ONE OF BEST PO'BOYS EVER !!! 3/8/2009

FABULOUS! Arrived in NOLA the day before jazzfest started in 08. Was one of the best meals we have ever had in NOLA. I am surprised to see the negative reviews. We are going to NOLA again for fest this year. Definitely headed straight to Desire for a po' boy and muffaleta. Service was not the best but they were slammed. Pros: po'boy to die for! Cons: service more

Smokey and Loud! 11/8/2008

SMOKING\r I'm staying at the Royal Sonesta right now and I'm unhappy with it. The main thing is that I'm in a non-smoking room but someone either above or next to me has been smoking non-stop for days and my entire room is filled with smoke. The walls must be really thin. They won't switch rooms for me because ""non-smoking rooms are right next to smoking rooms throughout the hotel"" and there's ""nothing they can do about it."" I don't think that's an acceptable response. Additionally, they have a plane of glass over the window so I can't open it and air the place out! \r \r LOCAITON\r It's right on Borboun Street, so if you're here to party in the cheesy bars, you might like the location. I liked seeing Bourbon once but there are so many great places to visit in New Orleans that I now wish my hotel were in another, less crowded and loud area of the French Quarter. We visited the Bourbon Orleans for a meeting yesterday and it was really charming!\r \r DECOR / AMBIANCE\r I also don't like the stuffiness of the hotel. It's not stuffy in the snooty sense but the frilly decor is over the top and the staff are required to wear cheesy antebellum jackets, etc. Not loving it.\r \r DESIRE OYSTER BAR\r I do like this restaurant. The service was friendly. It was clean, with cute French Bistro decor and the food was good. It looks out onto Borboun Street for good people watching.\r \r PARKING\r Expensive and extremely tight spots. Pros: Desire Oyster Bar Cons: Smokey, Loud, Frilly Decor more

Very Disapointing 9/13/2008

Very disappointing restaurant on Bourbon Street. Avoid this restaurant if you can. Service was ok, food was not good. Oysters were ok, but not for New Orleans. Crab Claws were cold and tasted like they were not cooked all the way. Cocktail sauce was the worst I had ever tasted. There was enough horseradish in the cocktail sauce for 10 people. Beers were overpriced also. Server never inquired as to the quality of our meal. I'm a French Quarter resident and can confidently say this is a tourist trap. If you want to eat on Bourbon spend a little more and go to Redfish Grill. Otherwise find a restaurant off of Bourbon. You won't be disappointed. Pros: on Bourbon Street, decent atmosphere Cons: Food more

If you want fresh oysters this is the wrong place 6/12/2007

We visited Desire on a Sunday night and about 3/4 of the tables were occupied. Everything about our experience was good with the exception of the food.\r \r - Dozen Oysters - Oysters were not fresh and did not taste good - poor quality\r - Boudin - I love Boudin but not here - Bland\r -Buffalo Oysters - What did I expect; the buffalo sauce overpowered any other flavors (I should have known better)\r - Gumbo - Bland, poor flavor - I didn't eat it\r - Shrimp Remoulade - Small shrimp served chilled (yuck) and flavorless - We sent it back\r \r I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant but will not return. We ate at ACME Oyster House 2 times on this weekend and should have eaten there this night as well. more

DON'T EAT HERE!! 1/10/2007

We love visiting New Orleans, especially for the wonderful seafood. We recently visited New Orleans and mad the misfortune of trying Desire Oyster Bar. The Waitress was horrible, we had to ask for everything ..... OVER AND OVER. Our drinks were always empty and she forgot to bring out half of our food. When the food FINALLY came, the gumbo was cold I would have asked her to heat it up but she never came back to check on us. I had ordered the fried shrimp, I wish now, I hadn't . About 30 mins after eating I had to go back to the hotel room. I was in the bathroom all day...... I'm sure I really don't need to elaborate. It was horrible. It almost ruined my New Years Eve. Luckily once I threw it all up, I was fine. Take my advice and say ,""no thanks"" to this place!! Pros: Nothing Cons: EVERYTHING more

I stay there everytime I am in N.O. 10/14/2005

The best hotel. I pay $389 a night for a week, for a reason and go twice a year. it's worth the price & I 've paid $995 a night in chicago, and got far far less in cultures/flavor/fun and luxury. What you do is get on the Conti side of the hotel. That way you can still be close to bourbon, and be a part of it but not that close. Conti has the flavor also, such as one time I was sitting on the balcony in the morning and people just come up and start singing to you for no special reason - how cool. If you stay right on Bourbon, in which I did the first time - bring earplugs to tune out noise. You pay for the location - not luxury. Although it is luxury in the lobby. Hope this helps. Pros: managers are helpful, security, location Cons: bourbon st loud more

Beware of the Renovation! 7/20/2003

The hotel was in a great location and the rooms were average. Our problem was the construction and renovation of the hotel. There was constant drilling and hammering all day. We booked our rooms several months in advance and we were right next door to the construction. We were not verbally warned that we would be next door to the work. When we approached the managers about the problem an apology was their only solution. This construction work is 7 days a week..............this took place on a Saturday. Pros: Great Location, Average Rooms Cons: Construction more

Great hotel 2/25/2003

I've stayed in N. O. many times. This is a special spot in many ways. It's got the ""action"" of Bourbon St if you're into that, but once you step into the lobby, you're transported into an elegant hotel with a gorgeous courtyard. Clean, great service, but DO ask for an inside room (facing the courtyard rather than the street) if you're looking for a restful night. Pros: location, cleanliness, great staff Cons: noisy on street side more
