Best

I can't say enough about Ruth's, as it has been through some remodels in the past 'few' years but has maintained the original feel. Ruth's has a lot of atmosphere and history, I'...

Worst

The food is generally quite good, but the service only rarely is up to par.

to crowded 7/6/2003

I loved the patio and the view, the food was great also! The place was to small and no room for the wait staff to move around easily. The bathroom facilities were really bad for the crowd they had. In thw summer the patio holds a lot of the crowd but in the winter you are really wondering why you put yourself through this. I would like to see the bathrooms and main eating area to grow and hold the crowd that they are proud of. Pros: good food, good view, great staff Cons: to small, one restroom, rush people through more

Down Home Cooking! 4/8/2003

Ruth's is fabulous. It is away from the city, and has so much character. The food is what Grandma would whip up for dinner. The mile high biscuits are great....I so wish I could get the recipe. The lasagna, spinach omelette, and meatloaf are all great choices. To top it all off the summer patio is the best atmosphere for a great meal. My fiance and I shared our first date at Ruth's 3 years ago. Hopefully my finace and I can have our rehearsal brunch up at Ruth's. We really love this place! Pros: Consistenly Good, Ambience, Breakfast! more

A SLC Institution 1/13/2003

Breakfasts are excellent, although the omelettes are far better than the french toast (which tends to be thin, crusty, and not very ""bready""). The biscuits served with butter and jelly are a nice addition. Pros: Good Parking, Clean, Great food Cons: Busy weekends more

One of my favorites! 1/5/2003

The food is great, so is the service! I love the patio in warm weather, too! Pros: food, service, value more

The Best 12/20/2002

If I was asked to recommend a restaurant to any newcomer to Salt Lake, I would send them to Ruth's Diner. I am always amazed when people who have lived in Salt Lake for any length of time say they have not experienced Ruths. It is the perfect blend of good food, good service, mountain atmosphere and just good casual dining. It is our favorite for summer Sunday brunch--the wonderful canyon atmosphere can't be beat, but be there early (before 10 a.m) if you don't want to wait because this place is popular for a reason. One of the very few restaurants where the noise level is not an imprediment to serious or romantic conversation. Go here to relax and enjoy. Pros: Atmosphere, Quietness, Casualness Cons: Wait during peak time more

The Jekyll & Hyde dining award goes to.. 11/6/2002

Ruth's has potentially the best patio dining there is. Pair that with excellent food, decent wine, outdoor heaters and live music and it is almost the perfect dining experience, whatever time of day, especially breakfast. In all of the years I have been going to Ruth's though, only one occasion stands out as a demonstration of reasonable customer service. If the food and ambience were not so perfect, I would never go back. The experience is worth it if you have a great amount of patience, a tolerance for bad servers, and don't mind that your drinks will never be refilled. I have a long standing remark I use when I have experienced bad service: ""If I wanted to be treated this way, I would have gone to Ruth's Diner"". This is the only restaurant where horrible service does not ruin the quality food and great atmosphere. Pros: food, ambience Cons: service more

I Love This Place!!! 11/4/2002

I went to Ruth's for breakfast this morning. The omelets are absolutely the best anywhere! And what a beautiful setting!! It is just a comfortable, cozy little place with great food and friendly service. In fact, I spoke to the diner manager this morning - Karly or Kelly, I think her name was - and couldn't believe what a bright, cheerful, genuinely concerned person she is. I only mention her name because I believe such genuinely nice and thoughtful people deserve recognition. My waiter was also wonderful, but I was so distracted by the fantastic food that I failed to notice his name. It just seems that the staff is a happy, friendly bunch, and that certainly adds to the already beautiful, charming, cozy atmosphere. Great Place! I'll definitely be back! Pros: Delicious Food, Friendly Staff, Cozy atmosphere more

A hidden treasure 11/4/2002

Beautiful canyon setting. Nice patio in the summer and cozy in the winter. Service is old timey diner service and the food is better than mom's. If you haven't been to Ruth's you are missing out Pros: Canyon Setting, Great Food, Easy Parking more

Great service, Great food! 11/4/2002

Great service! Y.T. was the best. Food was exceptional! Atmosphere was great. A terrific overall experience! Pros: Service, Food, menu choices more

Great place, exceptional value 11/2/2002

Service was great! Y.T. very professional. We had sea food, Mexican, Yankee, and Italian and it was all terrific!! Great place, exceptional value Pros: service, food, menu depth Cons: a little cold more

Yummy Stuffq 11/1/2002

Beautiful scenery, great company, great food, great drink! My most favorite place in SLC! Everytime my man and I go up there, it is such a great romantic evening. more

Comical Service 10/26/2002

Bad food. Bad service. I got nothing close resembling what I ordered. At least it's far enough out of town I won't be tempted to go back. I suspect it's a gag the locals play on us out of towners. more

RAW MEAT 10/25/2002

I had heard so much about it and so we went there and how can you mess up a hamburger? Well they did! How can you mess up desert? Well they did. I will never go back there. more

Good food, bad service 10/24/2002

The food is generally quite good, but the service only rarely is up to par. more

Ruth rules! 10/17/2002

You can't go wrong at Ruth's Diner! For breakfast, lunch, or dinner the food is always fabulous and the atmosphere and history is fantastic. Great place to take out of towners since it is accessible and in a beautiful canyon. This restaurant is great during the summer. Their outdoor seating is fantastic and can't be beat. It might be hard to take little children because seating can get tight indoors. Pros: beautiful canyon, excellent atmosphere, classic and casual more

The Best Comfort Food In The Mountains 10/9/2002

Ruth's Diner definitely deserves to be close to the top if not the top. If you have a chance, diner out at Ruth's on a nice Spring day and sit outside on the patio out back during dusk. You will find birds chirping, great service, and sometimes a little music and candle light tables. Pros: Great Food, Design, Consistency more

Outdoor Pleasure 9/27/2002

The outdoor garden atmosphere makes Ruth's special. It is so relaxing...delicious and romantic too. Pros: atmosphere, good food Cons: crowded more

Delicious 8/30/2002

Delicious Food, Wonderful Atmosphere, Great Biscuits! I Absolutely hate biscuits, but I love theirs! more

An Emigration Gem 8/26/2002

The first place i ever ate when i came to Utah. And been going back there again and again ever since. For breakfast a spinich omelette has ""can't lose"" all over it if that's your fare. Biscuits are memorable as are the bearhead-shaped pancakes for the kiddies. For lunch/dinner there's lasagne and a killer chicken broiled sandwich I can never say no too... and the best dessert in the valley, hands down, goes to the Fruit Cobbler with Vanilla ice cream that has Ruth herself slobbering in 'er grave! Pros: cute trolley, great outdoor seating Cons: cramped in winter more

Great atmosphere...ok food 8/26/2002

I was really excited to try this place out. The atmosphere and story behind the place are worth the trip, but I think the food is a bit overated to be considered the best. But it's still good. It is also VERY busy...so the service ended up being slow. more
