I thought this place was quite good - went with a groupon and was impressed by the fresh dressing and sauces. The pizza had a nice blistered crust and overall I found this place to be very much solid. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/20/2012

This was one of the WORST restaurants we have ever been to by far. My husband wanted to leave in the middle of dinner. We got it half off on Groupon and were still upset about spending the $20 for $40 of food. We ordered drinks and the waitress said she would be back with straws. Many minutes later we still didn't have straws. I asked her again and she said ""I have to go out to my car to get them"". 5 more minutes...she brings back 3 straws when we needed 4 and said ""we only have 3 left"". She then brought us shredded lettuce that looked like taco lettuce with a few diced tomatoes and a few peppers with the wrong dressing. We asked her for ranch and she had to leave and come back with the right dressing and left the wrong dressing in little bowls on the table. The spaghetti and meatballs had tiny little meatballs hidden in thick sauce that tasted like frozen meatballs and not authentic taste. The lasagna was super tiny and just meatballs and a few noodles with the sauce--my husband said it was like chef boyardee and was disgusting. Then the cheese pizza slices! The kids wouldn't even eat them! Black/burnt on the bottom and cheese crusted like it was old. Cheesecake--definitely not restaurant quality. Seemed to be frozen! Very tiny little place with no music and uncomfortable. The bread was rock hard rolls with burnt marks. SAVE your money! more

Alot for the money -You won't leave hungry! 10/25/2011

We were delighted to find this hidden gem of a restaurant. If you are looking for fancy, this is NOT the place; but if you want friendly service & authentic, unbelievable italian food at a great price -look no further! Everything is so fresh and delicious and they have an impressive variety of entres, pizza & salads. My favorites are the Shrimp Fra Diavolo & that mouth watering Tiramsu for dessert! Just fyi this place is great for take-out too! more

$30 for App, 2 Entrees, and Bottle of Wine Thursday 4/7/2011

My husband and I noticed their sign for Thursday night while shopping near the restaurant and it sounded like a good deal so we tried it. The place was empty, there was alot of white noise and no music, it kinda felt dirty. The server was friendly. Limitations apply, anything under the seafood or chicken category do not apply to deal...soadios chicken parm I was craving!\r \r We ordered the calamari as our appetizer, it was heavily breaded but good, the only reason this restaurant is getting 2 stars is because of their fabulous marinara sauce...it is best I have had in a long time.\r \r I ordered the eggplant parm it was okay...again thanks to the yummy marinara which I scooped off of my noodles and ate alone. My husband had the lasagna, he said it lacked flavor and cheese.\r \r All and all, we will not be going back...even at $30 I don't consider it a deal. more

Best Italian food in the entire USA 3/24/2011

I accidently found on the net and decided to do some research before going. There are tons of BAD Italian restaurants here in the town and I had pretty much given up on going out to eat Italian food.\r \r We were delighted with our meal; the food was fresh, delicious, full of robust flavors and so good that I couldn’t stop eating even though I was way past full. \r I had Pollo Pulcinella and it was heavenly.\r \r The only down part was that the bread seemed maybe baked early in the morning and it did not taste as good as some people have wrote about. The environment is quaint and nothing to fancy and the people are pretty much all about getting the food to you without any small talk which is totally fine with me.\r \r The food arrived quickly and we checked out at a pretty decent time so I have really no complaints just can’t wait to go back there!\r more

Not worth it!! 2/6/2010

I had high hopes for this place as it was recommended from a friend. Went to the establishment on a Saturday night, completely empty, should have been a clue as to the type of experience. After giving the server the order it took about 25 minutes to get our food. In the mean time the only other customers who came in, after us, had ordered and received their food. We had to ask for the bread basket, the server seemed disgruntled to have to get us the bread. Once we received our food it was rather bland and unappealing. At the end of our meal, the server asked if we were ready to go and we said we were and would like the check. 10 minutes later and asking us again if we were ready we finally got our check. Seems like a business that wasn't busy on a Saturday would step up the customer service. Needless to say I will not be recommending this place to anyone in the near future. Pros: Seems to be authentic Cons: SERVICE, Freezing cold inside, price more

The food is amazing! 2/16/2009

Pulcinella's is the best food (italian or otherwise) in Raleigh! We have been there 3 times and can't get enough. I think my favorite dish has to be the shrimp scampi. The service is always good and you can usually get seated pretty quickly. The atmosphere is romantic, but still a great place to take your family. I can't wait to go back! more

Awesome Italian restaurant 5/22/2008

It's hard for me to be impressed by Italian restaurants, but Pulcinella's is awesome. The menu is simple yet elegant. The food is not pretentious or overworked. Everything is always prepared well, and I've never ever had a bad meal here. The food is also inexpensive - two glasses of wine with entree, salad and bread is always under $20. The service can be slow sometimes, and I've been forgotten about a few times, but the food is good that I can't even consider that a negative. The restaurant is small, and when they are busy, sometimes service can suffer slightly. But the food is awesome, and it is a lot better than most of the Italian places listed here on Citysearch. I recommend the baked ziti, eggplant, or the gnocchi. Try their house dressing - it's amazing! I hear the pizza is really good, but never tried. Pros: inexpensive menu but delicious, great ambiance, staff are nice, always attentive Cons: when busy service suffer a little, tables can be small more

Best Italian Food in Raleigh 7/19/2007

This is a no-frills place- just delicious authentic Italian food. It is what I like to cal the ""italian version of the Oakwood Cafe"" great food, service and they are always consistent. They have alot to choose from on the menu and the Pizza is by far, the best in Raleigh. I have taken several people here even an Italian from New York and thier response was ""I wish I could find a place like this in New York!"" Places like this never get enough credit-everyone votes for the ""trendy"" places. I like to eat at GOOD restraunts and this is one of the few in Raleigh, it is very affordable and everything is homemade! Pros: Anything on the Menu! Cons: Sometimes weekend nights are crowded more

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant -and the best Pizza! 7/16/2007

We've been going to Pulcinellas since it opened - its the definition of the ""Neighborhood Italian restaurant"", or as close as you can get in Raleigh. Great service, wonderful homemade dishes - and the pizza is the best. When we can't visit the restaurant, we take out the pizza. Its always the sauce thats make a difference to me at an Italian restuarant - and its the best here. I often order the simplest dishes, like Spaghetti and meat sauce, and I'm never dissapointed. Pros: Good service, easy parking, good ambience Cons: No bar more

Delicious fresh tasting wonderful food 6/4/2007

I love this restaurant. The food is so fresh tasting, great size portions. Did I mention the bread? Wow. It tastes like the oven is right by your table. Franco is the chef and he does no wrong. This food tastes so much better than any of the ""chain"" Italian restaurants. Pros: Delicious flavorful food. Cons: I eat too much everytime I go there because it is so yummy. more

I know there's more 3/28/2007

Since my friends were such gracious hosts I offered to take them out to dinner anywhere they wanted. So they chose this place, tucked away in a Grocery Store strip mall. I don't know, I have never had great experiences with this type of setting. For starters the bread. The only drawback to the bread is that you will try to burn the tips of your fingers off to get a piece of it. The little triangles come out piping hot, served with a sundried tomato oil, and taste like the best pizza crust you have ever had. If the rolls are that good, I know the pizza must have been too. I'm kicking myself.\r \r I ordered the Veal Parm. I wasn't really impressed with the quality of the Veal, but then again you have to pay for Good veal. Everything else on the plate was great. The sauce was fresh and flavorful and I ran out of rolls to dunk in it. But it wasn't long before I had more of them. Did I mention the service is good too. I never had a sensation of wanting. The bread and my drink glass were always full. \r \r I really wanted to try the pizza and the Bolognese. The bolognese looked so good I was kicking myself for not ordering it. Oh well I guess there's always a next time, but not for a while. Pros: Hot fresh bread. Awesome service, Owner always around to offer suggestions. Spectacular food Cons: I could only order one thing. more

Fantastic Food in a Small Town Atmosphere 12/11/2006

Pulcinella is a small restaurant off of Falls of the Neuse. My husband and I have eaten here 5 times, always get the same table and the same great service. We have a tried a variety of entrees and everything has been excellent from the basic lasagna to the complex seafood linguini. I highly recommend their calzone that they manage to bake to perfection and serve at exactly the right piping hot temperature with a side of delicious homemade sauce. Everyone come try this restaurant...just don't take my seat! more

Good things in small packages. 5/19/2006

Walked in this little place last Saturday night and was treated to one of the best Italian dinners I have had in the triangle. The pasta was homemade. Need I say more. Pros: quiet, quaint, delicious more

Fantastic value for great Italian food 4/29/2006

I've been a regular at this restaurant since they opened, and if this isn't one of Raleigh's best-kept secrets, I don't know what is. This is real New York-style Italian. If you need more detail than that, just go to Pulcinella's, order a lot of food, and pay attention. Repeat as necessary. The prices are very reasonable, the food is fresh and well-prepared, the specials are always worth recommending, and I've never had a single bad meal there in years and years and dozens of visits. If you want real New York Italian food, served in the real-deal northeastern style (I came here 25 years ago from a NYC bedroom community in CT and know what I'm talking about) you simply should not miss Pulcinella's. Highly recommended. Pros: Authenticity, Flavor, Value Cons: Location more

Very Nice Place 2/21/2006

Really enjoyed this little place. The food was good and the price was great! The penna zucinni is wonderful... Pros: front parking, good food, great price more

Nice Little Place 2/18/2006

I really like this place. The food was very good, and the price was GREAT! I had the Penna Zuccini with lots of garlic. Me and my hubby eat for less than 40 dollars plus a tip. It is crowed on fridays but worth the wait I think. Pros: good parking, food and price, service Cons: crowed, small tables more

My favorite sit down pizza restaurant 2/8/2006

I love this place. The staff makes you feel at home without overcrowding you. Great selection of food. My favorite is the stromboli. Served with salad - ask for the house Italian dressing, it's awesome. Go here with friends, family or have a romantic evening with your loved one. Pros: Great food, Great service, Great staff Cons: not open on Sundays more

A great find! 12/12/2005

A great place hidden away in a strip mall, which in Raleigh seems to be the best place to find restaurants. The food is yummy, the service is prompt, and the prices are great. One of our fave places to dine. more

Great food at a great price! 7/7/2004

A friend told us about this place...we love it. The restaurant atmosphere is small and cozy. My boyfriend and I know we will get a great meal there. We also took my mom there when she came into town to visit (we are Italian) and she loved it. The specials are interesting and always wonderful...and their sauces are right on. I love their marsala when it is offered...and the bleu cheese dressing is yummy!! You also will be happy with the check! Pros: secluded, great price, friendly staff more
