The omelettes are the best in town! Get there early on a weekend day. Just be prepared to take a nap after this meal!

Greasiest Food Ever!a 8/14/2008

Horribly greasy food. I ordered what was supposed to be a ""grilled chicken breast"" according to the menu. It was the healthiest looking thing on the menu, so I thought I'd take the safe route. Everything else on there chicken-wise was listed as ""breaded and fried."" Well, the ""grilled"" apparently means ""breaded and fried with extra butter."" What I got was a pile of fried chicken covered in cheese and two strips of bacon; the oil oozed out of the breast when i cut into it and left a greasy mess on my plate. The waitress said that the owner had made a mistake when he wrote ""grilled."" They took $5 off of the meal, but really should have wrote the whole thing off. I barely touched it. Oh, and their ""buttered carrots"" were dry and shriveled (obviously microwaved."" My partner's meal of crabcake (on top of breaded and fried chicken breast) tasted ""funny"" according to him. I got stomach issues immediately after getting home. Please... save yourself the trouble unless you have a cast iron stomach and a death wish. Pros: Cheap Cons: You get what you pay for...even hours later. more

Distinct Average 8/17/2007

The shame is that this place can be listed on a breakfast website (city guide aol com /pittsburgh/bestbreakfast) as one of the best. It is clearly an average to middling establishment. Everything is standard and unoffensive. I will say that our waitress completely forgot about us in between bites of her own breakfast sandwich. The ham was real good. But overall nothing extraordinary. My partner says, flatulently, ""it was alright."" Pros: Unoffensive Cons: Boringly traditional more

Crowded and Noisy 12/2/2006

I've visited the Rusty Nail on various occasions. There are two (2) issues that stand out that make this restaurant an unenjoyable experience. The place is so small that the tables are crowed together that you bump into the persons that are sitting beside you at another table. You literally can't be comfortable. Because of this, the noise is so loud and you can't help from listening to the conversations around you. The waitresses are not friendly at all! They all seem to be angry, mainly because they have to work in a hostile environment. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant if you want to come in and enjoy your meal in peace. If you don't have a headache coming into the restaurant, you will have one when you leave. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Seating and Noise more

Now 100% Smoke Free 9/29/2006

One of the previous reviewers complained about the smoke. Well, it's gone and the crowds are still here. So is all the great food and generous portions. My wife and I go there more frequently now that the air is clear of smoke. Pros: Portions and Prices Cons: Often Crowded more

worst service of my life 8/11/2006

i went in with a friend. the waitress brought us menus and got us drinks.. but she never returned to take our order. we sat there for 20 minutes. a party that came in after us and sat RIGHT next to us got their food before our order was even taken. the waitress, a young blonde... thing... had the nerve to stand by the kitchen with her arms crossed as if she had nothing to do.. more

Rusty Nail 3/14/2005

There's a reason there is a line out on the sidewalk every Saturday and Sunday morning. Their ""anytime"" breakfast is possibly the best in the city. Worth every second of the wait on a weekend morning. They have recently enforced a strict ban on smoking in this establishement now so previous reviews regarding the smoke can be disregarded...no one smokes. Highly recommended is the Chicken Salad, any of the devonshire's, and the chicken fingers - and for breakfast get the french toast combo, with pan fried hash-browns!! All the portions are enormous and you will definitely have a doggie-bag to take home. Pros: Inexpensive, Big Portions, Big menu Cons: Small dining room, crowded in AM more

greasy food! 8/8/2002

Smokey air filled the way as we tried to choke down our food. Tables too close to each other and had to walk through the kitchen to go to the john Cons: too crowded, smokey, too small of a menu more
