Was excited when this place openned in Willoby BUT that was then. The food is lacking and the service is substandard. Yeah, it's hip BUT don't waste your $$. Plenty of other choic...

we give up on this one 9/6/2009

the charm of the old diner car is looking a little ratty these days, the food was way too greasy to be edible and the service.. well, leah, our waitress was aggressively hostile when we were one of four couples in the entire joint. more

One of my favorites 5/24/2009

We've been coming to Relish for about 13 years and have never been disappointed. The menu is on the small side, but the preparations are always perfect! In the warmer weather, the outdoor garden is perfect for a relaxing dinner. But maybe I shouldn't be saying all these good things about it. I don't want to have to wait to be seated the next time I go there for dinner. Pros: Great food, nicely prepared Cons: Buba is no longer there more

Bad service, mediocre menu 3/22/2009

Going to this place is just settling. The menu is tiny and mediocre. By the time I picked something off the menu that moderately interested me, my waiter never showed up. He just never took my order, brought me water, acknowledged my existence. I sat there for fifteen minutes, got up, and left. Maybe if they hired someone who wasn't 11 years old to work there, the service wouldn't be so awful. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

My favorite place! 7/3/2008

I had to write a review because I was really surprised by what I read from other users. I love this place and come all the time and always have great friendly service. I love their burgers and the specialty drinks are on par with any upscale bar in NYC. Pros: service, cocktails, food Cons: crazy busy brunches with long waits more

The food is great-----but 4/7/2008

How good the food is does not make up for the horrible service. It's almost like everybody is drunk or cocained that works in front. I used to be able to deal with it. Maybe I have changed. Sorry Relish, you lost me. Pros: great food Cons: the most horrible service more

Nice food, service is hit-or-miss... 9/5/2007

I come here for the food, not the service...the staff varies so much here that I don't let it affect my decision to eat at Relish. The first time I went, the waiter was awesome...fun and friendly. We gave him a ridiculously huge tip. We had such a good time that we decided to have our wedding rehearsal brunch there about two weeks later and our waitress was hellishly bad...she had an attitude with my adorable 82-year-old father-in-law, who is sweet as pie so she immediately lost in my book. There were 15 of us, which is a lot of work, but if you can't handle waitressing, do us all a favor and do something else for a living. Great fries and cheese grits, so I'll probably go back as soon as possible. What can I say, I'm a masochist with a food problem. Oh, and don't go b/w 5-6PM - the kitchen is closed. I hate that. Pros: Great upscale diner food...amazing grits and onion rings Cons: service is either great or terrible, closed b/w 5-6PM more

Good food, lame service. 3/11/2007

The food at relish is good and has been consistent every time I've eaten there. It's also a great space, especially the back yard for brunch when the weather is warm. Unfortunately, the service there is pretty lame. It's hard to get the servers' attention when you need something and often times when it's busy, you will end up waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Pros: Good food. Cons: Service. more

Best brunch in Williamsburg, maybe even NYC!! Great wait staff. 1/21/2007

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Relish. I am a regular here, dining almost once a week . The service is always fantastic, as is the food. I bring tons of ppl to eat here, and so far no one's been let down. It's hard to want to go anywhere else with such a remarkable place like this. The folks here really value customer service, and it shows. For a place that is constantly packed, it means a lot to me as a customer to have my drinks refilled on time, and to be waited on so fantastically. The crowd is usually very standard run of the mill Williamsburg hipsters, as you would expect for a place in their location, but the vibe of the place is very warm and welcoming to all. I always here my new favorite songs being played here, which just adds to the general cute ambience of the little shiny diner near the waterfront. Pros: fantastic friendly wait staff, cute warm ambience, yummy food (their BRUNCH rules!) Cons: cocktails a bit pricey, but very tasty. more

Best Brunch in Williamsburg 1/21/2007

This place has become my favorite Brunch spot in williamsburg. They have some really amazing dishes that I have never had anywhere else, especially the Corned Beef Hash in Roasted Red Peppers sauce. Amazing. The spanish eggs, french toast, chicken sausage gravy, and even their milkshakes are incredible. Additionally, I ALWAYS order their grits, and love them (and I was born and raised in North Carolina) and they are good 95% of the time. Even the burgers look amazing with the gigantic side of onion rings, but ive never brought myself to trying one for brunch. Pros: Great food, good portions, good staff, decent prices, big selection, good music, awesome patio Cons: Dinner is a little pricey, cocktails are too expensive, no delivery, dont have brunch every hour of every day ;) more

Drinking Dinner Diner 1/14/2007

I'm not too familiar with the Williamsburg area, but we ventured out to this restaurant about 2 weeks ago with a couple of friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. As soon as we approached the block, we saw about 2 dozen motorcylcles and thought that we were signing ourselves up for some kind of raunchy adventure in a old school, diner. However, we were quite delighted once we arrived, found our party, and checked out the menu in this somewhat trendy and totally inviting haunt. Pros: In Williamsburg (if you're in Williamsburg), Great Menu, Affordable Cons: All the way in Williamsburg more

Waiters with 'tude is right 9/11/2006

I have an extensive group of friends that tends to grow exponentially if a few of us sit down at the table at a restaurant to eat. Call us disorganized, but don't make it into a big awkward problem if you're a waiter and you can't accomodate us. When two more friends showed up to join our table last weekend at Relish, our waiter snarkily gave us only one chair, as if to say that we should have to choose between who got to stay and eat with us. When the food came (on time, to their credit) the resentment I felt towards those who had brought it to me rendered all that I tried tasteless. Pros: outdoor seating Cons: tude tude tude more

Whoreable service 9/1/2006

Relish could be so awesome--its location and look offer so much potential, and it is kinda a neighborhood institution. every six months or so i try it again, hoping for a good time, and i leave wondering how this joint stays in biz... the food is banal and inconsistent and i don't think anyone ther ehas acutally ever crossed the Mason-Dixon line (that is not what grits taste like). the REAL ISSUE WITH RELISH IS THE ATROTIOUS SERVICE. honestly, there is a big dude bartender who is pretty solid, but every single waitress in the place is mentally handicapped and super snotty. Sorry girls, i don't care how skinny you are, it doesn't make you cute, hip or entitled to that 'tude. Walk 3 blocks to grand and go eat at aurora. Pros: solid bartending, funny manager, good tunes Cons: worst Service ever more

Another Williamsburg favorite! 8/14/2006

The food was excellent. Service was acceptable. And atmosphere was casual chic. We had the monk fish which was amazing. And the champagne sangria was quiet unique. Would go back again. more

Best food in Williamsburg 7/15/2006

All the items on the menu (which changes every season) are excellent. The service is generally good, though some waiters can be aloof, and at times the music can be downright out there...but the excellent food makes up for it. more

Good Food 4/15/2006

Good Food / Nice Atmosphere / Great Location / Rude Slow Waitstaff with attitude Pros: Good Food, Great Location, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Rude Slow Waitstaff more

Welcome to Wannabe-ville 3/19/2006

What could have been a wonderful meal (the food was overall delicious and well prepared) was completely ruined by the loud, extremely heavy metal ""music"" blaring from the stereo. We asked the waitress very nicely to please change the playlist to something more appropriate for dinner, she chuckled to herself and said ""sure"" but never changed it. We asked her again when she came to our table and she said ""sorry, that is what we play here."" There were hardly any other customers there. So, we left her a tip to match her snotty attitude. Then she loudly told the chef what we left her as if she expected to get tipped simply because she exists. Great food, but get it to go! And stay away from Dee Dee the Wannabe Waitress. Pros: Food, Decor Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Bygone Days 2/27/2006

After seeing this chic diner in the film version of Angels in America, I hunted it down on my bicycle, using the Williamsburg Bridge for triangulation. That night, my girlfriend and I enjoyed an amazing meal, complete with prompt seating and friendly service. Unfortunately, return trips to Relish have been far less satisfactory than the first. This is odd. The Macaroni and Many Cheeses has always been crispy on top and creamy inside, the Mixed Greens crisp and flavorful with a light vinaigrette, and the specials intriguing. In short, most menu items are tasty and adventurous, while staying true to their warped diner roots. But my last three visits have been marred by both my high expectations and their rude service. My recommendation is: go once on a hot evening, sit in the garden, enjoy the cocktails, order several items, take pictures, and never go back. Pros: Food, Cocktails, Ambience Cons: Service, Price more

Tasty Brunch 1/15/2006

I visited Relish for Sunday brunch this weekend. I was pretty happy with my omlette, and my date's prociutto and poached egg ""benedict"" was delicious...I had to steal more than a few bites! However, service was on the slow side (my glass of water was never refilled) and I would have been happier with the food if it had been hot when it was brought to the table, instead of just above room temperature. Those complaints aside, I really enjoyed my meal, and I'll definitely be back. Maybe I'll stop in for dinner next time. Pros: great brunch, good music, decent value Cons: slow service more

Did not relish this experience! 9/3/2005

With all the great places to eat in Williamsburg don't waste your time on this overrated tin can. The food was average, the decor is cool but the service was overly pretentious!!! They need to round up all the wannabes that work there, attach a big truck to this trailer and hall these credit card hipsters out of the neighboorhood! Pros: DECOR Cons: SERVICE more

Uneven.... 7/12/2005

I've had drinks here a few times, but tonight I finally tried the food. We loved the crispy basil shrimp rolls and the mahi tuna was nearly perfect. On the other hand, the parmesan french toast was smothered in an unidentifiable brown sause, that completely diluted the sharp flavor of the cheese; and the hangar steak special was more like my grandmother's mush pot roast and the accompanying salad was way too salty. Do try Fire Walk With Me cocktail, it perks you right up, but one is enough, unless you're looking for a hole in your stomach. Lovely space and great service. Pros: Cocktails, Service, Space/Location Cons: Uneven Menu more
