Great 12/11/2010

Stopped by here to celebrate with some friends. This is a spacious and lively place. Upon entering, the place smells entirely of beer. There are two sections here, the front is where the bar is, with some small booths and scattered tables. It is really crowded in this section, where most of the customers are young twenty-somethings from the nearby AI college or young downtown professionals. Since it is so crowded, if you are sitting in the very back tables, it is a lot harder to get the waiters attention, so it's a good idea to just go up to the bar and order drinks by yourself, otherwise you'll have to wait at least 15 -20 minutes before the waiter even gets within hearing range. The other section of the place is a lot quieter and less crowded. Pass the bar is the more restaurant-like area where you can have a nice quiet meal. There are several large booths and some long tables. The service in this section was a lot more attentive and quick. The young blond waitress was lovely, outgoing and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and of course the beer was excellent as well. I definitely would come back here again. more

Great beer and great food by a caring staff. Previous reviewer knows nothing about Health Dept. inspections and how food can make you ill. I am a regular diner and have nothing but positive comments to make about Rock Bottom and their staff especially the night bartenders. Pros: beer and food Cons: parking more

Manager did not care that their food made us sick 2/18/2008

My husband and I were at Rock Bottom Ale in Minneapolis last night for dinner. The food was very good going down... unfortunately, it was not so great coming back up. Both my husband and I were ill at both ends within three hours of our dinner. I called the restaurant today and I spoke with a manager named Jim who stated it couldn't possibly be their food and he was not willing to even take a look into it. I sincerely hope no one gets ill at the restaurant today as a result of Jim's apathetic attitude. I didn't ask for a refund or anything, since the purpose of my call was not to get something free. It was to let them know that their food is a potential health hazard and they may want to think about checking temps in their refrigerators, etc. However, the manager did not even offer any compensation. He told me he would not do anything for us unless we went to the doctor and our doctors could find something that PROVED that the sickness was a result of their food. The manager was less than caring and made it clear that he had no intention of following up on the complaint. He insisted there was nothing wrong with the food. What the manager doesn't realize is that even though the food may be fine, illness can be caused by a food handler simply forgetting to wash his/her hands after using the bathroom. Again, I was not expecting to be reimbursed for my meal (although it would have been nice), but a simple ""I'll check into it-- thank you for calling and letting us know. Hopefully it wasn't our food, but I will check into it..."" would have sufficed for me. Rather, Jim gave plenty of attitude and was very rude. I would have thought he would've been thankful that my first call was to the restaurant to alert them before reporting the restaurant to the Department of Health, but I suppose that is the route that I will have to take since Jim and Rock Bottom Ale both do not seem to care about their patron's safety. Pros: The beer is very good and very smooth, food tasted good Cons: Food made us ill more

Great atmosphere, horrible service 9/30/2005

My friends & I went here for drink 2 weeks ago, the drinks were a little pricey, but the appetizers were excellent. The waitress was by far the worst we've ever encountered. She stopped by our table so many times to ask if we needed anything else & if we said no, she copped an attitude. We felt pressured to keep ordering drinks like she was trying to get us to spend money or leave - even though there were plenty open tables. At night's end, she gave us our bill & even though we marked whom had what, she told us we had to add each person's total up separately...which I have NEVER, EVER been asked to do, especially not in Minneapolis. Having been close to 40, you'd think this woman would've had manners. The manager apologized for the terrible waittress, but seemed a little disinterested in the complaint. Pros: food, atmosphere, drink&food selection Cons: SERVICE, a little expensive more

AWESOME 5/6/2004

This place Rocks For Happy Hour food and drinks. JOIN THE MUG CLUB... it is free. You get a card which allows you to buy drinks at a big discount to normal, and it is valid all the time. The micro brews are great! This is definitely my favourite place to drink downtown (Some of the waiters, however are VERY rude.... ) more

Disappointed 3/25/2004

We go for drinks and occasionally food at Rock Bottom at least once every two weeks. Up until our last visit, we have loved it. Great drinks, plenty of bar seating, good food. We normally sit in the bar. However, on our last visit we sat in the restaurant and had a very rude, patronizing waiter who forgot drinks, mixed up 3 of 4 food orders, and neglected to check on us once he had served the food. After paying the bill, two members of our party noticed him count the cash, turn around, and say something rude in our direction. Very disappointed by the service. Pros: lots of bar seating, good food more

Rock Bottom Rocks 1/12/2003

Go for the sampler first off. It is a great deal and you get a feel for what Rock Bottom has to offer. Their pale ale is fantastic. Pros: Happy Hour, Freshly Brewed Beer, Samples of Beer Cons: Parking price, Crowded bar sometimes more

Great Bar Food 7/31/2002

I'm normally not a big fan of chain restaurants but I gotta say, my experience at Rock Bottom was top notch. We sat at a nice high top table past the pool tables and had a very personable server. The drinks were good, although they charged us $.50 for the ""rocks"" in our jameson. However, the food is what sets this bar apart. Rock Bottom has the best bar food in town. Our group had a salad, pizza, pasta and meatloaf and as far as I could tell, everyone was pleased. The Spinach Salad was excellent. The food isn't cheap but you are getting what you pay for. Not the place to go for people watching since everyone is pretty ""normal"" but the food and drinks were very good. Pros: Menu, Location, Pool Tables Cons: Parking, Price more

Beer 7/26/2002

You can't go wrong with the beer at Rock Bottom. Home brewed and crafted excellently from an experienced Brew Master. If you really like it, join the mug club and get a giant beer for happy hour price anytime. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the crowd is mixed with theater goers, business people and the regular joe. They also have one of the largest selections of scotch and whiskey to go with a cigar from their humidor. If you aren't into just sitting, they have pool hall in the back that has been voted several times the ""best pool hall in Minneapolis"". With all of this entertainment and options, how could you go wrong? Pros: atmosphere, beer, food Cons: crowded 6-8 more

What a Blast!! 7/20/2002

With the Orpheum directly across the street, this is the perfect place to spend some quality (read FUN) pre-concert time! I was very pleasantly surprised at the excellent selection of wines by the glass (considering it IS a brewery...) and the menu was loaded with creative and bountiful food choices (not just the standard wings and potato skins)! Also, the service was attentive, attractive, knowledgable and helpful without being overwhelming. While the concerteers were gaining frenzied momentum these guys handled the happy crowds in a friendly & timely manner...excellent service and product!! Will definitly hit again when in Minneapolis! Pros: attentive service, friendly crowd, excellent selections more
