Is this a Joke? 4/14/2008

I love barbecue. I have had many styles of barbecue. I would say Sally Jo's style is ""not good"". I can't believe people eat here. The food was terrible. I was really excited about hearing about this place and it looked like an old timey place that might be a somewhat hidden gem. After driving the the New Hell part of houston we arrived. The owner was nice enough, in a demeaning jerkk kind of way...but whatever. The menu prices were high, which is to be expected at a BBQ joint (meat is high, BBQ is labor intensive). The brisket tasted like it was boiled in garbage. It was so fatty, it was almost inedbile. The ribs were just awful. The whole time I sat there, I was like, Is this some kind of joke? Anyways, maybe we caught them on a bad day. Easily the worst BBQ I've had in houston. Makes Luthers look good. I'm sorry, but I'm just calling it how it is. Pros: The food didn't make me sick Cons: The food more

A place where everybody is a friend 11/7/2006

I have been visiting this place since I was a kid and they sponsored my swim team. The staff is always helpful and courteous and the owner is easily accesible and likes to meet all his customers. The other reviewer had it right with the catering...very affordable, check out their catering menu on their website at sallyjoscatering Pros: Service, Selection, Value Cons: No Sunday hours more

Wake Up Houston 7/19/2004

There are four Bar-B-Que places in Houston I frequent and this is on the top of my list... The Bar-B-Que sauce is one of my favorites while my wife loves their dirty rice. They are open for breakfast as well. John the, owner, bought the place from his parents some 20 plus years ago. Only place I know that you can get great food catered for about $6.00 a person! Yes I said $6.00 a person, been like that for years! It's locals that frequent this place and they've been coming here for years. So leave the Bimmer parked at home and borrow the neighbors old pickup truck and you'll feel right at home. Pros: Great Food, Breakfast, Catering more

Great Cheap Eat BBQ 1/3/2003

I found this place in my cheap eats of houston. It is small, dark, and has the feel of a old time authentic bbq joint. They serve the usual pork ribs, sausage, and beef brisket and the plates are all under $10. I found the pork ribs satisfactory but the brisket was really tender. I finished with the pecan pie which was nothing special. All in all, a joint worth checking out Pros: beef brisket, inexpensive Cons: small more
