Everytime I have been to the Red Room, its been a Blast. I have been solo, with a date and with a group. Pros: Ambiance & Personnel Cons: More time to frequent

Racism Continues ... 2/27/2011

I had a friend take his girlfriend and 40 friends to a scheduled and planned Bday party here. My friends are very careful accurate people so they checked the reservation 1 month 1 week and day of party. When they arrived the door greeter claimed no reservation after seeing the party was ethnically mixed. Asians, Hispanics and other typical Houston folks all turned away because of the Color of their skin or ethnicity Unacceptable, this is 2011 and this has to stop please do not spend your MONEY HERE! more

Red Room is Racist 2/27/2011

We were having a party for Susanna. We called a month before, 1 week before, and 1 day before to confirm everything. When we showed up at 10:30, they told us that we had no reservation, that the Manager, Brad Stearns was fired yesterday, and they would not honor our reservation we made with him, leaving us wondering what to do. We had 40 people standing outside. A few of the people in our group got there before us and was let in, but when we showed up, they noticed Asian, Indian, and Hispanic people in our group, and they basically told us to leave. The big fat English guy who was at the door told my sister, her and her friends could come in, but everyone else would have to leave. I have never experienced a situation like this in my life. I was pretty embarrassed, but come to find out, this isn't the first time they have done this before. Needless to say, we went off to another place and had a great time. Here is a few links to write reviews. Places like this should not exist. Please let Houston know what a bunch of A-Holes these people are. Please take the time out and write a review. If I am missing a review link, please feel free to ad it. more

Door Man is a sad little man 9/20/2010

First let me just say that the guy with the British accent at the door is a jerk, he's rude and acts like an a$$. The place is way over rated and it basically sucked i don't know what the big deal was and why the door man makes it hard for people to get in, its a waste of time and Houston has many more places to go too. People need to stop going here and let this place go under, manly because they would allow such an Unprofessional A-hole to work at there door. more

Doorman is a big douche!!! 9/20/2010

Went out on a Saturday to the Red Room and found out this place is not at all what people make it out to be. There is a bar downstairs with a lounge area which is fine but the upstairs area sucked. It was way to crowded and they only had two restrooms. As much money as people spend in this place I know they can afford to put in a decent amount of restroom stalls. The DJ wouldn't even play a full song. The worst thing about this place is the nazi-door man. He is unprofessional when addressing his fellow co-workers and he is especially rude to the consumers. You couldn't pay me to go back to this place. more

Douch bag land 2/28/2010

I ithis place have a great concept but very crappy attitud they believe they are an exclusive place because they have an ignorant monkey at the door which is willing to say or do anything if you throw him a few bucks I personally never had an issue getting in to places including this one but once inside I decide to leave the place because is douchbag land full of $100 dollar millionares which need to thow a hundreds to bully girls realy?? And people feel exclusive because they can do that, but with 100 and an ignorant you can do whatever Pros: Concept Cons: The white trash getto bouncer with fake english accent more

An Absolute Waste of Effort 2/7/2010

A friend of mine recently heard about Red Room, and thought it would be a nice alternative to Washington so we decided to check it out last night. When we arrived in 3 separate cars, we were all charged $10 for valet, which we didn't have a problem with. As we walked toward the entrance, we were told that last night was reservation only. I understand that it is a small place, but the website does not say reservation only on Saturdays. We were there all of 1 minute and still charged $10 each for valet. To top it all off, I realized this morning that the valet moved my headlight setting to on instead of auto. I now have a dead battery:) I will never darken the doors of Red Room again. Pros: No Pros Cons: Highly Disappointing more

LOVE 2/3/2010

Along with maybe one or two other places, Red Room is easily my favorite night spots in Houston. It's clean, elegant, and the staff is amazing. And I dont care what anyone says, the Door Guy is AWESOME. Perfect place is you are tired of the washington crowd. Pros: Decor, Staff, Door Guy, Crowd more

Red Room Rising 1/12/2010

Went there a few weeks ago for a birthday party. It took us a long time to find the place as it is hidden above the street, we must have driven past it four or five times! Got to the front gate and there was a group being told by doorman it was reservation only, they looked like good people so I was hesitant, thankfully we had pre-booked and after a a quick list and I.D. check we were inside. The heavily accented doorman told us that it was beacuse they were so small he could only fit so many in, I found that hard to believe until I got upstairs. Pros: Stunning decor, great music, top notch crowd Cons: Hard to find, restroom cramped more

AMAZING 1/12/2010

This is my favorite place to go out in Houston. It is always a great crowd and always fun. Dan is very nice and always friendly, JT makes the best drinks and the rest of the staff is fantastic as well. Beautiful decor, great music! If you haven't been, you should stop by. Pros: Great people more

Terrible 1/4/2010

I went there a couple of weeks ago. The service was terrible. The door man wants to make this place exclusive but it has no idea of what exclusive is (he probably hasn't traveled outside Texas in his life). Anyway, after getting in, it took us 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink. The service was terrible and on top of things, there was a drunk guy looking for a fight with everybody at the bar. It took security about 20 minutes to ask him to leave. One word to describe this place: Terrible more

Red Tape 12/29/2009

In an attempt to manufacture exclusivity, the door man ""Dan"", formally with Reign, would not let my group of 6 in the lounge. Our group was 4 women and 2 guys. I guess ""Dan"" was looking for rent money. He said the Red Room is packed tonite, we could clearly see NOONE was there. WE LIVE in River Oaks, we are the people they are trying to attract. Cons: Door Man more

Never Again! 12/24/2009

I organized drinks with 8 friends for Saturday Dec 5th after reading a fantastic review in a local entertainment paper. None of us could recall a night more miserable than the one we had at Red Room. To start it took a minimum of 15 minutes to place a drink order at the bar, then another 10 minutes to receive the drink and pay out. Second, the Red Room has advertised itself as a place with good music but not too loud so that you can still hear your friends....this was not the case. Third, we sat down at a reserved table, knowing and understanding we would need to leave once the guests who reserved the table arrived. After being there for two hours and ordering many drinks one of the staff ordered us to ""finish our drinks, close our tab and vacate."" (Even though no one had arrived yet to collect the reservation...it was almost midnight at this point.) We were treated as if our money was not good enough. The place was filled with $30,000 millionaires. We were told they were trying to attract a certain ""clientele"". Obviously, we were not the ""clientele"" they were after. Even though we were all dressed very nicely, in fact some of us in dresses and heels and we were happily spending money freely on overpriced drinks. To top it off when we ""vacated"" one of my friends cars had been hit in valet parking. And it took the rest of us a soild 20minutes to get our car out of valet even though we were the only ones leaving. We have never been treated so rudely. We will NEVER return. Such a shame to as we were all very excited about a potential new lounge that sounded like it was just the place for us. Pros: Clean and new Cons: Terrible bartenders and valet, Rude management and staff more

Best Lunch in a Long Time 6/20/2007

I am a frequent ""luncher"" who loves to test out places for a light lunch. I have frequented Tony's and Cafe Annie's, but today's lunch was The Brownstone. We were nervous b/c we were wearing shorts and flip flops...""NOT A PROBLEM"" the hostess said and we were immediately seated. The food was light and tasty and completely satisfying! I had the ceviche (which had HUGE shrimp and sweet jumbo crabmeat) and the Trout for lunch. The tout had wonderful couscous that had mint, tomaotes and golden raisins!! SO light and refreshing and yet filling. My friend had a great salad The portions were not too big so I could finish up my shopping too. They have a quaint little gallery that is adjacent to it as well, so I was able to get a wonderful work of art and have lunch at the same time! All in All it was a wonderful, casual lunch that was impecable service and wonderful food. Thanks Brownstone, we will be back! Pros: Casual lunch with great prices more

Best Service and Food in Houston 6/19/2007

This was supposed to be a nice place to have drinks with the girls on a Saturday night...and turned out to be SO MUCH MORE!! We started out with wonderfully tart Cosmos and chatted over some appetizers. The beef Carpaccio and Smoked Salmon were fabulous! The waitors never rushed us or made us feel anything other than VIP. We all ordered entrees ( there were 6 of us)...the Lobster & Filet melted in my mouth. The rest of the group ordered the Chilean Seabass with Raspberry sauce (FAB!!), Lamb Chops that were cooked perfectly, the Trout and Chicken Brie. The food was so good all of us CLEANED the plates! Throughout the night our waitor was so attentive and accommodating, never overbearing and never arrogant. We split the homemade bread pudding and a white chocolate icecream heart for dessert. Both were out of this world!! If you are looking for a place that offers top notch service with aagreat American food, come here! It is WELL WORTH the few extra dollars for dinnner.... Pros: Service and Atmosphere and Food...You feel like royalty! Cons: a little pricey, but WELL WORTH IT more

Best quiet Romantic atmosphere 2/27/2007

We took our friends to Brownstone for their anniversary. We were a little nervous since there were mixed reviews, but booked the reservations. It was nothing but all around fabulous! Pros: Mint Ice cream and chocolate cake!!!! Cons: price, but it is worth it! more

Be prepared to be disappointed 1/21/2007

I actually got engaged at the Brownstone--and the day was perfect except for the whole Brownstone part. I had read a lot of good things about this restaurant, but none of them turned out to be true. I went during Christmas, and it felt like Santa Claus threw up everywhere. The decorations were way over the top--so much so it felt cheap. I had a beef dish with some sort of rosemary butter sauce, and all I could taste was rosemary--no butter and no meat. On top of everything, the meat was tough. I would not go back here, I do not recommend it. It isn't worth what they charge. Pros: It wasn't crowded at all. Cons: The food was terrible. more

Great food, awesome music, first-class ambience 12/30/2006

This is my favorite restaurant in Houston. The food is just great and you have to BE there to experience a Harp in your ears and Wine down your throat. Pros: Great food, Live music Cons: Price, Service more

KLKIthas 5/2/2006

The food was above my expectations, though the service was very disappointing. I expected better professionalism from their wait staff. They need to be educated on proper etiquette and courtesy towards their customers. Pros: Free Valet Parking, Fine Dining, Uptown Cons: Service more

Romantic, different 8/31/2005

Went on a Thursday. My first visit. It was quiet, which I liked. Service was faultless. The decor is beautiful. We were offered a drink and brought garlic bread and allowed to chat for a good while before the menus were brought. I thought that was a nice touch. There were a number of items on the menu that are fairly unusual in Houston, so it's an interesting place to eat. To start, I had vol au vents escargots and my date had lobster raviloi. Then I had venison and she had trout. Sorbet was served between the starter and the entree. The wine we drank was just the house wine served by the glass but really excellent. Finally, we shared a delicious chocolate dessert. While the food was excellent, the occasion was made by the decor and the service. While not cheap, the prices represent very good value. Pros: Decor, Service, Romantic more
