Editorial review from Citysearch 3/5/2014

Surprisingly vindictive little man. I was forced by BCBS TX to use this man as a primary physician and they required that he be the one to make a referral to a specialist. When I was in pain and needed to see my regular chiropractor, my pain did not fit into the schedule of his person who makes referrals so I was rudely told it would be four days later when they would make the referral. I complained and told him I would be changing insurance so I could circumvent his office. Before the change in insurance took place I called his office to have them refill my pain prescription since I could not get into my attending Dr. due to their schedule. He refused to refill my prescription since I complained, saying I fired him, therefore he would not fill my prescription. He chose to force me to endure pain as a way to get back at me for complaining to his staff. What happened to the Hippocratic Oath? more

Good Doctor 5/9/2009

I've been going to Dr. Berent for several years and I have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff. Dr. Berent is good about asking lots of questions before reaching a diagnosis. His office has been good about scheduling an appointment for me on the same day when something urgent comes up. Pros: good listener, accomodating schedule more

Good dr, lousy front desk person 1/21/2008

Dr. Berent is a great doctor - to the point, honest, and understanding. Some of the staff, however, can make it a not-so-pleasant experience. Namely, the woman who works at the front desk. She is nosey, condescending, and sometimes just plain rude. When she is being nice it seems completely fake and sometimes I feel like she is treating me like I am in kindergarten but I am in my 30s. But once you get past her, the office is not a bad place to be - reminds me of my pediatrician - being in a very small office with artwork from Dr. Berent's wife on the walls. They're never late and usually can get me in the same day I call if I am sick. Pros: good doctor, on-time Cons: some staff more

Very good physician 12/12/2007

I have always found Dr Berent and his staff to be wonderful people to work with as we deal with medical issues. Pros: Very flexible with scheduling and can work in emergencies more

Worst in Austin 8/1/2007

This man and his staff is the most unsympathetic, unempathetic and heartless group of people I have ever had the misfortune of crossing paths with. I unexpectedly found out that my mother had taken ill and was going to be put into a nursing home in another state and I had to leave within 24 hours to be with her and try to figure out what to do. I was out of my prescription and since I live 30 miles away, I stopped by the office on my way home to let them know what was going on and asked if they would please refill my prescription because I had to leave to take care of my mother. After I told the receptionist what was going on, she callously shrugged and said ""well, there's nothing I can do about that now."" I asked if I could stay until they called it in and she said ""no"". I drove all the way home to have them call me and tell me that they were refusing to send in the refill and said that I HAD to make an appointment first. I have NEVER heard of a doctors office display such lack of understanding of that magnitude. All this place is about is money, money, money. If you ever have any crisis going on in your life or are looking for friendly and empathetic people, DO NOT GO HERE. I will never, ever go back. Cons: Rude, careless staff and doctor. more

I've seen Dr. Berent several times over the past couple of years, and lately I've been seeing his Physician's Assistant Hilda. My own personal experience has been positive. He takes the time to listen to my concerns considering family medical history and my own, and asks about how I'm doing in every day life and at work. The past few appointments I've had with Hilda, who is very sweet. They both have provided me with pretty big amounts of samples, if they had them in the office, to prevent me from having to get a precription filled. The receptionist, also, is very friendly. more

office staff 3/25/2005

In terms of first impression, the doctor was not exactly a warm person, but I did think he was alright when you get to know him. His staff on the other hand treated me as if I was a nuisance each time I called because I always asked ""too many questions"". I was very concerned about my health in that time frame (about three months), and I don't believe I got the compassion I felt you should be getting in a doctors office considering this was a new doctor I had just started seeing. The doctor even told me on one of my visits that he was ""in a hurry"" and had to leave! That should have been my warning sign. I guess when you're not a passive person and outspoken, people see you as a nuisance. Anyway, good luck to them. more
