The dives of dives 4/14/2005

I have found me a home. When I stay in San Francisco, I usually stay at the Hilton across the street from Red's Corner. I discovered this ideal watering hole during my first stay at the Hilton and make an effort to visit it each trip. A decent selection of beers and, during the day, the friendliest bartender: an elderly Asian woman. Be warned: the decor is nothing to write home about and the bathrooms look like they enter the bowels of hell...but that is what dives are all about, isn't it? more

Neighborhood bar 10/22/2003

In an area full of tourist traps, dives, and stench, this place is a gem. You've got the best of all worlds.. 1) Small number of bartenders who you can get to know, instead of a rotating staff of college kids like some other places. 2) Friendly locals and regulars. 3) Confused tourists from random countries trying out the toxic drink specials of the day and asking for advice on places to visit. For some reason, everything just mixes well here. Even the homeless population here is either friendly or entertaining. Pros: Staff, Drinks, JUKEBOX! Cons: "Scary" area more
