What a treasure! I became familiar with Chef Farmarie after seeing him on the Food Network and was anxious to try this restaurant. On a recent NY Jaunt, I met with up with 5 frien...

Savory Dinner 4/13/2006

Tried this place out with a group of friends a couple of months back. I must say Public lived up to all the hype. The lighting and decor are tasteful. The mojitos were well made. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Now the food..every dish was scrumptious! It's not the normal chicken, beef, pork, vegetable menu. Most dishes are interesting so better be ready to try things out ;) Asian, New Zealand and Middle Eastern fusion. Yummy!!! I must try brunch. more

Fantastic Brunch 8/9/2005

Although starting at 11am, Public is a fantastic space to spend a hungover Sunday morning. The New Zealand influenced seafood mixed with breakfast favorites help you through the pain. Perfect first date dinner place as well. more

Excellent Brunch, Cool Vibe, Inventive Menu 5/10/2005

Took a friend to Public for brunch a couple of weeks ago and had grilled jumbo prawns served over a spicy egg scramble, decadent french toast and eggs benedict. The food was unexpectedly good and the bartender, Tomas, was outstanding. An earl grey tea mimosa and a much needed bloody mary were the highlights on that front. It's busy on Sundays, but bar seating is comfortable if you can't get there early enough. They stop serving at 3.30pm. The crowd is 25-35, and attractive so the people-watching is fun. Probably not the best place to take kids. It's not a cheap brunch so take someone special. Enjoy. more

Editorial

  • Born of a partnership between the owners of buzz-worthy London restaurant Providores and a local New York design firm, this restaurant has an unmistakable air of trendiness. The crowd doesn't disappoint: A well-heeled, fashionable clientele packs the polished-wood-and-glass-partitioned space. With influences stemming from New Zealand, Australia, Asia and elsewhere, it's nearly impossible to put a label on the food here. Entrees are generally less successful than appetizers, and both are outshined by desserts.
