Overpriced, will not give you water! 4/23/2011

Last night I paid cover and bought two overpriced drinks and then went out dancing. It was so hot and stuffy that I got really thirsty. They refused to give me water! They said I had to buy a bottle for $2. I tried to reason with them, but they were pretty rude. I have never heard of a bar not giving someone water when requested. Bartender said that 7-11 did not have to give me water either ????? So weird, and such a bad policy considering how much I had already spent there and how hot it was. I will never go back. I refuse to spend another dollar there on principle. I ended up leaving, getting a cup of water from my car and walking back in with it. After that I was mad at them, but trying to have fun for my friends' sake. Still I told the Rue 13 photographer that I did not want to be in their promotional photos, but they took pictures of me anyway. Finally, my tights ripped because they snagged on splinters when I walked by their stage area. Cheap quality, overpriced, bad service. Do not recommend! more

They rip off everyone so watch your wallet. 9/16/2010

Just a warning from someone who has been constantly ripped off, they double charge everyone then never answer the phone when you call to complain. Last year I bought one beer and one shot then checked my statement and they charged me $35!!!!! I called and called and got no response but didn't file fraud since some friends of mine worked there. I went back for the first time last week and the same bartender who thinks he is something because he used to sing in a band, charged me double. I refused to pay for the drinks I didn't order, and he not only threw the tab at me, he called me a cheap c*nt. If you like being charged double and paying cover to dance with fat old people that are dressed like romy and michelle then go there. There are so many better places with the same scene I recommend going elsewhere. more

psycho bartender 1/9/2009

there are great things about Rue, the sushi is really good and the bar tender Dave has his business down to a science. There are many nice and helpful staff at Rue but that won't keep you from getting yelled at. The guy with med. length curly hair is completely nuts and kept my card til after close to argue about my tab. I told him "I'm not in a hurry" after 45 MINUTES to try to order a round. I would have spent at least another $30.00 and added a 100% tip to my tab, but no one would even look at me. Last call came around and I still didn't get a round so I tried to close my tab and after getting yelled at, I said that I wasn't in a hurry and apparently curly haired guy heard me wrong & began yelling at everyone in the bar. Screaming about a bar tab is stupid because he didn't know what would have been spent had I been able to order. Plus, don't argue with your customer because they know 100 people they will tell about their bad experience. I've been going to Rue for years and the experience has only gotten worse. Anyone who chooses to run a business in the unfortunate manner I saw tonight should be ashamed. The other employees were very nice and the music was GREAT but that dude was a complete psychopath, I will not go back to this bar under any circumstances more

Best Burlesque show every Sat. night! 1/26/2008

This is the best place to be on a Sat. night. Freshest and most delicious sushi I have found in the metro east area. And the weekly Burlesque show put on by the Albino Alley Cats is amazing! You will see numbers done on silk ribbons hanging from the ceiling to fire eating! These girls are very talented and beautiful to watch. Between dance sets the music from the dj is awesome. We always try to get Katie as our waitress because she totally rocks and takes great care of us! Try it once and you will be hooked on kittens and sushi for life!!! more

Bad service, great sushi!! 11/16/2006

The sushi was great but the service was not! Out table was dirty when we sat down. We waited a while but ended up having clean it ourselves. We also had to get our own menu and place or own order before our waitress finally came over. The place wasn't even very crowded! more

Great place in downtown STL on Washington! 3/22/2006

My bf and I went here recently on a Friday night. Lots of fun. It was an 80's theme night; I guess they have these every other Friday? Not sure. But the music was great, people were dancing, and some (who obviously knew ahead of time) were dressed in 80's gear. The only drawback was our waitress, who kind of ignored us for a while but then came back and provided good service. Not sure what happened there. The prices were standard for a downtown bar. Pros: Atmosphere, Music, People more

One of the bright spots on Washington Av 9/5/2005

While it suffers some of the pretty-crowd syndrome; Rue 13 still features good music and great sushi. The editorial review should be revised. The Savannah Club is long gone and there hasn't been a passage way between Rue 13 and Velvet for a number of years. Pros: Sushi until 2am Cons: Very White more

Drinks and sushi are great. Attractive crowd. Great place to meet trendy people. more

Trendy & Pricey 9/30/2002

Although Rue 13 is very trendy, and they do book some good music, it is not set up for a dance club. The drinks are expensive and not poured as strong as I would like. But the fact that you can get sushi until 3am makes going so worth it! Pros: Many couches to chill, Sushi served till 3am, Good House Dj's Cons: Expensive Drinks, Too Bright more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Rue 13 focuses more on lounging than dancing and uses fresh flowers, bright primary colors, and a few strategically placed mirrors to set the scene. Absent are the flashing lights and driving bass that dominate many other downtown clubs. What really sets Rue 13 apart is its sushi bar, which serves this trendiest of edibles into the wee hours. The sushi's trendiness is matched perfectly by that of the clientele. The wallets are large and the dress sizes extra small.

    The Drinks
Several wines are offered, but for a place that caters to a martini-drinking crowd, the drink list is as short as the customers' skirts. House specialties carry famous painters' names and incorporate the latest craze in beverages: high-energy concoctions like 180. Because servers vie with patrons for the Most Aloof award, go to the bar for your drink.
