Great experience 7/24/2011

\r Arlington, VA\r 7/16/2011\r I agree with the comments on Marlene Miller and Meaza. \r \r Marlene has cut and colored my hair for over 10 years and she has never once disappointed. The color is always beautiful, the cut perfect, and I ALWAYS get compliments on my hair. Best of all, I don't need to give her anything more than general direction. I just ask her to do whatever she's inspired to do and it's always just right.\r \r As someone who has run the gamut of good and bad waxing experiences, I definitely recommend Meaza. She's easy-going, a delightful personality that puts you at ease, and she does a great job.\r \r more

SOOOOOOOOOOOO Happy !!!! 8/9/2010

I really needed a new look as I have been stuck with the same one now forever. I knew what I did not like but not really what I did and was not sure how to convey this to a hairstylist. I saw a woman in a store with a really nice cut and after I told her how nice she looked she recommended her stylist Devin Rosenthal at Salon Nuance. I thought I would give her a try since I really needed a new look. I was nervous going in but everyone was so nice I started to feel better. Devin's assistant Vicky got me a glass of wine to calm me down. Devin was very carefull during her consultation with me and asked many questions to figure out what I would be happy with and what would work with my hair and my styling ability as well as how much time I could spend styling my hair in the morning. She told me based on my answers that an angled bob would be perfect for me. I gave her the go ahead and it is perfect. It gives me volume, it is easy for me to style and it looks so cute and stylish. It is the most trendy cut I have ever had which I did not think I would be able to pull off but I love it and I am getting so many complements everyday. Devin told me as I was leaving that since it was a new style for me that I could call her anytime if I needed some help with it or had any questions I needed answered. That was so nice and put me at ease but I have not needed to call because it has been easy to care for and I can make it look great by myself. I am so happy I found Devin. She was so nice and did such a great job. Maybe now I will get up the nerve to try the highlights she recommended to me. So happy!!!! more

Disappointed by Devin 6/12/2010

Wow, I have only been this disappointed and offended by a stylist once before. I went to salon nuance in lieu of my normal stylist, since he's pretty booked and I really just wanted just a trim. I saw Chris several months earlier, and he did a really fantastic job, so I thought I would get a trim from him. I called and he was completely booked, but Devin was free. I had read good things about her, so I thought since they're a team, she'd be as good. What a terrible and bizarre experience! I asked primarily for thicker cut bangs and a minimal trim/dusting, which Chris and I had talked about doing the next time I came in. I briefly mentioned maybe some extra layers to add some volume, but I'm pretty handy with round brushes, so adding volume wasn't really a priority. She agreed to all of that and was otherwise nice and quite chatty, but I started getting worried when I saw how much hair she was cutting off in the front. I assumed maybe that was just the layers she was adding to the front, which I didn't ask for or want, but figured if she was as good as everyone said, maybe they would look good. Well when the cut was over, not only had she cut off 3 inches all over (definitely not a ""dusting""), thereby obliterating all the growing out I had done over the last several months, but she gave me a blunt cut in place of the long layers she mentioned earlier. Worst of all, she completely ignored my request and didn't bother cutting in any bangs! She in fact gave me the exact opposite of everything I had asked for in the beginning, without bothering to tell me any of this along the way. She then proceeded to tell me that she couldn't have cut any bangs b/c I didn't have enough hair in the front. How utterly offensive, but if there were any truth to it, I would be ok with it. However, she was in the wrong, given her husband had given me perfect bangs when I saw him in November, and I know for a fact nothing has changed between then and now. She then tried to cut in scraps of bangs that looked unpolished and just unattractive, which only made matters worse. She kept saying how she also had a long face and she didn't need bangs, so essentially insinuated that I should be happy with what she had done b/c she was. That's about the time that I took a look at my hair in the mirror, took a look at her hair in the mirror, looked back at my hair... and yes, sure enough, she had given me her own haircut. I wasn't sure whether to burst out laughing, or break down into tears. Well it was almost the latter. I was livid and nearly leapt out of the chair. I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, but to make matters worse, it somehow took nearly 15 minutes for me to pay. What a terrible hour of my life. I went home and styled my hair, to find out some of the ridiculously short layers she had cut in could actually brush forward as the bangs I wanted. Again, what was she thinking?? I just thought it was hilarious that she gave me the bangs she said she couldn't, competely unbeknownst to her. However, I'm not putting myself in a position to accidently get what I want. And I'm still pretty ticked off about how short my hair is, since I really really liked the length I had gotten it to. I'm pretty serious when it comes to my hair. I would say that if you want a great cut, Chris seems to know what he's doing. Devin, I'm definitely not so sure about. Sometimes what happens is that even great stylists get pretty egotistical after they get so many good reviews- that's what happened to my stylist in Boston. Needless to say, I will not be going back and I will not recommend this place to any of my DC friends. I remain incredibly disappointed. Pros: great wash Cons: cavalier stylist more

Five star! 11/12/2009

Devin is absolutely a five star! I get my hair done by her just for the last four months but I do already not want to think about the moment when I am leaving DC again and I have to go to someone else to get my hair done. I got three haircuts and she colored it twice. She always did a great job and I have never left her chair without feeling totally satisfied. She does great work and I highly recommend. more

Always a Great Haircut 11/2/2009

I started going to Devin several years ago when I was frustrated with my previous stylist who charged a fortune and, instead of listening to what I wanted, would try a style *he* liked and thought would look good (it often didn't). One appointment with Devin, and I was sold! She was able to give me a simple yet stylish haircut that led to dozens of compliments from my friends. When she suggested I try highlights about a year later, I was initially wary (I had never put any color in my hair before), but am so glad I listened to her advice, as she made them look totally natural (she's really a pro at this). I have been going to Devin for haircuts and highlights ever since (about 5 years now), and have been repeatedly impressed by her great instincts - she always knows how to give me the style I ask for while using her instincts and judgment to make sure what I'm asking for will work with my hair's texture and thickness (and will warn me if it won't). I highly recommend her to others who are looking for an excellent haircut at a price that is more than reasonable given the outstanding service. A really great salon!! Pros: Reasonable price & great instincts! more

My best hair experience ever. 7/11/2009

I have gone to Chris and Devin ( who are husband and wife ) and owners of Salon Nuance for about a year now. They let me switch between them so I can see either one so I can have a better chance of getting in on the date and time I need because it gives me two stylists who might be available when I need them. They are both excellent and their work not only has never let me down but every time I leave I get unbelievable complements, even from strangers in the street etc. I love what they do for my hair. They are easy going people with no attitude and are friendly. They listen and give great suggestions. They do my highlights and colour and cuts. I also love Meaza for my manicures and pedicures. They give me a glass of wine when I arrive and I am relaxed and enjoy every minute with them. The staff is friendly and I get great shampoos from the assistants. I have seen Chris doing hair extensions and he is amazing. He totally turns women into models when he is done although I have never done the extensions with him myself but I would love to one day. I give my highest recommendation and say everyone should try them just to see what they could do for you. I am sooooo happy I found Chris and Devin at Salon Nuance.
