My favorite restaurant in Atlanta, great food, great service and the ambiance is outstanding! more

Very Bad Experience 4/12/2012

My night at Rays was terrible due the average food and the poor service. Our waiter was a sarcastic fool. The food was nothing to rave about and I feel that Rays is one of those places that tries to survive on the past. Do not waste your time as there are many other great places to eat in Atlanta. more

Bad Experience 1/19/2012

it was not my first time dining here, but probably will be my last due to a poor service and quality of food. it started when the service first approached our table and asked if we wanted some water to drink instead of asking would you like something to drink. my wife had her mind set on the grouper because she loved it from our last visit, but the server sugested that she try the special fish of the day which was called Tile fish or something like that. i wanted to order the rib-eye steak but again the server sugested the lamb chops special. our guest that we brought with us ordered the CHICKEN which was the best dish. the fish sauce was awfull and so heavy and no taste. the lamb chops was 2 small chops with no taste. when my wife complained about the fish, the server went and got her the grouper without any sauce or lemon, the manager then came in and said that this was the first time they used that fish and that they were trying it. we had to ask for lemon with the fish, we had to ask for straws for our drinks, butter with our bread. the hostess at the door never said to have a good night and thank us for coming. this was a horrible experience. i did not receive a call back like i usually do after dining in. my check# was# 6105, tble33/1, gest 3, jan 18,12 more

Very Good 9/24/2011

Came here for a business dinner. The ambiance is very nice, would have liked to have sat out on the deck, but it wasn't open. The oysters were so smooth! The scallops were a large portion and were pretty yummy. Would definately come here again. The wedge salad looked amazing too. more

Great Happy Hour 9/11/2011

We came here after work last friday, very classy place. Had some raw oysters and calamari and sat in their piano bar, great time! more

change name to Ray Is A Jerk 3/23/2011

I have been a patron for many years, both before the renovation and after. The last time I dined there, I overhead Ray berating the manager in front of anyone who would listen. We have no idea what happened and don't care; we shouldn't have to listen to this while spending $200 on dinner. The owner is a jerk who obviously treats his staff badly, and he will never receive another red cent from us. more

My First Visit 1/22/2011

I went to Ray's for the first time last November. Though the food was just ok, not the way it sounds on the menu, the service was not very good at all. After a long wait, even with a reservation, we got our table, then we had to wait again for our drinks and then wait more to order our meals. It was like they were understaffed and then the waiter kinda slipped and spilled food all over the table next to ours. Maybe it was just a bad night, but with the prices they charge, everything should be perfect and it wasn't..... more

Wonderful Experience! 10/15/2010

I had never been to Ray's, but while in Atlanta on 10/13/10, I had the pleasure of dining at Ray's with 2 of my friends, and we all found it to be absolutely wonderful! Our waiter, Bobby, was the best I think I have ever encountered, and will certainly request him the next time I am there. He was very knowledgeable in the menu items, and offered wonderful suggestions - all of which we took, and were quite pleased. He made sure we had everything we needed throughout the entire evening. This was truly a very pleasant experience! Thanks Bobby! more

Great atmosphere 7/11/2010

The only good thing I could recall about it was the atmosphere. The food wasn't really good and it took our server a lot of time before he served it. more

lunch at Rays 6/18/2010

We had a few very pesky flies - we complained to the waiter and he said the door was open or had been open but didn't offer any remedy. I had the lobster roll sandwich on a brioche roll which was good but would have been better if they hadn't breaded and deep fried the lobster. I've had the lobster roll in London at Fortnum and Mason's and they just use chunks of lobster and that's what i envisioned when I ordered i t. Way too many French fries accompanied the sandwich. The flies continued to plague us throughout the meal. Pros: good gazpacho Cons: rushed service, flies all over the place more

Pricey, Average Food 6/12/2010

We just returned from dinner at Ray's on the River. Although the restaurant wasn't full, our party of 6 was seated in a too-small booth. We ordered an appetizer and then our dinner. And then the wait began. We waited, and then waited some more. Our waiter came by to tell us the food was coming up soon. And then we waited. The manager came to tell us the food would be up soon, apologized for the wait, and said that they would serve us desert on the house (which they did). My husband and I had seafood platters, at a price of $32 each. The seafood was average, certainly not worth the price. We don't think we got a good value at all for the money, and won't be returning. We wouldn't recommend Ray's on the River. more

Beware!! 4/12/2010

Be careful when using your debit or credit card at this establishment. After enjoying the sunday brunch, I was presented with a $76.88 bill. I decided to pay part of the bill with cash and pay the remaining portion with my card. I gave the bartender (we sat at the bar) $50 cash and had her take the remaining $28.66 off of my card. She brought a receipt for $26.88, I signed it and the episode was done. Or so I thought. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Dishonest worker, poor management more

A Window Seat is a MUST 3/25/2010

This is one of those restaurants where EVERYTHING is good! I'm a very picky eater, never have liked fish much, but at the advice of my date we ordered the raw tuna for an appetizer. I was brave and faced my fears and tasted this appetizer I was sure would be fishy and gross and... it wasnt.....I could tell the fish was fresh because it had no fishy taste and went down so smooth! (And trust me, I was waiting for that fishy taste to hit...) Whether you are eating fish or steaks, the food here is incredible fresh. I ordered a steak which was cooked perfectly and came with mouth-watering mashed potatoes. My date ordered the lobster which was perfectly golden with a asparagus as the side. Everything on the menu is famous, especially the horseradish crusted grouper. That dish is known to the locals here in Atlanta that have dined at Ray's on The River. A window seat is a must for this romantic setting as you will look over the beautiful river and the sunset! Highly recommended and will not disappoint! more

Thoroughly Unimpressive 12/30/2009

We went to Ray's as a Holiday Lunch. The service left quite a bit to be desired. Routinely, the waitress had to be tracked down to fill our drinks. The restaurant was quite empty, so there was no reason for her to be so slow. There was a fly buzzing around the table. I can understand that in spring, summer, or fall, but in the dead of winter?? When I said something to the waitress about the fly, she just shrugged like it wasn't her problem. Along with the poor service, the food was nothing to write home about. The crab bisque was more like a stew minus the chunks. Bisques are supposed to be a thick soup, but this was way beyond ""thick soup"". I make much better at home without even an effort. This was not just my opinion, the other person in our party that ordered it said, ""Yuk"" on the first spoonful. It was so thick, we could have done one of the Dairy Queen moves and turned the bowl upside down!! I've always been of the opinion that you should let a chef do what they do best, but that was a mistake at Ray's. The trout was dry and the spices were seriously overpowering on the defenseless, little fish. Oh, and put the emphasis on ""little"". That was one of the smallest pieces of fish I have ever seen served. It wasn't even both filets, there was just the one side of the fish. I'd expect that if the fish had been bigger, but this was really small. We spoke to the manager, who was very personable, but otherwise extremely useless. He asked what he could do to fix it, but did nothing. He said he would remove the waitress, but she was back anyway. Normally, any restaurant that I've been in that has had the serious problems we experienced at Ray's has always OFFERED something, a dessert, a reduced bill, etc. Many have even put a reduced bill without asking me, ""So, what do you want?"" On a positive note, the blue cheese dressing on the salad was very good. Overall, the entire party felt very ripped off, and we won't be back. Pros: Nice view Cons: Everything else, poor service, poor food, etc. more

Great Place for a special occasion 12/3/2009

They made our anniversary special. Table by the window, solicitous service, delicious entrees and a special dessert for the celebration. Ray was even on hand to congratulate us! Pros: Great view, good treat'em right service Cons: Tough choices more

A great atmosphere, but the food was nothing special 8/19/2009

The location really is great. Its right on the water (although there is essentially no outdoor seating as the restaurant is set back from the water, with a small garden that you can walk around inbetween the restaurant and the water. Inside the bar had a great Jazz area. Pros: Unbeatable atmosphere in side and out Cons: Seafood was great, steak was not, quite pricey more
