Purple Panther Tattoo

I had a basic drawing of what I wanted, and Graham sat with me and we talked about where it should go, and at what angle- all things I did not really consider beforehand. He was very patient with me, which was cool. The shop itself is great. There's art all over the walls, and it's clean, which is unusual for anything on Sunset. Graham's a great artist, and everyone in the shop seemed to know the people coming in. The price was very fair, and I really like my tattoo. I personally recommend Graham, but everyone in there was really nice and talented. more

On this long overdue trip to L.A., I was going to get something done at High Voltage (of L.A. Ink fame)... until I did a search and found some awful reviews. Found another highly rated shop, but they didn't have any appointments available for my window. Then I found Purple Panther Tattoo and a slew of raves. Koko *is* brilliant and the sweetest person ever. Believe the reviews. The shop charges by the hour, and my tattoo took a lot longer than her initial estimate -- but she didn't charge me for the additional hours. Check the website and call ahead to verify availability. There were two artists available when I walked in (Koko and Emily, who also seemed to have some high recommendations), but they both got tied up for hours (with me and someone else) so they had to turn away a bunch of walk-ins. And check the hours to make sure you aren't asking to get a 3-hour tattoo an hour before they close. I probably ended up saving a lot of money by not going to some of those higher-profile shops. I vouch for the incredible work that Koko did for me (based on a design that I had ready for her), but I'm sure the other artists are of the same caliber. A shop doesn't need to have its own reality show to be stellar, and this one is well worth your time. more

Koko is an awesome tattoo artist who did an amazing job on a tattoo she did for me that. Another shop didnt want to do because of the circles in the designs. Not only did she do it, but she did it perfectly and that shit turned out flawless. Thanks Koko, and i hope next time i need work done, she is available, and i would highly recomend her to anyone seeking great work Pros: great artist more

I've been coming here since the late 90s to see Graham Chaffee. He's an extremely gifted artist and skilled inker--people can't believe some of my tattoos are 10 years old as the lines are still so sharp and the colors still so brilliant. Graham is conceptually incredibly creative and has transformed my random ideas (ie, ""Can we put a peacock in it?"") and my presentation of scraps of pictures or old medieval etchings into really beautiful and unique designs. I get so many compliments on my tattoos that I've taken to carrying a stack of his cards with me at all times. The Purple Panther is one of the longer-established shops in the city, and through the years all the work I've seen done here has been top notch. I've sent many friends here--the artists are consistently skilled and the vibe is laid-back and totally comfortable. I've spent a whole lotta hours getting drilled and needled and bandaged and I still love the place! Pros: Great tattoosts; clean, laidback spot more

I think this place is amazing. Although I've only ever gone to Graham to get my tattoos there, I'm pretty sure I won't be going anywhere else ever again.\r \r I've known at least three other people who've had him tattoo them, and all of us constantly get compliments on our tattoos. My husband has had his tattoos for years now and they still look perfect. \r \r As for the price, again, I think they're great. I got a pretty large cover up tattoo that took three sittings for an extremely good price (I won't say how much as I don't want to low ball them, but it was cheap). And the cover up is great! It's like I was never a 17 year old idiot who thought tribal was a good idea... ha!\r \r All in all, this place is awesome, and Graham is great. He's patient and helpful and just pretty awesome all around. Not to mention he's a fantastic artist. \r \r Go there!! more

They do great work, I like that they only do tattoo's, no piercings. Lot's of detail, no frills. This is the real deal. more

This shop is one of the coolest in the city--so laidback, the artists are awesome, the music is great...there's no rock star macho attitude (I'm a girl and hate that thing), and the tattoos are amazing!! I have several tattoos, but this is the shop for me from now on. Graham Chaffee is totally awesome, down to earth, and a great artist and tattooist to boot. He totally gets it and will make your ideas into art you never thought could be so cool. He is fast and his tattoos are clean and heal beautifully. Everyone there is totally nice, the place is clean, sterile, it's right in the heart of Hollywood and there's parking in back! Highly highly highly recommended.
