RAINFOREST CAFE:HIGH PRICES,POOR SERVICE,SMALL PORTIONS 5/11/2006

We have lived in the City of Katy since 1984 and were involved in city open public discussions between Mall Representatives and CIty of Katy for approval of the Katy Mills Mall. RainForest Cafe was to be an exceptional corner stone for the NEW Mall. We have visited the restaurant with (required) Katy Elementary, Junior High and High School functions and as an extended family (family of 4 + grandparents). We too wanted to embrace this new restaurant, purchased memberships and are regularly sent coupons. Every visit ( approx 20 since they opened) have resulted in extremely long wait for tables (reservations for members were made 24 hrs in advance), slow, unfriendly service, food served too little, too late, too cold + melted ice cream, etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY:Even if you too have the discount/free coupons! Will never go back unless required by school activity. RE: handling of handicapped/elderly grandparent: we had reservations a few years ago and arrived to be told we had to wait another hour to hour and 1/2!!!! I asked why and could they seat my Mother who was unable to stand. The manager said they had over booked, people were taking too long to eat and was unwilling to seat her for THEIR error. Finally I suggested they hand me a chair from the closest vacant table. I wa told they needed the chair. I walked over quietly picked up a chair and had my Mother sit on it next in line! I then told the manager they were in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act: we were offered no accommodations for their error in overbooking and poor handling of a senior citizen. When we were seated the wait staff was busily discussing personal matters and ignoring the customers: food was not brought to the table in a timely manner and arrived cold, ice cream arrived melted, etc. Service was so bad repeatedly I had to ask my spouse and my Father to please flag down another wait staff to call our assigned waitstaff to our table. WORST SERVICE EVER: EVERYTIME OF 20+ VISITS!!! DON'T WASE YOUR MONEY AND TIME! If you MUST go: go during off hours: mid afternoon, weekdays, etc. GO to original City of Katy Los Cucos for great food instead! more

Fun for kids - not very good food 4/19/2006

My kids always beg us to go to the "Jungle Restaurant." While it is fun for toddlers, it isn't so fun for adults. The food is average to poor and extremely overpriced! The service is slow and the waiters are often snippy and sort of rude. We prefer Joe's Crab Shack! more

Overpriced and over-rated 4/15/2006

I want so much to like this place as I have two small children who love animals. We have tried it several times, but end up disappointed with each visit. The food is SO overpriced and just average. The wait staff is slow. Hard to get their attention for drink refills and taking plates. I would understand this when it is crowded, but usually we have gone at 5pm with only a few other patrons there. The atmosphere is fun, but a little overwhelming. The "thunderstorm" goes on every few minutes and is gets really loud. I thought it would be fun for the kids, but they were pretty scared. more

Not what it's made up to be. 8/11/2005

I was surprised that we didn't have to wait for a table for six, including three children on a Saturday evening. That was about the only thing pleasant that happened all night. The animatronics scared the three young children who were with us (between 3 and 8 years old) and, though the restaraunt itself smelled good, I was surprised with how little creativity there was on the menu. I figured it would be really good, interesting south American food, since, you know, that's where rainforests are. Instead it was very bland, kind of stale, and it took forever coming out. Service was mediocre at best, prices were laughable. Portion sizes were large, but quality was awful. Never again. more
