VERY IMPRESSED.\r Monday morning as I attempted to leave for work, I couldn't get into my car. The remote didn't work, nor did the key to the door. I called Ripley's and they had a wrecker pick up my car and found the battery was bad. After they replaced the battery they found the key cylinder had been damaged and they fixed that too. Thanks Ripley's for coming through again. more

This is Tommy Ripley. I am the owner of Ripley's Muffler. I am sorry to hear about your situation with the Muffler. I have attempted to respond, previously on another review site. I am a little confused too, you're right a muffler should last more than a year and although our manufacturer only guarantees their product for one year (as most manufacturers). On the rare occasion we see a muffler fail, we almost always extend beyond the one year guarantee unless there is another problem that created the failure. We pride ourselves, at Ripley's for treating the customer as we would wish to be treated. I am at the shop every day, Feel free to come by and personally discuss any issues. more

I recently took my Toyota Sequoia into Ripleys as I wanted a second opinion as I had a grinding noise that sounded as if it was coming from the front end and the first mechanic shop charged me a ""diagnostic fee"" which kind bothered me but needed to find out what it was. The first shop told me it was my front wheel bearings and gave me an outrageous etsimate to repair but ""hey -we will apply back the diagnostic fee if you have us fix it within 30 days"". When I brought it into Ripley's, they didnt charge me to look at it and come to find out, the problem was in the rear axle not the front bearings. They gave me an estimate both on cost and time it would take. They beat both - the actual cost was less than the estimate and done earlier than expected. Great shop! Will contimue to use and highly reccommend. more

I'm not sure what Shrley Q Liquor is talking about from her repairs back in May 2012 but I can tell you that I have been using Ripley's for years and found them to always be honest, reasonably priced, and meet or exceed promised timing of when vehicles will be ready. I had used Firestone in the past but found out that they were just ""part changers"" and guessing at what the problems were at my expense. I would strongly reccommend Ripley's or at least go by and give them a chance. more

took my 97 acrua here, they were very busy at time but gave me a ride to work, I ended up needing something different than expected but ended up being less expensive, since then I have taken my girlfriend's car there and got same great service. great to have a trustworthy mechanic these days. highly recommend them!!! more

Easily the best auto repair shop in Houston. Honest folks doing honest business, and willing to level with their customers. Every time I've had car issues, it's my first stop. They stick to their quotes and do quality work, and have never done me wrong through all the cars I've brought there. I think the other people on here giving them bad reviews are going off of information they're not 100% sure on, because Ripley's is the one place that won't waste your time, and gets the job done right the first time. more

RIP OFF DO NOT USE 5/18/2012

i pushed my car there due to it not starting on may14,12 just clicking when u turn the key. they call me back and said it was motor mounts pulling the battery cable i assumed they knew what was causing my car not to start they charged me $503. i picked my car up at 4:30 pm went to the grocery store got home about 6:30 car would not start again making the same clicking noise so i called them and left a msg bc they were closed i pushed my car back there and called them the next morning told them its doing the exact same thing what yall fixed was not the problem so they check it and it was the starter and that would be $289 i asked him did he check the starter the day before he said yes it tested good its no way in a few hrs i drove off the lot the starter went bad. they knew it was the starter all along and wanted o charge me more he showed me that my motor mounts had pulled my red positive battery cable i told him he was a lie because we tried to jump it multiply times over the weekend and it was not loose at all, then he told me i need a new power stern pump it was making noise i told him i just had it repaired and know about the noise know my power stern fluid is leaking and sterning wheel is hard to turn because they broke it so i could bring it up there again they need to check there mechanic i dont know if they get paid off the work they due but they are breaking and fixing uneccesay things to get people money which i did not have. im a lady i dont know to much about cars but ppl i spoke to about the stituation stated motor mounts have nothing to due with the car not starting and my engine was not shaking to pull the battery cable a loose. i found out mounts make yout whole engine shake. know i need a power stern repair again and i just had it replace but i be damn if i take it there. i prefer if you have no clue about car dont take it there bc they will rip you off. i like ripleys they had the right parts for my 1973 pontiac catalina and my 1976 amc gremlin not in stock there but they got what i needed both times quicker than i thought they would and i can just tell they did a good job both times i have a newer car i will be taking there too more

Ripley's has been in business for YEARS. I have a very hard time believing any negative review is based on fact. Tom Ripley would never take advantage of any person by overcharging. My guess is that if you ask enough questions any derogatory claim has a reasonable explanation and more than likely, the customer misunderstood something along the way. I don't think these parts quoted were in fact the same exact part. One should make sure they have their facts straight before possibly damaging the reputation of a reputable business more

Huge mark up 3/29/2011

I just want to say that I'm very upset about the last visit I had to Ripleys. I have in the past referred many people to go Ripleys, but the last time I went they tried pulling a fast one on me. I also want to say that I believe that shops should make a profit off the parts they sell. They quoted me $1225 for part. I checked with a friend at a dealership and that part has a LIST PRICE of $890. The dealer price is $569 which means that Ripleys could buy that part for around $625 - $655. So what's up with the 100% mark up. I mean come on man. Besides this I've always had great service at a reasonable price, but the other day Rodney must have been feeling a little greedy. I guess I'll be in search of a new mechanic, very sad. more

RIP OFF - AVOID 12/29/2010

RIP OFF! We purchased a muffler from them and just over a year later our check engine light came back on. We brought it back and they told us they needed to replace the muffler. They told us the muffler only had a one year warranty. We called several mechanics and all of them told us a muffler should last longer than over a year. All Ripleys told us was that the warranty was only for one year and they wanted to charge full price to put in another new one. I do not know anyone who has to replace their muffler every year. Nice try! They do not stand by their work or products! more

Through the grapevine, good business 10/30/2009

I haven't had an opportunity to stop by Ripleys yet, but I have been told by many that they are a great place to have repairs. There was some construction in that area that caused some horrible traffic, but it has since all been completed and I'm sure they are easy to get in and out. more

Drone muffler 7/1/2009

Put a droning magna flow muffler on my truck. Charged $300 Took it off the racks and did not test drive. Terrible drone. I took my truck to another place and had the muffler repalced. Called Ripleys and told them about it and that I did not bring it to them to replace beacuse they should have known how to do it right the first time...considering that is what they DO FOR A LIVING! Will not go to again Cons: overpriced and none caring more

Excellent and Quick Service! 2/9/2009

I was in and out of Ripley's the same day. I got a reasonable price for what they did and they checked and double checked everything was working perfectly. So far so good and I recommend this muffler shop to everyone. more
