Overall this is a great place that you can go to for anything from a romantic dinner to a fun night out with the girls. If your a large group I'd recommend going through Access...

I was visiting my friend in New York and decided to go out to Pranna. The atmosphere is great! The bartender at the bottom section was rude and obnoxious. Really need a class in ...

Romantic place for dinner 2/5/2009

Went to Pranna for the restaurant week and was surprised with how good the food is. We had the drunken noodles and duck curry and for dessert the guava cheesecake. We also ordered a sample of satays which were perfectly cooked with four dipping sauces. It was really fun to eat trying each of the sauce. The cocktails were delicious and my favorite was bali eyes. After dinner we stayed in the lounge and they had a DJ spinning and the place just got mobbed within fourty five minutes. I definately recommend this place. Pros: gorgeous place, great for groups Cons: none more

Cool place for Saturday night out 2/4/2009

Great place for dinner and post-dinner drinks... I celebrated my friend's birthday this past Saturday night and we reserved a table after dinner and stayed until 4AM. It was so great to be able to do it all in one place and not get bored with the scene... I'm actually headed back for another birthday party next weekend. The place is HUGE, but you wouldn't know it from the entrance on Madison Ave. Great addition to the neighborhood and totally worth checking out. Pros: Ambience, Decor, Music more

BAD BAD BAD BARTENDER 1/29/2009

WORST BARTENDER ever working here. I've been in the industry myself for 7 years now and I've never met someone as obnoxious as the shortie, (ERIC is it?) that works here. Been to this place only twice and BOTH times he made me want to throw my drink in his face. Whats becoming of customer service? This one here is just giving a bad rep for the rest of us. Don't waste your money. Pros: the satays Cons: the man making your drinks more

Highly recommended 1/27/2009

Beautiful Place and Perfect Vibe 11/16/2008

At Pranna you are able to great great food, ambience, drinks and perfect fun night. We had a dinner reservation and they were very busy but our group of five wanted to sit in the satay lounge for cocktails and some small bites. They were very accomodating in letting us have a cocktail and holding our reservation for about twentyfive minutes. After the cocktails and few satays we went to the dining room. We ordered the whole fish, duck curry and the rib eye for two. The steak was like butter and it melted in our mouth, The sides were delicious aswell. The nan bread was garlic, cilanto and thai basil with tomato and lentil chutneys. They kept on asking us if we wanted more and it was absolutely addictive. We also had the Tom kha soup which was very good as well. We also ordered the Pranna bakery with rose water cream donuts, walnut brownies, coconut macaroons, choc chip macadamia cookies and spiced butter cake. It came with two dipping sauces which were very good. Overall Pranna was a great experience and the prices were very affordable. After dinner we stayed at the bar for some after dinner cocktails and the place was rocking. Great addition to the area. Pros: Great addition to the neighbrhood more

Small portions for price, inattentive service, trying to be a "club" 11/16/2008

Over-aggressive hostess (5 of them!) greet you at the door and escort you through the restaurant while having to repeat themselves > 3 times if they can take your coat. The music is so loud when you first walk in that I actually thought I was in the wrong place. Service was, well, horrendous. Our waiter took our order right away then we waited a good 45 minutes for our apps to arrive. Food is surprisingly good - but, the portions are tiny considering price. Don't think i'll be returning. Pros: Close to my apartment Cons: Trying to be a "club," small portions, spotty service more

Great Vibe, Music and Food 11/15/2008

Went to Pranna tonight and place was absolutely hopping. Great Music along with flavorful cuisine and amazing vibe. Started with the satay bar. We decided to seat at the satay bar and watch the chefs prepare the satays. Later we move into the dining which was absolutely gorgeous. We ordered the duck, prawns. lambchps and steak. Ordered two bottles of wine which were paired perfectly with th food. Had cocktails earlier like the butterfly whisper, emerald bay, maekhong and bali eyes. Loved every single cocktail. The satays were perfect with the dipping sauce and my favorite sauce was salty kaffir lime mint. We also ordered dessert like the Pranna bakery and the chcolate souffle. Both AMAZING. We met the owner and she gave a tour of the whole restaurant. She told us thata they were starting lucnh on Monday the 17th. The place is beautifula nd service was quite attentive. We paid totalof $250 for 4 people which I think is quite reasonable for this caliber of a restaurant. I will definately be back. They also a DJ playing so we stayed for after dinner drinks and dessert in the satay lounge. Pros: Great Place, Comfortable and Amazing Food more

Great look, uneven food, attentive service, small portions for the price 11/15/2008

just visited this restaurant. Beautiful place with a cool vibe, interesting menu and the allure of a dining adventure. Presentation of food was awesome. Based on many of the portion sizes, this place will be more expensive than your initial impression believes it would be. Dishes were sometimes great and sometimes forgetable. We had the chicken rice and the mango rice. Neither of them impressed me since the rice was oily and flavor was somewhat bland. We had a sharing platter of sate. The shrimp in bacon and the swordfish were outstanding. The leaf wrapped beef with peanuts was either liked or disliked depending on who tried it. The sate came with interesting dipping sauces. The scallop apetizer was nice. The lobster infused noodle appetizer was ok, but did not impress. The shared steak was wow - Like butter. Loved it. The whole fish was delish. The stir fried chicken with ginger was expensive and nothing special. The fried chicken was ala KFC but well prepared. Expensive for KFC style chicken with a salad on the side. The dessert menu was funky. I had a taste of the sorbet's which were nice (very small portion for the price) and we had the MANGO AND PAPAYA CARPACCIO which was really interesting with pomegranite. Very offbeat but could you have been more generous witthe serving? Overall, nice night out, moments of brilliance and great presentation. Service was attentive. Some of the dishes work really well, others, are overpriced average concoction with a cool spin in the way they are served. I think most would enjoy the food here, but it is not inexpensive when you consider the portion sizes and the amount of dishes needed to create a satisfying meal Pros: Great vibe, service Cons: Some dishes showed greatness and others were forgettable more

Spectacular space, impeccable cuisine! 11/10/2008

We live across the street from this restaurant so we were eagerly anticipating our first dinner there. By all accounts, it far exceeded our expectations. You can see from the photos how spectacular the space is, but you can only develop a full appreciation for the space by entering it. The architecture, the lighting and the materials are all truly exceptional. The waitress told us everything was custom-made for this restaurant, including the menus, the chairs, and the satay dishes. The food was impeccable - the best scallops we had ever eaten! They melted in our mouths. The lamb satay was exquisite, and came with four unique dipping sauces. The mint-kaffir lime sauce was by far the best. Our waitress suggested the duck, which my friend ordered, and said it was the best duck he had ever had. I had the cumin-crusted hangar steak which was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and came with the best sweet potatoe fries I've ever had. But the best part was the hazelnut souffle for dessert - absolutely amazing!!! And we couldn't believe how reasonably-priced the food was. Our food bill was just over $100 for two. The only drawback was the music, which was a bit loud. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

Gorgeous Space and Atmosphere 11/9/2008

Went to Pranna last might with 10 friends. We had some satay's in the satay lounge and headed to dinner im the dining room. We had a great time in the lounge and expected the dinner to be a little formal. We were very impressed to have extremely professional service with a friendly touch. The dining room is beautiful with the crystal chandeliers and candles on the fabric wall.. Our server was very knowledgeable and suggested the right dishes for our party. Everything is shareable if you want it to be. The portions are ample. We enjoyed the khao soy noodles and the rib eye steak with delicious sides. The steak was cooked perfectly. We also had the Lamb Chops with the Massaman Curry and the Duck. We had couple of vegetarians so they ordered the Paneer and the Tofu. The flavors were perfect and we enjoyed everything. Even the dessert was delicious. I never expect dessert to be good at a asian restaurant but Pranna proved me wrong. We ordered the bakery and the souffle with a chocolate shot. It was divine. Loved every bit of it. They also had a live DJ spinning and music was really very good. I am definately coming a back to Pranna. Pros: Amazing space for groups as well as couples, great cocktails and satays Cons: None more

Corporate Function 11/6/2008

Had dinner with co-workers in one of the private rooms last night. Didn't think I'd like this type of food, but everything was perfect. A lot of flavor and great presentation. Staff was very attentive. more

AMAZING 11/2/2008

A friend of mine invited me to the grand opening party on Wednesday night... So awesome. Free-flowing champagne, spicy satays, and plenty of space to move around. There must have been about a 1000 people there... I went back last night with my boyfriend so that we could checl out the dining room. Love that they are open until 4AM. This place is SO what this neighborhood needs. Great service + ambience at a reasonable price. Pros: Pricing, Cocktails, Complimentary Naan, Romantic more

BEST NEW RESTAURANT 10/31/2008

Went to Pranna with a huge group of friends. Sat in the satay lounge and ordered the cocktails and food from their tapas style menu. The satay sampler for eight was ample food for all of us along with some small bites and some spicy delicious cashews. Had three drinks each and still ended up spending about $50 per head. So reasonable. I am definately going their again. The atmosphere was very appropriate and the decor was phenomenal. The flat bread served with the dipping sauces was so fresh and delicious. We all enjoyed Pranna very much. more

Best Satays 10/25/2008

Loved Pranna. I have been there several times and enjoyed everytime. The small bites and satay are affordable options but the dining room is gorgeous. I had the panner and my boyfriend had the lamb. It was well seasoned and extremely delicious. The emerald bay cocktail had green tea and it was well balanced.. The wine list is all organic and not intimidating at all. Will keep going back. more

Editorial
  • Pranna is an enormous 15,000 square-foot space with an attractive, bright interior and two dining rooms, two bars, an open kitchen and a gigantic basement lounge. Talk about optimism! But the crowds have been coming, albeit perhaps more for the bar scene than the food. The kitchen is helmed by chef Chai Trivedi, who has developed a creative menu of Southeast Asian dishes like Vietnamese peanut rice flats, Thai chicken with cashews and assorted satays. There’s also the usual Asian-inflected cocktail program, too. So, does New York need another big-box Asian restaurant? Pranna hopes we do.
