Horrible haircut 10/2/2013

I had the guy with salt and pepper hair, pushed up in the front. He didn't do what I asked him and gave me an awful hair cut. Butchered my hairline, gave a terrible fade and the top of my head is completely uneven. Wouldn't recommend him, or the place to anyone. more

Still a great haircut 6/22/2013

My Dad went there since it was first open, then me, then my kids. I stopped in for a trim early June 2013 after being away for 25yrs. It is still a great standard to judge real barbershops by. Can't beat the hot lather trim either. more

Great Cut - Fair Price 11/30/2011

Where perhaps a hundred and more businesses have come and gone in downtown State College, Rinaldo's continues as a reliable place to get a reasonably priced cut, with competent staff and a great owner, Becky. Rinaldo's endures because it offers a reliable service that keeps bringing students and townies back, including families with young boys coming for their first haircut. Recommended. more

Warm Conversation 11/9/2010

Great haircust, all barbers will chat with you if your in the mood to talk, they do a great job for me and my whole family for 10 years. Nice work Rinaldo's! The barber always comes around looks you in the eye and discusses what will be done that day with interest. more

Very Uncomfortable 10/27/2009

As soon as I walked in I started to feel awkward. There were 4 people cutting hair and the place was dead silent. No one said a word to my friend and I until it was my turn to have my hair hacked. My haircut consisted of clipping the sides carelessly and then deciding random places to cut on top with scissors. Finally the lady cutting my hair pulled out a strait edge, which scared the hell out of me, and began shaving the back of my neck. Some how she managed to mess everything up. My buddy who planned on getting a cut decided not to, after watching what happened to me. If you want a patchy haircut in the most uncomfortable environment north of Antarctica this is the place for you. more

You wont find a better haircut or better people anywhere. Rinaldo's is the benchmark. more

The best barber shop in State College 1/24/2009

I have been going to Rinaldo's Barber Shop for more than 10 years. When I first arrived in State College I tried several hair salons and was consistently disappointed - they always washed my hair (why? I wanted a hair CUT), tried to sell me expensive hair products and consistently did a bad job. Then I discovered Rinaldo's and have been going there ever since. Each time I get an incredibly good haircut. The customers are a cross-section of the State College population - students, workers and professionals and the staff cut any style of hair. This is a professional barber shop. The staff proudly call themselves barbers, not stylists or beauticians. I was shocked when I read the bad reviews. There must be a reason why the Penn State University president gets his hair cut there every two weeks. The same applies to the mayor of State College and countless other public people who need to look good in front of audiences and TV cameras (this information is easily verified) And of course that's the reason why I go there. Tips: Rinaldo's is a walk-in store that doesn't make appointments. This is a university town with a large student population that stays up late and so gets up late - so go to Rinaldo's early in the morning at opening time. Your wait will be minimum. As a quality business, the shop has a stable staff, not rapidly turning over temporary employees. Christy and Becky (the owner) are superb barbers and will be there when you read this review many years hence. more

Great Shop with alot of character 12/4/2008

This shop has been in existence since the 20's with everything still in tact. Not only did I get a great haircut, but a history lesson as well. more

sometimes you can look at a shop and know exactly what you're getting. This place was obviously established in or around the 1950s, and it hasn't made any efforts to "follow the fads" -- or even identify them. flat tops all around! Nice enough guys working there, tho. more

Rinaldo's Barber Shop 8/19/2005

After walking past this shop many times and seeing the long lines I decided to check it out. I was very disappointed, I think they basically have one haircut that they do, shaved on the sides flat on top. By not listening to what I wanted which is very important I believe at a barbershop I can't recommend Rinaldo's to others. more

pretty bad really 8/11/2005

Granted this is a barber shop, so expectations should be low. But when the person sitting next to you, and I mean right next to you, asks for "the airforce," it is best that you walk out, smock and all, even if your haircut is only half done. This place costs $15, and I wouldn't get cut here if it was free. I have had better haircuts at barber schools while I was in college. The treatment isn't so great either, they want to sit you, mow you, and ship you out so that the next customer can take a seat. Avoid this place. more
