Greyhounds, especially retired racing greyhounds, are quite simply the best dogs ever. Beautiful, muscular, and intelligent, former racing dogs are usually also calm and even-tempered. (Those that aren't don't usually last long, sad to say.) Also, a retired racing dog will be housetrained and obedience trained (to a degree). They tend to be good with children, and are not agressive by nature.
I adopted one of my dogs through Peoria Greyhound Rescue, which is no longer in existence as an organization, and the other through REGAP. Both experiences were problem-free, but I was really impressed with REGAP's setup. The address and phone number above are acually for a farm, with horses as well as dogs. There's plenty of room for the dogs to run, and the whole operation really seemed very professional. The staff was exceptional, especially considering they all do it for free!
