Thank you for the best moving experience we have ever had, and we've had more than enough experience of moving, including 7 major and minor moves in the last 5 years. We've used o...

Great Service 9/15/2010

Small, inexpensive hotel in a central location, great service. Updated older property. more

A for customer service 9/13/2010

Quaint but a little dated. Service and staff were very friendly and helpful. A for customer service. more

Convenient Location 9/2/2010

Stayed 7 nights for business. Very convenience location from airport by BART. Hotel welcomed me and accepted early check in. Room was spacious and clean enough. Only problem was the heating. It came on only one time in the night and I couldn’t adjust my room temperature. Internet access was easy with the room’s desk had a power outlet and a phone jack. I worried about the area as I saw lots of homeless people but I didn’t have any problems with them. I tried to go back to the hotel before it got too dark. more

great hotel 8/26/2010

If you need to be in San Francisco, enjoy public transportation and the hubbub of a big city, don’t need conference rooms or room service, Renoir is a great hotel. more

Very Helpful 8/24/2010

Enjoyed the stay, nice hotel. Breakfest was great! Bell hop/ parking guy was very helpful. more

helpful employees 8/20/2010

I was told this was an European classic hotel and good employees, very helpful. I didn’t like the neighborhood, but it's not too far to the Union Square area. When I had dinner near the Hotel Nikko, I took a cab to go back to the hotel. more

Cheap Room 8/19/2010

Stayed there for 3 nights by myself. The building resembles a smal European hotel, as well as the windows and interiors. Room was ok as it was cheap. I have no complaint about the location, close to concert halls, Union Square, etc. more

Friendly Staff 8/17/2010

The staff was friendly, the room comfortable, if small, and the rates were cheap more

nice employees 8/11/2010

Hotel employees were so nice. It might be a little too noisy as the hotel is located in the city center. more

surprise 8/10/2010

As the rate was low, I didn’t expect much for the hotel. Bath tub looked a little old but others were acceptable. It was too noisy outside. During my stay I saw a Japanese lady whom I didn’t see at check in. It was a surprise! She spoke to me in English first then in Japanese. She looked like Chinese! I guess she changed her language to Japanese after she saw my name during the conversation. more

excellent 8/9/2010

The service here was excellent.  The staff, maybe to compensate for other problems, bent over backwards to arrange tours, get cabs, store luggage, etc.  The staff here was every bit as professional as that of much finer hotels more

everyones wonderful 8/3/2010

Everyone -- front desk, bell staff, housekeeping -- made our stay a wonderful one, and I have already been telling friends around the world to choose the Renoir when they come to San Francisco, and I have been telling local friends in the Bay Area to tell their friends and organizations that it is a great place to recommend for out of town guests and conference accommodations.Even the remodeling that was going on while we were there was carried out in a guest-friendly way -- everyone was always aware of guests' need to come and go with minimal disruption. Of course, we love the building, too -- such a great building! Thank you for your email and congratulations on building such a wonderful staff! more

helpful & frindly staff 7/28/2010

This is where the Renoir Hotel shines. I had reason to call the hotel several times before our trip and everyone I spoke to was pleasant and helpful. I verified that the Moscone Convention Center was walking distance (3 blocks) and that public transportation was nearby (five feet from door or across the street if going the other way). I had made two separate reservations because we hadn’t finalized our airfare so I had a reservation for one night and one for six. I called ahead to be sure they understood we didn’t want to check out in between. Once we arrived, the desk help (concierge perhaps) gladly gave directions, helped with shuttle reservations, and answered all our questions until we got our bearings after a few days. There were bellhops available to take luggage to and from the rooms, bring an iron when requested, or extra towels or pillows. The place reminded me of an old European hotel. There’s no meeting rooms or food court just clean hotel rooms with plenty of service. The bistro in the lobby was open for breakfast and lunch. We did not eat there but when we walked through the food was very appealing and smelled wonderful. Continental breakfast was $7.99 and American breakfast was $9.99. We did have an Anchor Steam in the pub one night. There was a long bar with a TV at one end. The other end had a fussball table and a dart board. It wasn’t crowded and the bartender and the other patrons were quite friendly that night. The larger restaurant served Brazilian food. We had dinner there one night. Two people, with two beers, two entrees with salads, tax and tip came to $46. I couldn’t finish my platter and felt guilty not being able to take a doggie bag. My husband had a pork dish and I had a vegetarian lasagna. They were quite good. The hotel provided off street valet parking for $22 a day with in and out privileges. Vans and buses were higher but we used public transportation so I don’t know how smooth this was. I was able to walk to many major attractions including Union Square, Chinatown (saw the Chine more

Renoir Rescue 7/23/2010

Once again my husband had a professional conference in a wonderful city where I wished to go play while he worked. Once again the conference hotel cost close to $150 a night far exceeding any budget he had in his grant for such an expense. Once again I came to the rescue by finding a nearby hotel for only $77.52 which included all taxes. If you are familiar with San Francisco, the Renoir Hotel is on a triangle formed by McAllister Street, Market Street, and Leavenworth Street. From the maps I had this appeared to be a short walk for my husband to the conference at the Moscone Center and appeared to be close to public transportation for me. more

Charming and Affordable 7/21/2010

But if you're looking for a clean, affordable hotel in a charming old building, this place is worth checking out.  I chose this hotel for my first trip to SF because it is directly across the street from a Bart station, so door-to-door transit from the airport was easy and cheap.  I was also very pleased with the service.  The staff members I met were friendly and helpful.  One downside is that it was a bit difficult to get a cab from the main entrance more

convenient 7/14/2010

The hotel is convenient to many areas, primarily because it is on Market Street.  There are plenty of cabs, streetcars and buses to take you where you want to go.  The hotel is within walking distance to a number of places, including Dotties True Blue Cafe and the Civic Center. more

Affordable Alternative 3/19/2006

I have stayed at the Renoir and have had out of town guests stay there. It's not a luxury hotel nor a boutique hotel. It's very basic, you get a bed, bathroom, TV, a nightable, and a closet. If you want something fancy this is not the place for you. But is you want a reasonably-priced hotel in the middle of the city, then the Renoir is a great option. It's official address is McAllister but it's right on Market Street, less than 2 blocks away from The Warfield It's convenient to Muni, BART, and Union Square. The area can get sketchy at night, but the hotel itself is safe, in my own experience. There is no room service, as one reviewer noted, but there is a restaurant on site and many eateries nearby. It is an older hotel, but it's pretty well maintained considering, and I'd rate the housekeeping as very good. The Renoir won't impress you or offer you a luxury stay, but it's clean, affordable, and accessible. more

not luxurious at all 6/26/2005

The hotel room cost me a whopping $110, but the setting was worth much less than that. The hotel is old and creaky and not well maintained. You can tell that it was built ages ago and had not been changed since. There was no room service. The room was small and drafty with a single TV as decoration. The heater was oudated, also. Bedspread looked faded. The floor was uncarpeted. Only one worker is available at night and that would be the desk clerk who informed us that we could not ask for much of anything because the service staff was not on duty. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
This cool, triangular-shaped building was constructed in 1909. It offers a unique fusion of styles--from its ornate, Victorian style lobby to its Cafe do Brasil, which claims to be the city's first and only Brazilian Churrascaria. The cafe's yellow and lime green walls provide the backdrop for all-you-can-eat barbecues and performances reminiscent of Carnivale, complete with girls in bikinis and elaborate headdresses.

    The Details
The 135 guest rooms were renovated in 2001 and come in a variety of types. The suites are the best, with large separate sitting areas (complete with sofa beds) whose big windows look out over Nob Hill, Market Street and the Financial District. Decor is tasteful: dark carpeting, dark furnishings and fabrics in shades of rose and green. Accommodations come with data ports, and the hotel can offer fax and copy services. A reasonably priced airport shuttle is available. This is a non-smoking property.
