Awesome Food. I think Phillygirl215 didn't even have a bad experience, just poor taste. The people are friendly and the cook is talented. The food is awesome and the atmosphere is calming. You start out with a light soup with noodles and mushrooms, that a salad with I think some sort of ginger dressing. Then you order the food you would like, and the cook cooks it in front of you. It smells amazing and the wait is definitely worth it. I'm full after the meal, and very satisfied. Would 1000% recommend this place to anyone. Good food >> gimmicks and jokes. He does though light the oil in the onions on fire which is why I also think Phillygirl is being over dramatic. more

First Time There 10/18/2009

Very nice friendly environment...a bit low lit, thats acceptable. Can be uncomfortable if the accomanying people are obnoxious. Not an issue if you have 8 or more peeps, less than that, you share the Hibachi yable. Very neat in my opinion...as long as no one sneezes into surface! Chef is Great! Food is fresh in quality. Original to Japanese cuisine. The dipping sauces are unique to taste. I enjoyed the meal so much. I liked the sampling of shrimp and lobster too...because someone else ordered it! Oh...gotta love the warm rags and ice cream finish! Pros: Like Home,Cozy. Cons: Creepy if you don't like sharing table... more

BEST RESTAURANT IN TOWN! 8/29/2008

i have been coming to this retaurant my entire life! My father and mother came before i was even born. Ever sence i was an infant ive enjoyed the FABULOUS food. We come everytime there is a birthday in the family, or when we just want an especially delicious dinner. the tempora is out of this world, as is the salad dressing and entrees! Ive never in 21 years had a bad expeirence! I look forward to coming to Sakura. Also the owner always has a conversation, remembering EVERYTHING you've ever told him, from previous visits!!! Pros: best food and service in town!!! Cons: looks very old from the outside more

Best. Food. Period. 6/5/2008

I am one of Ewa's newer customers as I have only been going to Sakura for about 8 years. This place has the best food you could possibly have. It is made fresh and with few ingredients. He knows how to make the flavor of the food standout. The tempura is the best there could be, and all of the sauces are truly addicting. Soup Salad Entrees and even the Ice Cream all make the meal and at a quite reasonable price as well. And to top it all off you can talk to Ewa and he remembers everything. He has people who only come twice a year and he still knows who they are and asks about family and all. He even bought my daughter a Christmas present last year. This is a true Hidden Gem in the northeast. PhillyLove215 must have no clue what good food is because I would pick this place over anywhere else in philly any night of the week. Pros: Great Food, Great price, you won't go home hungry but you won't feel heavy either. Cons: none, PhillyLove215 has this place pegged all wrong more

GREAT FOOD GREAT PRICE FOR OVER 25 YEARS 6/5/2008

I've been going to this Restaurant for 25 years, the food is fantastic and Ewah is the best chef in town. Fact is he is too old and good. to be peoples lilttle dancing monkey while he cooks . you want people to flip shrimp and make jokes for you go to chucky cheese!! So anyone reading this review take my advise go enjoy a good, quality meal at a reasonable price. Phillylove215 your review made me sick. I'm ashamed to be from Philly with people like you representing the city I love. Pros: The best soup ,salad and the Greatest tempura Cons: If you don't come with 8 people you have to share a table, not for the shy at heart more

One of the best and oldest hibachi resturants in the Philadelphia area!!! 5/29/2008

Where do i begin with my review? Me and my wife have been coming to this place for many years and the quality of the food and service has never changed. The menu is generally short and simple from steak, seafood, and chicken as the main course which all prepared fresh in front of you. All the meals include soup, salad, rice and ice cream for desert. I ordered the filet mignon which was tender and delicious as always with a side of shrimp tempura. The chef was very friendly and doesn't depend on gimmicks like the usual cliche typical hibachi joints with shrimp flinging and all that bs. I suggest taking your date for a nice and intimate dinner. It is byob. Pros: Quality food and service Cons: small menu more

Boring Hibachi Chef 2/20/2008

Valentines Day 5 of our friends and 3 of our kids(9 all together) decided to enjoy a dinner at this so-called Japanese Hibachi grille. BAD IDEA!!! There was 1 waitress who was very nice and as helpful as she could be. 1 Hibachi chef who was NOT entertaining at all!!! No tricks, no jokes we wouldn't have even known his name if one of the girls wouldn't have asked him. Last but not least the food.....ugh...started off with a soup that was okay and a salad with crappy salad dressing that was horrible then the dinner begins with a plate full of onions, a few veggies along with about a pound of bean sprouts. I had the filet and shrimp... filet wasn't too bad but, the shrimp had a very fishy taste and smell, fishier than usual!!! I really think this place needs to step it up a lot because the NorthEast really needs some nice restaurants with culture and excitement to make it a bit more interesting!!! Pros: waitress was nice enough Cons: boring chef, below average food more

Best Japanese hibachi restaurant in the area! 3/26/2007

I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. Sakura is small and intimate with a great atmosphere and wonderful food. The service is always top notch and the prices are very reasonable. Their sauces and dressings are some of the best I've ever had, and each item on the menu is awesome. This is the perfect restaurant to bring your family and friends to and support the type of hard working family that makes Philadelphia the great city it is. Pros: Great food, great prices, great service Cons: Not the best location, but easy to find more

Best Chinese/Japanese food anywhere! 8/11/2006

Excellent customer service, the owner is so sweet and will take the time out to speak with you as long as you want. They make their own sauces on site, and I have never had such great food! The restaurant is deceiving from the outside, it looks pretty bad, but inside is great, and the food is better!!!!! Pros: Delicious food Cons: The outside of the restaurant looks kind of run down more

Great Food, Great Owner 11/9/2005

This restaurant is one of the best around. It is a hidden gem. I also have been a customer since childhood. I now go with my family and my friends. I love introducing people to this terrific place. The food (especially the tempura) is top notch. You get so much for your money and you are never hungry when you leave. Whenever I need a guaranteed great dinner I go to Sakura. Make sure to make reservations because it is a small restaurant. Pros: Food, Owner, atmosphere more

Prepare to be Amazed 11/6/2002

This is the best steak house I have ever been to! I've been a regular customer my entire life, as my parents frequented the restaurant often, and have never had bad food. The salad dressing is the best I've ever tasted, the tempura is fantastic, and the entrees are incredible! I am constantly amazed at the chef's skill with the grill, which just happens to be in the middle of the table. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! Pros: Delicious food, Friendly staff, Amazing preparation Cons: Small more
