Best

one of the best dive bars in the city .. places like this are becoming extenct .. catch em while you can

Worst

Sausage Factory so yeah . . . if you are a chick that is a solid 5 or 6 have fun. There are a lot of those in NYC. Knock yourself out. Have another free hot dog. Pros: Cheap ...

Free dogs and cheap beer = perf 6/8/2010

I was always pretty pleased at the price and quality of hot dogs from NYC street carts (which may say something about my dubious culinary taste), but there's one thing that can beat $1.50 dogs: free ones that aren't served to you out of a bucket of questionable water. Rudy's brings New Yorkers that and so much more in an authentic, gritty dive bar. There's no "rules" for the free dogs, but it's obviously polite to be partaking in alcoholic beverages as well and not over-do it on the food. I came with some hungry friends and they never cut us off though, and the bartender was great about making sure we had our choice of toppings. Along with getting fed for free, Rudy's lets you get drunk for really cheap as a large portion of their beer pitchers are under $10. I liked the Rudy's Blonde at a delicious and economical $7 pitcher, and also because blondes are always better than anything or anyone else. Rudy's motley, lively, and sociable crowd combined with a killer jukebox guarantees loud singing and the perfect dive bar experience. Still not convinced? Get drunk and take pictures with the giant pig, what could be more fun than that? meganinmanhattan dot com Pros: free hot dogs, really cheap beer, lively scene Cons: a little too gritty if you're not prepared more

Best Dive Bar to Die For 1/31/2010

If you're looking for a dive bar that cannot be beat, make sure that you stop by Rudy's for a few drinks. Their beer selection is vast and the prices are so hot you'll want more and more! The people that frequent this place when I've been are a mix between your after-work crowd, local construction workers and your pre-party people. The atmosphere is cool and there is usually some type of sports event on the TV. Bartenders are welcoming and definitely don't make you feel like you don't belong. One time my man and I met this English guy that talked about how he loved the USA and that people who live here that complain are losers. He was a good talker and it was nice to hear that from a foreigner. He then bought a pitcher of Stella Artois...Score! Pros: Booze, People more

Pure gold 8/28/2009

Where to begin... This place is a true dive bar in every sense of the word, and is completely awesome. They have a nice beer selection at great prices (Rudy's Blonde, not only cheap, but good - it's what I always get). The jukebox has a great selection, and the cross-section of people there is incredible - as diverse as the city itself. But what's most important is the respect that the bartenders (who've been there forever) quietly command - they're good, fast, and don't give an attitude, yet everyone who walks in knows not to mess with them. Oh, and free hot dogs. I mean, free hot dogs with beer. Does it get any better? Pros: Prices, people, jukebox, bartenders, EVERYTHING Cons: Nothing more

Great Neighborhood Bar...Incredible Prices 1/2/2009

We visited Rudy's Thanksgiving 2008 on the advice of a friend who has a business on 46th. It was awesome. The bartender greeted us immediately. The beer prices are incredible, and keep in mind you are only blocks from Times Square. It is an easy and safe walk, especially if you walk down 46th (Restaurant Row). The atmosphere is dive bar, which we loved. Everyone was friendly and having a great time. We are middle aged and some places are so young that we feel a little out of place. I can't imagine anyone ever feeling out of place in Rudy's. We will be back in July. Save a red booth for us!! Texas loves you!! Pros: Great prices, great location, great sevice Cons: Crowded and small....get to know you neighbor! more

Best dive in the hood. I've never ordered the free hotdogs, but they smell pretty good. Just don't order one with katsup and make a fool of yourself. more

Rudy's is okay. There are people that think that you have to like it, just because it is a famous dive bar! It is alright. You won't be more popular if you go. Pros: Cheap drinks for certain people Cons: Cheap drinks for certain people more

Cheapest Bar in NYC 1/5/2008

If you're like me, you love a good, cheap bar where you can get a pitcher of beer from a friendly bartender, sit down on seats that have obviously been repaired many times with duct tape, and make conversation with some locals who aren't pretentious jerks. Rudy's is that type of place. You can watch old guys drink away their pensions and meet fun young people, as well. Plus, something interesting is bound to happen and the juke box is great. Pros: cheap, fun more

One of the best bars in Manhattan 12/6/2007

Between the rocking juke box, free popcorn and hot dogs, my favorite bouncer named James, the duct-taped booths and cheap booze - this dive is one of the best bars in Manhattan... and I'm the type of Manhattanite who can be found at only the swankiest of lounges and restaurants. I hope this place never closes down! Where else would I go to ruin my $700 heels? I've never had a bad time here. Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: Could use a better TV more

  • The Scene
Rudy's is one of the last bars in Manhattan where suits, slackers and lifetime ne'er-do-wells commingle in a laid-back, beer-laden haze. It's always loud and crowded, even when the backyard "garden" is open. And when you're ready to date out of your comfy little social circle, slap on your sluttiest lipstick or your spiffiest blue jeans and head here. Chances are you'll cozy up in one of Rudy's little red banquettes with someone new before long.

    The Draw
Heated on one of those fast-food rotisseries and served with a plain white bun and a little mustard, the full-sized hot dogs are always free and always available--so long as "the hot dog guy" is behind the bar. The blackboard lists about 12 brews on tap, from Bud to Checker Cab Blonde Ale; Rudy's Red, the house brew, is dirt cheap but rather weak.
