Rockefeller Center 6/25/2006

Once or twice a year I try to come with my kids to the Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink and go skating around the rink. It is a fun way to spend the day and I get to bond with my kids. It's a lot of fun to go skating we all have a good time. When we are done we give our legs a rest and watch the other skaters. Then we get something to eat. more

Crowded. 5/28/2006

While this is an incredibly cool place to go ice skating that's generally open long past what should be the end of the season, realize this rink is both very small and very crowded and that at peak times there will be long waits to get on the ice. The good news is they have seriously discounted skating during the weekdays towards the end of the season, and the ice has far less traffic then, so try it after Christmas. more

New York moment 3/21/2006

A must do for native New Yorkers and visitors alike. Get your skates on and glide across the ice like a movie star. Pretend you are in the movies and the spot light is on you. Look up at the lights and crowds looking down on you. It is truly a magical place to skate. It will be something that you will remember for a long time. more

You have not lived till you have Skated here! 2/22/2006

One of the "must dos" for every native New Yorker is to skate at this rink, in the evening, under "The Tree" when it snows in NYC. This has got to be the most romantic setting in the city, and while it is costly to rent scates and might even hurt the first few times you fall, there is no experience like it for a couple in NYC. Take your honey, whether you skate or not, down to the rink in the snow at least once. You can stand up top and watch, and snuggle warmly in the shadow of The Tree and enjoy the lights and the laughter and the music. A "must do" item for anyone visiting NYC. more

Good location 12/24/2005

It located at the Rockefeller Center so that becomes a quintessential New York City winter experience. They have a seasonal price thus it is more expensive during holiday time. You will be charged by sessions for an hour and a half each so be sure enter at the beginning of the session. The skating field can only host 150 people and not accept any reservations. The skate rental is available. more

Ice Skating 10/30/2005

I can't even begin to count how many times the Rockefeller Ice Skating Rink has been used in movies. Mostly romantic movies. It's that popular. It's a total New York landmark up there with the Stature of Liberty and Times Square. The ice skating rink is huge although you won't be able to tell since it's often so packed that if you make it on to the ice you will be bumping to people. more

Ice skating 10/15/2005

I love to come here around Christmas time. They have this big Christmas tree all lit up and you see ice skaters skating around the rink. Around that time and especially on weekends the rink gets rather crowded so it's hard to navigate around the rink. If you are not comfortable skating or have never done it before you can pay an instructor to give you a few lessons. more

Oh so much fun and oh so touristy 10/6/2005

Sure, you're in New York and it's the Christmas Season. You've seen the windows in Saks and Bloomingdales. And the tree has just been lit - what are you going to do? Of course go skating! People are more than willing to pay whatever it costs (not cheap) to skate in the center of the universe. And it's fun! Even for a native New Yorker, non-skater. I highly recommend it! It's a lot of fun with friends or on a date! more

Go early and enjoy the sights 8/3/2005

It is expensive to skate here but come on, you have to do it at least once in your life. The area is small and you have to watch out for kids and inexperienced skaters, but it is very fun to be skating in the open air with all the Rockefeller Buildings surrounding you. Take plenty of pictures. It starts early October - go early and avoid the crowds because right around Christmas it is a mob scene. more
