It's a shame about the attitudes 9/11/2009

I have spent a lot of time lately browsing at Recycled Cycles, but I have never been waited on. I just now returned from there looking for an older but common part. Two people at the service counter were having personal conversations. One counter person stared at me as though I was about to steal something while continuing her personal conversation. I glanced her way to let her know I was waiting in line until someone was available, but she just went on leering at me like I was an incurable leper as she continued talking to her firend. Another service tech, not three feet from me, glanced my way a few times but went on trying to score with the girl whose bike he was servicing. I would have waited for the guy to pause and take a breath to ask him a quick question, but he didn't. I stood there a few more minutes. The girl behind the counter kept staring at me like I had done something seriously wrong, so I decided once again to spend my money somewhere else. I've finally learned my lesson. There are plenty of reputable local bike shops. Once I'm done tinkering, my bike will need a professional tune-up, and I'll definitely be going somewhere else for that. more

Don't expect cheap bikes but overall not bad 5/30/2009

I went in to buy a road bike and couldn't find a single one under $700. Finally after buying one, when they went to give it the 'out the door' check to make sure everything was working correctly they did a crappy job and I road home with a free wheel that was way to tight and not really that free at all. They have a great selection of parts, gear, accessories, and new bikes, not so many used bikes. Also most of the used bikes are going for about 2 to 3 times as much as they would on craigslist. However as long as you make sure the 'out the door' check is good overall it's not that bad. more

Bad experience :( 6/22/2007

I tried to buy a bike there with some customization. They are good at promises, I paid in advance, but a week passed - job is not done (as it was promised) and in addition they tried to charge extra for things, which were included in the price I already paid. As result lots of wasted time and no bike :( Andriy more

Inexpensive Bike Parts 8/17/2005

Recycled cycles used to be the place to buy that random used bike part for your junker. Now they sell new bikes as well as bikes assembled using recycled parts. It's not as inexpensive as it used to be but it's still less expensive than new parts and the staff are knowledgable. They also do bike repair though haven't had my bike serviced there. more

Good deals but service backlog 8/16/2005

Recycled Cycles benefits from an excellent location on Portage Bay in south University District. On spring and summer afternoons they display new and used bikes for sale on the ample deck, pulling in all kinds of passers-by. They have some good deals on new bikes, and will give a fair price for your trade-ins. Service is also good, but the backlog during spring in summer can be onerous—it took nearly two weeks for some minor repairs to my wife’s bike in July. more
