bumper to bumper is not really bumper to bumper 12/30/2011

i purchased a certified car and brought it back to Rod Easta couple week after purchase because the tire pressure light was on. i wasw told that it was just the change in temperature that caused it. they did find a headlight out and replaced it. i continued to have air pressure problems and woke up to find a flat. i called the VW road service that comes with the certified program and they came and put on the spair. they then told me that all the tires had dry rot. i took it back to Rod East and was told that the rotted tires were not covered. i was sold on the certifed plan because it covered everything bumper to bumper except for normal wear. the used car manager said that bumper to bumper didn’t really mean “bumper to bumper.” i have only had the car 6 weeks i do not agree that a car should be called certified when it was sold with life safety issues. i promptly left the dealer and had to purchas new tires to insure my familys safety. the 112 point check lists the tires as being one of the points looked at. Service manager was very polite and went to talk to the used sales manager. he came back and said they would not cover it and took me immedialty to see him. he slipped out knowing i was coming and was gone for over half an hour. he was rude and pretty much told me that i should have checked the tires closer before i bought it. i told him that i thought that was what they did to make it a certified vehicle. Certified pre-owned buyers BEWARE of this dealer.\r \r more

Rod Eeast VW 6/14/2011

I have been buying VW's from Rod east since 1999. I have seen some of the negative comments about the service department. I will tell you that the Service Dept. at Rod East has changed. They get your car in and out as fast as they can and they are up front with you on the costs before they start. They do a good job. Go to the other SA VW dealer's part's dept. ands ask for something more than oil filters and spark plugs. Chances are high that they don't have them, but they will get them for you, they don't tell you but they usually get them from Rod East. Rod East VW has changed for the much better. The other VW dealer is out to sell as many cars as quickly as possible. They don't really know VW's at all. Their bread and butter is Chevy's, and all of their other brand dealerships, are just a sideline for the $. Can't blame them for that. more

Rod East Volkswagen is the best place to buy a new or used car in San Antonio. more

Rod East VW deserves a ZERO star-rating 3/27/2011

The ""one"" star rating is ONLY because this site won't accept a ""zero"" star rating, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!\r \r First of all, my wife and I are both Active Duty Captains in the military; she's in the Army, and I'm in the AF. Secondly, we are cash-paying customers, NOT in need of financing. However, in order to test drive a car at Rod East VW in San Antonio, TX, the salesman insisted that we either put a $500 deposit on the car we were attempting to test drive, or submit an application to the finance department so they could pull a credit report... NEITHER of which I find ethical or would ever do before deciding on a car, or dealer, to give my business to. Needless to say, Rod East VW of San Antonio lost the business of cash-paying customers and gained a bad reputation that'll be spread amongst two large military circles of friends and professionals.\r more

Dishonest Dealer 3/7/2011

When I bougt my Jetta TDI new I was NOT told:\r \r 1) i could only get oil changed at dealership at $75.00 per oil change\r \r 2) to get a simple oil change I had to make a reservations weeks in advance \r \r 3) that the car body had been pretty extensively damaged during shipping or test drives. This was revealed to me by a independent body shop.\r \r I would never do business with these people. Go toe Ancira if you want a VW (i have no affilliation with Ancira, but they have to be better than Rod East) more

Can not be Trusted 10/29/2009

If I could rate zero stars I would! About a week ago my Beetle was running badly so I brought it in so Rod East VW could fix it. I dropped it off after scheduling an appointment and they said ""we'll call you this afternoon."" They called around 4 pm and said they might need to keep it because they could't figure it out yet. After not receiving a call I assumed they did in fact need to keep it. The next day they still hadn't called so I called them and they said they still don't know and need it over the weekend. Monday the team service manager called me and said it seems to be the ESS (which we replaced a month ago) and he had to put a new one on and it would cost $357, $90 diagnostic fee and for the part and some labor. I told him the ESS we had on it was new and under warranty through them. He said he couldnt find the receipt in their system so i had to bring our copy in.. i said thats fine, we kept it. I go to pick my mom up cause i have her car and we head there.. i call to let them know ill be there in 30min so i can get my car since he told me its fixed he calls me right back telling me not to come bc he took it for a test drive and it still runs bad and they still need to work on it. so tuesday comes along and the same team service mgr called me back and said they dont know what they did but its miraculously driving better he said they much have hit something or knocked it loose cause they dont know whats wrong just know its better now,but it still needs major repair.... but they dont know what kind of repair so wednesday morning i fax over the receipt i had and he called me and said its now only going cost $120 cause they replaced 2 things without asking me 1st but i paid because i needed them anyways... and he stressed that hes giving us a major deal bc they spent lots of time on this car even though he told us he had to keep pulling the guy off cause they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it and needed to get other work done and completed... so we go to pick up the car and pay.. get in my car to leave... everything is reset in it and i had NO gas.. barely enough to make it to austin highway my airbag light was on so i pull in to get gas... i fill up go to work when i get out i turn the car off and try to lock it my keyless entry doesnt work and my alarm doesnt work so i have to do it by hand... and the tumbler goes in complete circles!!!! when its supposed to stop to lock and unlock... finally i get it to lock and go into work when its time to leave i unlock it manually and try to start it.. the battery is dead (flash back... when he called to give me the price he told me my battery was week and i needed a new one, i told him the battery i had in there never gave me a problem and was pretty new) so im sitting there my car wont start.. i finally crank crank and crank and it starts i go straight home and call the GM telling him how i felt... he had the service mgr call me back and he told me that he will have a tow truck come get my car and bring it back and they will fix what was broken.. i asked how much that will cost and he said well if its something we messed up, nothing.. but if its something else that is causing it to mess up then he would call with an estimate and let me know.. well i agreed and then called later to tell him never mind i dont trust them enough.. it was to big of a risk for me to take cause right before we went out to go look at my car and when we pops the hood there is the cover to my engine missing and the cover that holds the battery missing.... and it wouldnt start this morning. I called to talk to the GM again to let him know what is going on i left a message and he never called me back. SO i went up there to get my parts which they just so happened to have sitting in the back. They were very rude and short with me.. i just got my parts and left, i was tired of being lied to and conned. Pros: Absolutely no Pros Cons: Too many to list!!! more

Rod East Rip-Offs! 10/23/2009

I'm a police officer and have been for 8 years. My 2003 VW Jetta broke down with clutch problems recently. Enabled, so I towed my vehicle to Rod East Volkswagen expecting fast friendly service. NOPE! The service managers told me in order to just diagnose the problem it would cost me $650.00. Yeah! Not $65.00 ...$650.00! In addition, they tried to swindle me into a brand new clutch assembly at $2000.00 for a total of $3200.00! Fortunately I am not a sucker. I called a couple VW specialists and found another certified specialist. I told Rod East that I was taking my vehicle to a different location. ROD EAST intentionally avoided me. They would not give me my vehicle and continued to stall. Not going to lose this battle I called the head manager and ordered him to release my vehicle. Furthermore, I personally spoke with another service manager there and he said, ""Yeah, we over charge people all the time."" He then said, ""I'd recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else."" Eventually they released my vehicle and I spent a total of $750.00 replacing the clutch and was NOT CHARGED $650.00 like Rod East wanted. \r In summary, Rod East Volkswagen is nothing more than thieves and liars and please take heed when dealing with them. I feel sorry for the countless number of victims that they have preyed on and already conned and swindled. I hope this review will warn those to come. Pros: No Pros. Only Cons! Cons: They rip you off! Take heed! more

Really Unprofessional 8/29/2009

My husband and I wanted to test drive a new sedan. We were approached by a very young and very unprofessional sales person who made us wait a long time to drive the car as well as asking up all kinds of information about our trade-in without us even test driving. We walked away. Since there are only two dealerships in town that sell Volkswagen, I guess the other one will get my business! Cons: Unprofessional Sales People and Management more
