Best

I can't say enough about Ruth's, as it has been through some remodels in the past 'few' years but has maintained the original feel. Ruth's has a lot of atmosphere and history, I'...

Worst

The food is generally quite good, but the service only rarely is up to par.

The view 7/3/2011

I have been going to Ruth's for years but other than their traditional biscuits and great patio its just not the same place i used to get sunday brunch at and this last time was the worst, I was left utterly unsatisfied at the end of the meal. We were forgotten about out on the patio by our , shall we put it spacey waitress who constantly left us waiting for our order, our drinks and even the check, if it weren't for the great view my boyfriend and I would have gotten up and left. I am sad to see the place losing its touch but the view is still spectacular. If i didn't want service I would have stayed at hoe, next time i will go to a brunch spot that gives me a little more bang for my buck on all fronts. more

Bad service...and hair. 10/16/2010

So, I was stoked to see how much vegan food was on the menu. I ordered 'Trevor's potato burrito' (I thhink that's the name of it) and I was about to take a bite when I saw a hair on my plate. It wasnt mine. I picked it up off of the plate and took a bite of the burrito. What do you know i looked where i had cut into it and I saw annother hair! Once again not mine. I ended up finding four hairs! We told the waitress and she got me a vegan burger, which I was disecting to check for hair! It really didnt taste very good either. Then the waitress got an atitude when we asked about being charged for my food. Once she was done arguing she smartly remarked 'Have a nice day.' In a snotty tone. I will not be going back, needless to say. more

Wow, more than just a diner! 2/2/2010

I can't say enough about Ruth's, as it has been through some remodels in the past 'few' years but has maintained the original feel. Ruth's has a lot of atmosphere and history, I've been eating here for a LONG time! The menu still has some of the original choices as a diner should, but don't be miss led by the 'diner' in the name as this place has some of the best cuisine around! Location, Location, Location!!! Spring and Fall will drop your jaw! On hot summer nights come early as if fills fast. Pros: Wide variety, great atmosphere Cons: Too many people know about this place! more

Expect to waste your day waiting 11/21/2009

We were so excited to go somewhere new for a celebration. There were only 5 in our group; we were told the wait would be 35-45 minutes. Understandable, its a SMALL place. After quietly waiting for ONE HOUR I asked the hostess if there was something she could do, maybe push some tables together or anything, something anything. She shrugged her shoulders and said ""Legally, no. You have to wait for the bigger tables to be done eating."" After waiting 30 more minutes I asked again, she said no and sent the owner to tell us I was rude and asked us to leave! I have NEVER been more horrified in my life! The moral of the story, if you plan to go here with more than 3 people, expect to waste your day waiting in the way because there is only a small bench to sit on and keep quiet or they will ask you to leave. Pros: Cant think of one Cons: If your party is 3 or more DO NOT GO HERE!!! more

Brunch is amazing 8/9/2009

I love the location of the diner. It is a short drive from downtown but feels so secluded. I love the ambience of the whole experience--- great food, good service, the relaxing music! No one in our group had any complaints about the food nor the service- it was perfect. The biscuits actually do live up to all the hype and the breakfast was amazing. Everything was prepared perfectly, presented well and portions were large but not overwhelming. They even had a delicious vegan breakfast burrito for my friend-- which she loved too! When we arrived at the height of brunch, we were told it would be 45 mins, but it turned out to only be 20 mins. We will definitely be going back for repeat visits! Pros: location, food, service Cons: its popular so expect a wait more

don't go for dinner 8/2/2009

went for dinner at 6:30 on a friday night and were SORELY disappointed. first off we could not eat outside unless we were at the bar, which is so dumb since we do live in a utah and it was 6:30! 75% off the charm of ruth's is eating on the patio. i ordered meatloaf which was dry, over seasoned, and really just not appetizing. i ordered a childrens meal with chicken fingers and they were so nasty that my children would not eat them. i could break them on the table and i think they were under a hot light for at least 3 hours. to top it all off we didn't get any of their famous biscuits because i guess they don't serve them at dinner. instead we got hard rolls from costco. ruths has ALWAYS been a favorite dining spot, in fact we drive 45 minutes to get there and i have to say i have no desire to return. ruth's spent 1 million dollars on remodeling and lost their taste buds. Pros: charm Cons: food quality more

Outstanding breakfast! 6/21/2009

This is a fun restaurant/diner with an interesting history. Unless you really look for it, you would never guess your sitting in the shell of a historic SLC Trolley Car. The food is outstanding, portions generous and service friendly and prompt. We've been for breakfast and lunch and I would highly recommend both. Pros: Fun ambiance, and great food more

Been Twice-Both Times were Great 3/14/2009

I've eaten twice at Ruth's Diner. First time there was just two of us for lunch. Both of us loved the food. The waitress was great, not too overbearing but made sure our drinks weren't ever too low or empty. The second time I went was with my family, a large group of about 10 of us. There was a wait of about 20-30 minutes. When our time came up for seating, we had a wonderful round table that seated all of us and our waitress was very wonderful. She described some of the platters. We all ordered a range of breakfast and lunch platters. All the food was great. The appetizer bread was amazing -it was gone before our meals came and the option to get more if we wanted. All 10 of us loved the food. Nothing was askew or ""gross"" as some people have said here. Ruth's is unique and to me I'm always up for the hour drive it takes to get to it from Utah County. Pros: Great Food, Great Service Cons: sometimes there's a wait more

Definitely not worth the wait..... 9/29/2008

A group of 10 of us went to Ruths for brunch one Sunday, of course there was the usual long 45 minute wait, which was fine. However when we were finally seated they for some reason didnt think all 10 of us wanted to sit together, the hostess had 2 tables for us on opposite sides of the restaurant patio, after telling her the seating wasnt going to work for us and some awkward standind around we literally picked up one set of the table and chairs and moved them across the restaurant to sit together. The waiter was nice but very slow, when our food was brought out he could not remember the names of the dishes let alone who they belonged to! The food was so so, there was no flavor, no spice, anything worth remembering about any dish really. When it was time to pay they informed us they could only split our tickets 3 ways, not the 5 we needed. Now I find it hard to believe that at any restaurant you can not split a ticket, if you can take orders seperately and put them in seperately then you can print out a bill with the item seperately.... I dont buy no seperating tickets for one minute! After some light complaining the waiter had us write our names next to the items we had and give him our cards so he could ring up each couple like we originally asked for. He couldnt even do that, one couples card was ran twice, the tickets didnt add up to the original total of the bll etc etc... Then the waiter proceeded to tell us ""this is why we dont split tickets"". Overall all 10 of us were unhappy with the whole experience and will probably not return. I, like many others that have reviewed do not see the extreme appeal of this restaurant. It was just one big mess from start to finish. Pros: The Biscuits and Raspberry Jam Cons: Just about everything else more

No Service 7/18/2008

We drove down from Ogden, on a saturday got there 15 min before they opened, no one else was around till 5 min before opening the doors. First to be seated, and after 4 other tables were seated and waited on more

The worst food I have had in a LONG time!!! 7/11/2008

The atmosphere at this diner is just as charming as everyone says, However the food is so aweful it doesn't taste nearly as good as the plates they serve it on! (YUCK) I went with a group of 6 adults and we all ordered different things and all of us were equally revolted with our meals. First of all they cover all of their tasteless overcooked food with the most nasty sauses, they were so bad we couldn't even begin to choke them down. They bring these hard, dry, heavy rolls to your table that would be more suitable as a door stop than something you might actualy eat. They serve this horrible rasberry cream salid dressing that does not even remotely taste like raspberry. The pot-roast had some weird flavored sause on it that just made it compleatly inedible. The raspberry chicken (one of their specialties) was as dry as a bone and also had a revolting NON raspberry sause. The pork chop was just as dry as the chicken (also with a bizarre sause) You know when a resteraunt is hideing all of their food under sause that something is wrong! There was nothing good I could say about the food here. After this meal all of us wished we had just saved the money and eaten at mcdonalds...it was that bad! Such a shame... it could be a really charming place. Pros: If you want to eat...Don't Go Here Cons: The stuff they serve here is not edible! more

Terrible Service! 5/27/2008

The food was good. That was it. It took over an hour to be seated, after watching many people go in that had come after us. Once we were finally seated the server was very rude. She didn't welcome or smile or even say hello. She did the bare minimum. We had to stop her to get anything that she had forgotten. The people in our group have all worked in the food business and it was the worst we had ever seen. I will not go back and I will never recommend this to anyone. Pros: Food Cons: Everything else. more

Best breakfast in Utah 5/18/2008

I love driving to Ruth's for Sunday morning breakfast (although it is often quite crowded and a fairly lengthy weight, it's worth it). They give you a delicious soft cakey biscuit with raspberry jam for free with your meal. My favorite breakfast item is the Crab Benedict. It's eggs benedict with crab cakes in place of english muffins and sliced tomatoes instead of ham, so delicious! Pros: Breakfast! Cons: Crowded more

In response to: ""Poor service, nasty food"" 4/6/2008

Ruth's Diner strives for nothing but excellent service & outstanding food. If you or any other customer has had an unpleasant experience, then we would like to start off with a sincere apology and a thank you for bringing it to our attention. more

Little bit of a drive but worth it 4/2/2008

My husband lives for breakfast and a friend recommended Ruths Diner. It's a little bit of a drive to get up the canyon but in the end we thought it was worth it. Loved the biscuits and hash. My eggs and sausage were average diner food but my husband is still raving over the cinnamon roll french toast. We will definitely be coming back. We visited early on a weekday.. so seating and service were no problem. Pros: biscuits! good portion and prices Cons: weird location more

Poor service, nasty food. 3/28/2008

We went here last summer and it was terrible. If I could give it a negative scoreI would. They took forever to take our order and then I couldn't even eat the food. Before our food came to the table I took my 3 year old daughter to the bathroom, well the cook was in there and had the diarreha and didn't look the door so my little girl walked in on her, she then proceded to yell at my child, it wasn't her fault the stupid women didn't lock the door. We waited outside the bathroom for the lady to leave, when she was done I never heard the faucet turn on and the sink was dry when we entered, the smell was terrible and ruined my appetite, but then the thought of her returning to cook my meal without washing her hands made me sick to my stomach. After our food arrived I asked to speak to the manager and a girl no older than 16 came to our table, she had no concern about our order being messed up and wasn't at all worried about the cook not washing her hands. Gross Gross Gross, we will never no back and never recommed them to anyone. Pros: Very pretty outdoor area Cons: terrible service, we couldn't even eat the food. more

The Eggs Benedict are Phenomenal !!!!!! 12/12/2007

I absolutley love ruth's I started going their for breakfast about 2 years ago and I never leave discouraged. more

Poor Service and Poor Food 11/14/2007

I will periodically go back to see if the food has gotten and better?.. That is still NO! Pros: Great location Cons: Food, Service is just Horrible more

Awful place to eat 10/17/2007

I've never had a good meal at Ruth's; the food is consistently undercooked and unpalatable. The wait for a table is too long, the wait staff are unhelpful and unfriendly, and I've never understood in the twelve years that I've lived here in Salt Lake why it seems to be such a popular spot. Don't bother--there are many more wonderful places to eat than this. Pros: Fantastic location Cons: Everything else more

Bad service and food 9/11/2007

Don't recommend this place. The service is poor. The food is poor. The wait is ridiculously long. Not worth the short drive. Would rather keep driving up the canyon to a better restaurant. Pros: cool patio Cons: terrible service and food more
