My gf and I were looking for some good entertainment for our one night in NYC and chose S.O.B's because it was a Samba Night. Free live show with reservation before 8, couldn't pass that up. Immediately accessible once out of the Houston St. T stop, we rushed inside to shelter ourselves from horizontal rain.
You couldn't ask for better value. The food was tasty and affordable at $15-25/plate, the sangria was delicious, and the place wasn't too crowded that night (probably due to weather), though it filled in later. Then the 13-member band Ogans came on and performed nearly two hours of rousing samba numbers. During this show sometimes costumed dancers would surprise the audience and dance for certain songs. Really, it was quite a time.
I recommend getting there early to get a good view of the stage, as well as ordering sangria and the 'volcano' chocolate cake.
Pros: atmosphere, sangria, great live music
Cons: n/a
