The Rialto makes Tucson proud! 10/14/2008

I recently attended The Swell Season show (did anyone mention that the opening act was Iron and Wine?) I was in the middle of the crowd on the floor and had a great view of everything. I was told that The Rialto had recently put in a "state of the art" sound system and I think it sounds beautiful. The bands that night used a lot of varied instrumentation including drums, violin, piano, acoustic and electric guitar and every aspect of the music was well represented. Also not far from me there was a section in front of the stage that had been roped off for wheelchair bound attendees, a nice touch. Okay now lets talk about beer. The Rialto serves great beer and wine! I had a damn fine beer from a local brewery called Nimbus. It was called Old Monkeyshine and one bottle kept me singing all night! All in all, I give high marks to The Rialto. They put on a great show! Pros: Always something great on the calendar! Cons: I'm gonna go broke! more

The Rialto Theatre Rocks! 10/5/2008

I am the executive director of the not-for-profit Historic Rialto Theatre. The negative comments by the folks who attended the Swell Season concert border on the slanderous, and are certainly outrageous. The Academy Award winning artists from Swell Season brought their own light show, and the Theatre had nothing to do with it. That said, the lights were fine. My impression: The irate attendees don't get out much to live music events. The Rialto Theatre under its current management has produced more than 350 concerts in the last three years, sold $4 million in tickets and has hosted more than 200,000 guests. We regularly feature top quality artists across all musical genres. The readers of the Tucson Weekly have consistently voted the Rialto Theatre as the city's Best Indoor Venue in its annual Best of Tucson issue. Don't be fooled by disgruntled and unsophisticated comments. And lastly: We did offer a full refund, which these unhappy people refused! more

Terrible Concert Venue--Management Are Amateurs 10/2/2008

We went to see in concert "The Swell Season" at the Rialto on 10/2/2008. We sat in the balcony reserved section and when the headline act opened, the lighting technician turned on spotlights behind the stage that blinded my whole section. Several of us in our section which held about 100 people complained to ushers and other employees. After 4 songs, we couldn't take it any longer as the light was blinding us to the point we couldn't see the stage and we were getting headaches. We left the balcony and asked to see the manager. After another 2 songs she came out and asked us what was wrong. When we explained what was wrong, she said she was the manager for 3 years and never had a lighting problem. After much more discussion, we asked for our $41/ticket back and she refused. After that we left and were extremely disappointed with the evening. Do not bother going to this dive again. It is run by people with no idea how to run a concert venue--basically amateurs. Pros: None Cons: Poor Management, Parking is Far Away, Ventilation is Poor, Lighting Terrible more
