more

Brilliant 11/6/2006

An inviting balance between charmingly rustic and elegantly modern, Salon Soca seems to be a concept that works on multiple levels. The reception is conscientious, the atmosphere is uplifting, and the hair 'technicians' are mindful of their client's intentions. Very nice.\r \r I'm not the type of guy that frequents spas or 'treat-yourself' salons. I would still recommend this salon: it's not pretentious or overtly effeminate, and it's very straightforward and thorough. more

OK 10/29/2006

I was excited to try this salon by reading the recommendations, but overall my experience was ok. I just wanted something different. Pros: Customer service Cons: Master stylist wasn't really a master more

Great hair cut 10/9/2006

I was visiting Chicago from NYC and decided to visit Salon Soca since it was in my friend's Lincoln Park neighborhood. Joe cut my hair, and I LOVE it. He was really friendly, easy going, he listened to what I wanted, and told me what he was doing as he did it. He styled my hair better than anyone ever has and my cut is exactly what I had wanted. I def recommend locals to go, and I sure will if I'm ever back in the area. more

Great color and cut everytime! 10/8/2006

Ask for Nicole! She consistently makes me feel like she genuinely cares for my appearance and my comfort. Each visit I've had with her so far (about 5 or 6), has been stress free and easy going and I don't expect that to change any time soon. I always feel that my new hair (and I change it a lot) suits me perfectly. I never feel pressured to buy products either, though I do once in awhile because they're awesome. Anyway, see Nicole and you won't be disappointed.\r \r p.s. She doesn't know I'm writing this either! Ha! Pros: great friendly atmosphere, the staff gets along really well Cons: parking can be an issue but the results are worth it! more

My wife sent me here and all I can say is the service was outstanding! Complimentary scalp, neck & shoulder massage with my shampoo, free touch-up's for men in between regular visits and all in a contemporary, relaxing environment in a great area. I'm definitely going back. Pros: scalp & neck massage, free touch-ups! more

So happy w/ this salon! 4/30/2006

I went to J Bauer Salon recently for a fix job. (Another salon had given me a mullet!) My stylist, Joe, was so friendly and understanding, he gave me lots of time and attention and was excellent at communicating with me so as to avoid another disastrous hair cut. The final result was glorious! After three days of crying over an awful 'do, my mood was instantly turned around. THANK YOU JOE!!! Pros: Friendly, Cute Decor more
