Horrible service!! 7/20/2011

Horrible service!! I am not the kind of person who leaves comments on websites even though I go to so many places to eat. But this restaurant made me sign up to leave the reviews. I am very disgusted with the staff's response or lack of response. The waiter was very cocky and ignorant. It was Saturday afternoon around 3 so there were only two tables(inside) including us but we had to ask several times for our waiter. It took him about 20 minutes to take our drink orders. When he finally showed up there was no apology for the long wait. We pointed this out to him but he said one short word more

Mediocre food, value well below price. Horrible wine. 6/11/2011

Mediocre food, value well below price. Horrible wine. Nice location, though, especially on a sunny weekend. more

Skip Roc Restaurant NYC 12/31/2010

I think Roc Restaurant NYC might have new owners. The food and service have gone way downhill. Bland, overpriced food, For examples: $20 drinks, $18 side of spinach and $13 side order of french fries. While an Italian restaurant, the service is rude - you'd think it was a french restaurant! We used to go here all the time, we live right down the street. If you're looking for a great meal in NYC - skip Roc Restaurant NYC and head down the street to Flor De Sol, Nobu, Tribeca Grille, or Takahachi. Roc Restaurant = Fail. more

Worst Service 2/14/2009

I went to Roc tonight with a friend to enjoy Valetine's Day. We had made reservations online and when we arrived they seemed to have no idea that we had made reservations. They promptly got us our table anyway, but after waiting patiently for our waiter to acknowledge us and take our oder 1 hour had gone by and we still had not received our appetizers. I had to bring this to our waiters attention if not we would have been sitting there all night. He had lost our order completely and we had to re-order 1 hour later. In the meantime we had a movie to catch in 30 min, so I finally spoke to the manager about our problem. So 70 min after ordering our meal our appetizers came. Which was immediately followed by our dinner and desert. The meal itself was very good, but when you have to rush it makes it unpleasant. more

great pasta 6/4/2008

I have to say it is one of the best restaurant in NYC for Pasta. They are fresh and blend with interesting flavors. Pros: pasta Cons: service more

Overpriced, over-rated 4/14/2008

I was not impressed by this place- I came for lunch on a nice afternoon, I did enjoy the outdoor seating but that's pretty much where it ended. I had the linguini frutti di mare- the mussels did not taste very fresh and the sauce did not have much flavor at all. The two small glasses of pinot grigio were overpriced and not very good either. My friend had the calamari salad, which was ok but nothing special. They didn't give us any bread plates, and I felt a bit rushed to finish my glass of wine once we were done with our meal. This place charges way too much for mediocre food. Next time I know to stick w/ Il Mattone when I'm in the area Pros: Nothing terrible about the place Cons: Nothing great about the place. Over-priced. more

Really bad experience... 8/19/2007

I have been going to NY for 20 years and this is the worst dining experience ever. Service was bad, and food was bland. Management was indifferent to feedback. I was shocked by lack of attentiveness to patrons. While I understand that all restaurants have their bad nights, the owner/manager told me that my complaints were out of line. He charged me for the bad wine and food. Just a note, this was the first time I have gone to the management of a NY restaurant to complain. Extremely unprofessional and shocking for a restaurant experience. Cons: bad service, bland food, arrogant management more

Good service, mediocre food 2/1/2007

a ni$e italian restaurant 1/1/2007

went there for a first date this past saturday Pros: good service Cons: not much around to do after dinner more

Outstanding service, intriguing menu & staff went out of their way to please! 12/16/2006

I needed a last minute reservation on a Saturday night and this neighborhood restaurant was a terrific find - the staff went out of there way to help us celebrate a birthday, and the food was great. The pasta was delicious and portions are generous. The atmosphere is intimate and you get the feeling that everyone knows each other! Worth a trip downtown! Pros: Service, staff, menu Cons: tight tables more

Great atmosphere for relaxed dining experience 8/22/2006

Ate at Roc last night and loved it. Warm and friendly atmosphere as soon as you set foot in the door. Never once felt rushed, service was attentive and experienced. Every single person in the restaurant left with a smile on their face. Our portions were huge! Always a pleasant surprise. Would definitely recommend the smoked duck and asparagus salad, was absolutely delicious. The Tuna was terrific as was the Gnocchi. Our dessert was massive and very hearty! Such a simple, elegant and well managed place. Will definitely return with locals and out of towners as well. Pros: warm, friendly and attentive staff....beautifully simple decor more

Promising but questionable food preparation and poor service 8/10/2006

Roc is a delightful location but our food was really varied. The tuna was outstanding but two of us had a pasta dish with scallops and artichoke which was inedible. Artichoke leaves were thinly sliced and mixed thoughout the pasta; it was tough, fibrous and not digestable...it was impossible to separate it from the pasta. Upon choking on the artichoke we asked to send it back. This is where the service was lacking. There was no apology, no remedy; we were made to feel we were to blame. Proposing a simple alternative would have sufficed but instead they presented us with the full bill. Only upon questioning this did they remove one of the meals....nearly throwing it at us and again offering no apology. Really disappointing; will probably give it one more try but not for a while. Pros: Good Ambience and location Cons: Poor Service more

Rocco makes the difference! 8/7/2006

ROc has delicious food from traditional items on the menu to eclectic seafood specials. There is something for everyone...the food is high quality and fresh...and many specials to choose from. Dining at ROC is always a guarantee...great food and great time! Pros: Superb food and wine....fantastic service! more

The most beautiful sidewalk cafe in NYC!!! 8/7/2006

ROC is absolutely one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC.... it is a real New York experience....the service is always charming, gracious, and hospitable. The food is delicious and the wine list is superb. ROC has great energy!!! ROC is always filled with regulars, gorgeous people, and celebrities....it is a true find...ROC rocks! Pros: Great outdoor dining...fab food, amazing service, Rocco is charming...Great wine list Cons: Hopefully not everyone finds out about it! more

Not impressed 7/18/2006

Cozy space and decor, inconsistent food. My friend loved the Swordfish topped with horseradish mashed potatoes special, however I found my fish entree to be lacking. Avoid the fried calamari and zuchini app - lots of fried zuchinni and very little calamari for $13. Overall a bit pricey for the experience. Pros: Cozy, nice ambience Cons: Inconsisitent food, pricey more

Owner rocco has been in NYC since 1990 and he can treat New Yorkers with savvy attitude, . The food is great, the wine list superb. Pros: food, decor, service more

Not Happy Valentine's Day 2/14/2006

Worst meal of my life. Appetizer: scallops w/ 3 pine nuts on bed of crunchy, inedible eggplant pieces. Entree: veal piccata w soggy breading covered with sauteed, tough artichoke heart pieces served w/ tough stringy spinach. Dessert: ""cheesecake?"" similar to grocery store mix for fake cheesecake. Bore no resemblance to cheesecake. Totally tasteless. Add $15 martinis and you have the picture. I dissuaded a patron at the door from coming in. Only fun I had all night. more

Fair 7/15/2005

Overall, I was hoping for more. The food was ok, the service was ok and the bill seemed a little costly for what we got. While I would return if some of my Tribeca favorites were too crowded, the Roc is not top on my list. Biggest complaint - the pasta and sauces were just ok, and not close to great or tasty. Pros: Open tables, Friendly Cons: Ok Italian Food, Expensive wines more

  • The Scene
Roc's decor mixes high and low elaborately. It's ostensibly fine dining, but with a penchant for the gloriously kitschy; for better or worse, the ghosts of mom-and-pop joints...
