The only salon I trust!!! 4/22/2007

I have very thick long curly hair and Salon Santa Cruz is the only one I trust. Before I moved to Manhattan I used the same hair dresser from when I was a child so I looked around for a long time before I chose them. I'm a cook here in the city so I'm very busy and don't get to go as often as I wish but Leslie does an amazing job everytime. She listens and makes me feel comfortable especially when I can be there for two or more hours. And everytime somebody on the street has told me my hair looked beautiful. Pros: Staff, expensive is good in this case,WORTH IT.. and the cookies!!! more

Best for Curly Hair! 4/15/2007

I don't even live in New York anymore, but I still go especially to get a haircut from Leslie at Salon Santa Cruz. It's so difficult to find someone who is truly good with curly hair, but Leslie is it. She is so talented, and she makes it seem so easy! She is definitely worth making a special trip there! Pros: Leslie! more

Tamara is one great HairStylist... 2/16/2007

I had a hairstylist in Rockefeller for 4 years. When he moved to Florida, I was miserable thinking - how would I ever find a good replacement? I searched high and low in the internet to see any salons that would jump out at me that I would give a shot and see how a relaxer came out on my hair. I stumbled across reviews and site of Santa Cruz and seeing the diversity of race - I thought ?why not?? When you have a gut feeling, it?s usually right. I had that feeling when I was directed to Tamara on my first appointment. At our first meet, she didn?t ask what I am having done and just start (like most people). She asked me all about my hair history. I met her a year ago and she is the only person, besides myself who touches my hair. She is detailed, very thorough at explaining why she is doing something or why she is not doing something ? which is always for the better of your hair. I?m loyal and religious to all the things she encourages me to do. I even use all the products she uses on my hair because I (more than 100 percent) trust it is the best. I feel guilty if I use a hair dryer ever, or if I don?t wrap my hair. Because I know she really cares for my hair and I would hate to disappoint her. She also is a great person and has become more than just a stylist. We talk, we laugh, we sing ? we myspace each other. I have the best hairstylist in the world. more

Expensive, But Good 2/3/2007

About 6 months after I first moved to the city I decided it was time to move on from the barber shop haircut. After some yellow page searching, of all things, I found Salon Santa Cruz and its premier stylist, Katya. In a scene that was likely similar to a beauty school exam, I showed up with basically a shaggy mop-top and told Katya to do whatever she wanted, and she did not dissapoint. The chic and cosmopolitan haircut provided me with a confidence and self-image boost. Katya's best attribute is that she is able to apply her considerable talents within the parameters of a customer's request: basically, if you tell her you want your hair cut in a certain way, she will both honor your request while sprinkling in dashes of her own style that we have all come to know and love. The Salon itself is fairly nice too, with a friendly and relaxed staff that offers complimentary cookies, juice and sometimes even wine to its customers. Having said all this, Salon Santa Cruz is not devoid of drawbacks: primarily, it is too expensive. $60 for a men's haircut is a tad steep, and said price has caused me to get haircuts less frequently then I normally would like. The irony here of course is that if the price were lower, I would get more annual haircuts (and spend more overall money!). more

I GET STOPPED ON THE STREET AT LEAST EVERY OTHER MONTH 2/2/2007

WITH SOME ONE TELLING ME HOW GREAT MY CUT AND COLOR LOOKS!\r I have been going to Leslie for 10 years now!\r I can?t even THINK of having anyone else do my hair. She was recommended to me by a friend when I was looking for someone to help me with my then problem hair.\r Leslie really CARES about your hair, when you talk to her, she always listens with patience and concern and always offers great advice on what is, and is not possible.\r I had my hair turned from lifeless to gorgeous! I have blond hair and she makes it this beautiful color with shades of caramel highlights. It looks fantastic every time I leave the salon for 10 year now!\r .I also had very snaggly hair that never looked sleek, and after working with Leslie on a trimming schedule, my hair became healthy and now looks styled and glossy!.\r She is also very good at styling, and will get you to achieve whatever look you want, whatever your hair texture. I have sent alot of people with different kinds of hair to her over the years! She is a wonderful person as well, and I enjoy seeing her every time I go there. Thanks Leslie!\r more

Average service for Mucho Dinero 1/31/2007

I went in to Santa Cruz for a cut (long layers). My hair was already washed and blown out straight when i got there and was charged $100. That's insane. She didnt even curl the ends of my hair afterwords so that to give it a nice shape. more

good haircut for a reasonable price 1/16/2007

katya did a great job with my short hair. i thought it was uncontrollable and i could not shave it off either since i worked blue collar. but she managed it quite well. it now looks pretty good. its reasonably priced and my family& friends loved it. Pros: good service, respectful, good haircut more

Excellent place for a men's haircut 1/13/2007

I have been using Katya at Salon Santa Cruz for a number of years. She does a great job with men's hair. In addition, the staff is relaxed and friendly. The salon is not a stuffy place and there are many guys that get their hair cut there. Overall, it is a normal, great place to get a hair cut. Katya is very talented, too. Pros: Friendly, Talented Staff; Convenient Hours more

You Have to Try It!! 1/9/2007

I have been going to Salon Santa Cruz since it was located on 23rd Street. One thing is certain ---they aim to please it's customers. You can find yourself engrossed in conversations with clients you met years ago, and with whom you've developed relationships or with someone you just met.....Because at Salon Santa Cruz is not only about the haircut and the color, it's about the relationship and the sense of community and family that makes everyone feel special and unique. Salon Santa Cruz specializes in cuts and color, but the most important thing that it takes into account is YOU as the person. When you leave from the Salon, you want to come back, because you want more of whatever made you feel good during your visit to Salon Santa Cruz.....it's not just a cut....It's not just color......it's an experience that you want to relive! Pros: Great ambiance, fantastic service. Cons: Cloning is illegal....we need more Santa Cruz' more

STEVE IS THE BEST STYLIST!! 1/8/2007

I heard about the Santa Cruz salon on the Wendy Williams radio show. Me being a new mom, I wanted a new look that was fresh and managable. I came to the right place. Steve Lindsay was great from the start. He had a very friendly demeanor and very professional. He asked me what i wanted and he went to work. My hair have never looked better. He Weaved, relaxed, and cut my hair. My husband loved it. I have been a loyal customer of Steve's for the past 3 years. I am a very satisfied customer. Steve is the best. Pros: The train station is very close and the salon is very clean. Cons: It could be a little bit bigger. more

Love my Cut & Highlights 1/7/2007

I was referred to Salon Santa Cruz by a friend since I recently moved to NYC. I have long highlighted wavy hair. My stylist Katya was very helpful and recommended a great cut for me. I was also concerned about my highlights looking too light, but the color turned out great! It's not cheap, but definitely worth the results. Will be back again soon! Pros: Very experienced staff more

Simply Incredible! 1/7/2007

I travel to New York from out of state, just to get an amazing hair cut from Santa Cruz. In my opinion they provide the best service at affordable prices. I love the atmosphere and the people who work at the salon. My favorite hair stylist is definitely Katya. She is magnificent! Very professional, friendly, and absolutely knows what's right and whats wrong when it comes to hair. I highly recommend this salon! Pros: Friendly Atmosphere more

Only Salon For Me! 1/6/2007

I have been going to salon santa cruz for about a year and a half. I was nervous about going to a ""new york"" salon, but my gray hair was making me crazy and i had to do something. it started me doing some research and that is when salon santa cruz came into my life. \r \r when i called to make an appointment i was put at ease right away. after taking my hair history, my appointment was made with katya. when we met, she was so nice & friendly that i felt relaxed. the salon is pretty laid-back which also added to my calm feeling. \r \r katya talked to me & found out what i was looking for & gave me her feedback. i liked that she had alot of experience. i ended up getting a base color, hightlights & a haircut that just looked great. the cut has alot of layers in it that lays just right. i go back every six weeks or so for the base color to keep my grays away & katya lets me know when i need highlights or a haircut. there is no pressure to get services that you do not need. she also taught me how to blow-dry my hair to bring out the curls. i have alot of thick, long hair but i had no idea it was so curly! \r \r the salon also stocks some great products that are fun to check out. conditioners that smell great & gels to hold the curls, & creams to make it all shine. i get so many compliments on my hair that it is almost embarrassing. i litterally don't do anything to my hair besides washing it a few times a week. well, if it's humid, i put extra conditioner on the ends, but i don't have to brush it. it just stays looking great.\r \r another great thing this salon is the shampooing! it is not to be missed! i have watched alot of people getting their hair done here, & the stylist are very diverse as a group. no matter what you need, they have someone to take care of it. just call & ask. you'll see! Pros: caring attention & friendly enviroment Cons: having to leave when i'm done more

happy hair 1/5/2007

After years of struggling to find a good stylist, I have hit-pay dirt. Leslie from Salon Santa Cruz is great. My hair is difficult... fine, color-treated, and a tendency to frizz. I got no hairdresser ?attitude?. All I got was nice friendly service. And a great new style of course! Pros: prompt service and attention. friendly casual attitude Cons: It cost more than I expected, but I am new to NYC. BUT, they seem to be slightly less than most NYC salons. more

BEST HAIR CUT AND HIGHLIGHTS 1/5/2007

Right before new years I went to santa cruz salon for the first time and was amazed at the service I have received. My hair dresser Katya was unbelievable. I have tough hair to deal with, because it?s long, thick, coarse as well as curly and I have an extremely hard time finding hairdressers that will deal it with, and spend the time and effort into doing my hair. I have previously had many dramatic experiences and to my relief they did a wonderful job. I got a great trim, wonderful, rich highlights, and also Katya styled it beautifully and recommended a couple simple products and taught me how to get my frizzy under control in a few minutes. At the new years eve party I have received more compliments on my hair than I have ever had in my entire life! It was wealth worth the trip and the money I spent! I was glad to start off the new year with the great hair and new look. I highly recommend this salon and especially Katya! Pros: People, service, quality....many things Cons: decore more

Avoid unless you like wasting your money... 12/30/2006

I went into the salon for a trim and for some lighter highlights. Katya, my hair dresser, made my hair platinum. Thankfully i have several months till my wedding and have time to repair the damage. When i got home i nearly burst into tears thats how bad it looked. Thank God for my local hair dresser !! He was able to help me out by putting a toner on my hair. I am still not happy with how it looks (thats how light she made my hair). I plan on going next week for yet another toner. This whole process has been very, very expensive. \r Santa Cruz is totally over priced and i am extremely unhappy with what they did and i will NEVER go back there again !!!!!!!!! more

TAMARA IS SIMPLY THE BEST!!! 12/28/2006

For my first visit...I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for great 'top notch' service. From the door I was greeted by name, which is a plus based on appoinments and schedule, which is well organized, as I made an appointment 2 days prior via phone and was greeted by a friendly voice, the same voice who greeted me as i walked in. I was then welcomed by Jeffrey who took my coat and brought me to the stylist I had an appointment with..which leads to TAMARA..she is such a sweatheart and very very friendly, I felt as if I had sat in her chair before, I was extremly comfortable and felt that I was in 'good hands'. The girl who washed my hair was great as well. ( fyi, I had a color, cut, and style). The end results were AMAZING. I have not been satisfied with my hair in years!! Tamara is not only talented, but she is honest, and I highly recommend her if you are looking for a new look. I give this place a ' perfect 10'. I will definately be visiting this salon on a regular basis. Pros: Great Service, Friendly Staff, Great Products more

great cut with antonio. where did he go to? Anyone know? 12/19/2006

Really really loved my cut with Antonio. Phone service before hand always a little lacking. Was misquoted a price previously and almost fell over when I heard the price BUT it really was the best cut I've ever had. Problem is...I just called for another appointment and Antonio isn't there any more. Anyone know where he moved to? Pros: Great cut!!! Cons: Not so great atmosphere for the high price of a cut more

TAMARA IS THE BEST!!!!!!! 12/12/2006

I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A SALON THAT CAN DEAL WITH MY HAIR AND I FOUND IN SALON SANTA CRUZ. I WAS BOOKED WITH A STYLIST NAMED TAMARA. I HAVE LONG NATURAL COURSE HAIR. WHEN TAMARA AND I CONSULTED I SAW THAT SHE WAS HONEST AND VERY PROFESSIONAL WITH ME AND MY HAIR. I'VE BEEN TO OTHER SALONS WHERE THEY TREAT ME AND MY HAIR AS IF THE ONLY WAY TO TAME IT IS IF I WERE TO RELAXE IT. I DISCUSS THIS WITH TAMARA AND SHE SHOWED ME MANY WAYS TO DEAL WITH NATURAL HAIR AND WE ALSO DISCUSS PRODUCTS. SO LADIES IF YOU WANT HONESTY AND A STYLIST WHO KNOWS ABOUT YOUR HAIR ASK FOR TAMARA, SHE'S WORTH IT!!!!!!! Pros: Prices are fare and on time. oh yeah the great shampoos!!!! more

The worst service, a mediocre haircut at a very expensive price 11/25/2006

I was so excited to have my first haircut at Salon Santa Cruz --- afterall, all of the rave reviews were customer testimonials. I was quickly disappointed and the disappointment only mounted. My hairdresser was late for his own appointment, offered no apology, and while he cut my hair walked away on several occasions and without any explanation. I paid the most money I have ever paid for a haircut to be told by good friends that my hair looked no different than before. \r \r I have ethic hair (long, lots of it and course). I really thought this place was going to be different than all the others. It looks like my search for a good salon will have to continue. Cons: Expensive, poor service, lousy haircut more
