Dining with a winter view 1/30/2007

The rink or the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center usually steals the glory from this infamous tourist spot, but the concourse below offers a great dining option. Rock Center Cafe has a total panorama view of the ice skating rink, so before or after your skate you can stop by for a meal. The mixed greens salad with cranberries and goat cheese is excellent. A toasted slice of bread comes slathered with the cheese and the dressing on the salad is light and not overpowering. I also sampled with fired calamari, and it wasn't saturated with oil or overly crispy like some versions can be. You could actually taste the seasoning in the bread crumbs. My entrée was a baked chicken breast with carrots, currants and other seasonings. The dessert was by far the most amazing. I had cheesecake - a HUGE piece! - that was served with raspberries. I tried my friend's chocolate mousse ball/mound thing and it was incredible. It was covered in dark chocolate sauce to the combo of bitter and sweet was amazing and so rich. I could only eat a few bites. The restaurant provides a good meal and a great opportunity to watch everyone ice skate on the rink while still being warm. more

Love the Rink Bar! 8/31/2005

Ive dined here on a few occasions but more often I would stop in for a drink or two after work. The food here has always been pretty good without much of disapointments. During the summer, the rink bar replaces the ice skating rink. They have many drink promotions and specials during the week featuring many great Martinis They go for about $6 during happy hour from 5pm to closing! Dont forget to munch on something prior or on appetizers at the bar since the drinks there are pretty much mixed on the strong side. The ambiance is elegant and classy. There are a good mix of locals and tourists during dinner hours. The tourists usually dine while the locals are pretty much enjoying their drinks. Definitely a place worthy of checking out. Having a few drinks there wont burn holes in your pockets. more

Average food and too touristy 8/30/2005

The food is just okay here but if you work around the area then it is not a bad option to have afterwork drinks particularly since there is outdoor seating. The service can be really bad at times depending on when you go. more

Romantic and elegant setting 8/3/2005

The location is the best part about this restaurant - especially in winter where you can sit by the window and watch the skaters go by at Christmastime. I loved the braised rib and prime rib. The service is good and the chairs are comfortable. Location is prime - midtown area is perfect for dinner and some sightseeing or just walking around and shopping. more
