Books are a little overpriced, but still a good place... 8/9/2005

A not-for-profit thrift store, Safe Space makes money for the Victims of Domestic Abuse Shelter in Franklin County. The good thing about the store is that it is very clean and organized, but the bad thing is that you can find items in the store that have been there literally for months. Books are a little expensive—paperbacks fifty-cents, hardbacks a dollar—but you can get kids’ books for a quarter each, and the selection of books is actually pretty good. The women’s clothing section is about twice the size of the men’s, and I don’t think I’ve ever found a pair of decent shoes that fit me. But the clothes are pretty good, probably because they don’t take clothes donations that are out of season or the slightest bit worn or frayed. You will probably find better thrift stores in Raleigh, but Safe Space will do in a pinch. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. more
