Awful Gym. Unprofessional Jerks. They only care about MONEY. 12/31/2006

I absolutely hate this gym. I have been a member of another local gym and went to Pure Fitness simply to get a hip hop class on Thursday nights. I signed up at the Tacoma club by TCC. I went to this one and the one off Hosmer. I was a member for 9 mos and never went. Here is why. Remember the hip hop class I specifically signed up for? Well I went and it was very clearly a specific dance group that held their practice at that day and time. It was adults and kids that had a choreographed routine they practiced and performed at local things like a high school dance team competition half-time break. I actually recognized them and their name from a high school dance team competition that my team participated in. So, in short, it was not this open hip hop aerobics class that was marketed as such and on the schedule. The sales guys are smooth and they are actually the ones to give you your first workout. It seemed odd that this guy was dressed in slacks, button shirt and shoes and was working me out. I later realized he wasn't certified at all. The monthly free workout is a joke. It's a ploy to get you in there and SELL SELL SELL. Turnover is so bad I had a diff person each of my 3-4 times. One guy used my number to call and pick me up, try to get me to come over and told me about some girl he got pregnant at his church. He was also not certified. They told me my ultimate weight should be 138. I worked out at my OTHER gym and got down to 132 myself. I came in and they treated me as if i was a newbie, refused to look up my card, measured and harassed me and told me based on calculations I needed to lose at LEAST 10 more lbs. He was so incredibly rude and demeaning. Continued to refuse to look up my old card and see how much I had already lost and I told him the OTHER trainer said 138 would be perfect for my body type. I cancelled. They continued to bill. Turned me into collections. When i call they admit it's their fault. But they cannot fix it. HOURS SUCKED ON WKNDS! Pros: parking wasn't bad. equipment is good. Cons: weekend hours are unacceptable, not friendly, rude, they don't communicate and ALL CALL YOU to buy training from them, not certified, arrogant more

Great Service!!!!!!!!!!!!! 12/13/2006

I am no stranger to health clubs. I am also no stranger to joining health clubs as I have moved around quite a bit. I have found most to have the slick/used car sales approach that I absolutely detest. I decided to check out Pure Fitness first because it is closest to my new home. Jody, the general manager was sweet and did not pressure me after I told him I wanted to look at other clubs. Upon leaving I realized I had locked my keys in my car. Chip, the district manager not only called for his own AAA service but waited with me until 10:30pm for AAA to show up. It was after this display of great customer service that I decided to go back in and get started right away. I want to thank Jody and Chip for showing me that not all health clubs are high pressure sales!! I will definitely recommend Pure Fitness to my new co-workers!!! Pros: Management more

Great Gym, Great People 4/13/2006

I have tried many gyms before, but got tired of the ""muscles heads"" taking up all the equipment or the ""gosspiers"" who are there to just be social and don't even want to work out. Pure Fitness is neither of those kinds of places. The training staff is great. Jeff Carlson is the manager and has a staff that rocks. They truely care about you and your goals, not just selling you training packages and supplements. Rachael is a trainier and definitely gives some good advice, not just with working out, but on how to live a healthy life in general. So if you want a place where people are serious about getting in shape, but don't want to pose in the mirror, this is the place to go! Pros: Parking, Staff, Inexpensive more

Shrinking and Happy 3/29/2006

When I joined Pure Fitness I was about 100lbs overweight. I had worked out off and on at other health clubs. My results were sketchy at best. The thing I loved the most about Pure Fitness is that there are no high pressure sales tactics that I experienced at other health clubs. All they care about is getting their members in shape. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat and the staff is helpful. I have lost 50lbs over the last 6 months! Pros: Personal Training, No Pressure, Cleanliness more

Thank God I can work out without the hassle! 8/10/2005

II recently quit a club because I was sick of the hard sell, impersonal personal trainers over packed equipment and dirty facilities. Working out became a lot more of a pain than just getting motivated. Pure Fitness did try to sell me personal training, but when I declined the staff continued to help me reach my fitness goals. Clearly it was not all about the sell! I love how warm and friendly everyone is and I am glad I joined! Pros: clean, good atmosphere more

Good Facility, Standard Sales Approach 4/27/2005

Good clean facilities, well located. A nice mixed lot of users, comfortable for out-of-shape newbies. Standard approach to sell extras, as the trainers obviously get commissions for extra sales. No worse, or better than three other fascilities I have toured or joined over the years. Hold your ground, don't buy extras until you have a good reason to. I just said no, and the trainer backed down. Pros: Clean, Good Parking, Good Equipment Cons: A Little Pushy, Didn't Listen Well more

Good Facility, Pushy Staff 5/30/2004

I like the convenience of Pure Fitness's hours and locations and their equipment. I could really do without their pushy approach to trying to get more and more money out of you once you join. Nevermind sign up fees and monthly dues; that is nothing compared to what they'll try to get out of you in your first few days there. (And their sales tactics rival the worst used car dealerships.) I'm told by friends that they will leave you alone over time, it's just a hassle to get past in the beginning. Maybe I'm naive and should have known that this is how gyms operate, but it's kind of soured me to the whole health club experience. It's too bad, too--I was really excited to get in shape! My suggestion: after you join, skip the two ""free"" personal trainer sessions or leave your wallet at home--seriously! Pros: Good machines, Decent facility, Convenient Cons: , Pushing products, Hidden costs more

Be prepared to sign your life away 12/14/2002

I just quit Pure Fitness and I cannot ever sending my worst enemy there. The facility is overrun by weekend certified so-called personal trainers that just want to sell you supplements. Forget about the ad you see about their low monthly dues. By the time I signed up, I had spend nearly $400 in sign-up fees and initiation fees. They would not let me leave without buying something. Pros: parking Cons: high pressure, misleading prices, unqualified trainers more
